SAD TO SEE PIRACY STARTING UP AGAIN - SwT 138 - VISITING TABOGA FIXING THINGS IN AN EXOTIC LOCATION
In this episode we share some hints about anchoring in Panama, our experience at the Pacific side and even take you with us to Isla Taboga. Unfortunately there have recently been some brutal encounters between sailors and pirates in Panama again. Already to episodes outside Las Perlas and one at the Caribbean side. This is very sad and hopefully the authorities of Panama once again put focus on this and have it ended before it escalates to levels like three years ago. As normal there is always something to fix on a sailboat and the saying sailing is fixing things in exotic locations have never been more spot on. Isla Taboga is a positive surprise just outside Panama City, and we are waiting a few days to have our parts made for an upgrade at the auto pilot setup. Our goal is to make everything ready for our long passage and then use some days to just relax and rest before we start the longest sail ever.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever we have time for it. I used to sail singlehanded and occasionally have sailing friends onboard. But now the permanent crew aboard BE FREE is including Gee from Holland. We are now exploring the pacific ocean.
Even though this is season 5 on youtube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.
PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS!
I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things that might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore.

Measure TWICE- cutting/sawing/drilling ONCE seems to be valid also for electrical stuff 🤔 Thnx for explicit showing! Without mistakes there is no learning 🤷🏽♂️
Yes, cruising is fixing things in exotic or dangerous or remote or freezing or hot as a furnace locations..... André in Sydney
It was a relief to learn that their dog was found and returned days after the boarding and robbery. Be safe. Be Free. Happy Easter 🐇
😅 No only did you fail to test the fan but you also cut the cables so close to the fan body that it must have made it virtually impossible to re-solder the wires back on. Lessons learned.
Nice fix, and you always learn not from your successes but from your failures. Happy sailing and look forward to seeing the Pacific with you guys. Thanks for letting us tag along. John
Whoops! When you know what you're doing but you don't do it all the time it's easy to get a step ahead of yourself. Glad the ice maker repair worked out in the end. Cheers!
👌Well young fella....has me stuffed how you fall head first into a situation, and later, with some perseverance manage to come up with a huge beaming smile and explain what was or wasn't..Now that is all able now to be shared with other cruisers...I salute you 👍 P.S. A hint please as how to attract beautiful ladies, She is a champion and blends nicely as crew. Cheers.
Little sailor tip in sketchy area don’t fly a flag it makes you a target.

Good fix on the ice maker, Thomas!👍👍
Glad you enjoyed Taboga. I hope you didn't completely avoid the Las Perlas. Isla Mogo-Mogo is a gem. (Put a warning on your wire cutter!;)

Ahoy Thomas.... just got Seria back in the water and looking at other sailors videos. Hopefully all is well with you. Looking forward to seeing more videos when you arrive in your next port. I'm assuming you are doing a big crossing in Pacific water.
I can clearly see that my thirty year old stating still is valid when it comes to relationships containing some sort of mutual attraction: 1+1=11 What an amazing resource for almost anything on a sailboat⛵️ Keep it up you two! 👍🏽
Nice too see bought of you enjoying! Stay safe and healthy. Life is good 😎
Great episode! Stay safe Be Free crew!👍👍
Love your video's Thomas. Please keep them coming. Greetings from that Old Jarhead in WNC
LOVE your engineering thoughts and graphic explanations on repositioning the rudder hydraulics! Here also fixing stuff in less tropical more archipelagic (isthataword?) settings fixing cayaks, saildinghy, making cinnamon buns and reading PåskeKrim 😉☕️ thanks for fixingstuff-inspiration and as always good vibes, Gee is such a treasure, nice new(ish) intro btw! Sorryvif I’m boring y’all with all the superlatives, keep up the good work/play! Cheers! 💪😀🤙☕️
Stay safe!! Cheers!!

Hope your tweek for the steering works well🤞🏽

Can ya somehow find room to reinstall yer Washing Machine😜 Continue to Stay Safe and Enjoy😎
Supert at du lykkes med feilsøking og reparasjonsjobbene dine(hilsen elektriker fra Trondheim). And as always cheers/skål😎🍻
Thomas glad to see you found a nice spot to park that allows you to both relax and get some repairs done as well. Ice makers as a general rule are high maintenance appliances I have found, glad you were able to get yours back up and working. Were you able to get your new auto pilot parts installed and working as you had hoped? Cheers Thomas & Gee🍻
Better to also see a video of the actual autopilot setup so that one can assess the geometry and components. Some of your followers are professional engineers and can give you some feedback.
If this sailing stuff don't work out, you can always open an appliance repair shop. I have a feeling you'd do well.. To bad about the robberys down there, seems to be the way of the world right now. Be free & be safe..
Watch out for those thin beer cans containers
Thomas I was curious, If someone steal your dinghy, How would you get back to the boat?
@philgray1023

Best have the dirtiest ugly dinghy with a fluorescent free motor and lots of reflective tape. It will still be there.
Ha Robby is the second hardest working crew member only second to Mr Auto pilot..
Thomas, have you considered adding wheels to your dinghy for situations like this?
to your channel waves :)
"Fixing things in exotic locations" lol yes
Not sure that ice water was safe to drink 😂
No wonder government of Pnima is so upset!

No post in a long time! Have they been a victim of piracy! I sent a message on Patreon, no reply. I'm Concerned. AIS position data on Vesselfinder use to be within minutes for Be Free. Now the last AIS signal was April 27th. Does anyone have any knowledge of Thomas and Gee? Are they alright?😢
Thomas When are you going to make some new videos? We haven’t had one for ages!!😲🙏🤞👍🥰🏴
Forgive the nudge. Are you ok? I know you have a life to live (and not just to entertain us!) but this is an uncharacteristically long gap in transmission so I thought I'd check in! I hope that the reason for radio silence is that you're living your best life! :)
Thomas where are you⁉️
--QUESTION -- For circumnavigation, would you take the new Hallberg Rassy 57 or the new Swan 58?
