Sacramento Kings: NBA The Right Way

Спорт

The Sacramento Kings of the early 2000's were the last truly artistic team in NBA history. This video spotlights that charismatic Kings squad-- one that led the NBA in scoring and played to enthusiastic crowds & standing ovations both at home AND on the road. The league showcased the Kings in numerous ways-- with the maximum number of national television appearances, with a series of special programs on NBC and with games in Japan and China. +pgtfixed Unfortunately, the 1998-2004 Sacramento Kings will be overlooked very often when the NBA talks about the 2014 San Antonio Spurs and the 2015 Golden State Warriors and their version of unselfish team basketball. In my mind, those two teams took the Kings brand of unselfish, team basketball and made it even better with World Championships to go along with it.

@Willie Gordon The Spurs weren't boring in 2014. As for the Warriors, they led the NBA or at least in the top three in assists per game during that span from 2015 to 2019. That's the problem with the Kings. The likes of the 2014 Spurs, the Splash Brother era Golden State Warriors, Showtime Lakers, 1970s New York Knicks under Red Holzman and Red Auerbach's up tempo Boston Celtics are more recognizable with their unselfish, team play because those teams won NBA titles to follow up their exciting brand of basketball. Go ahead and keep defending the Kings. It's not changing the results between 2002 and 2004.

It's just that the NBA added ball movement and perimeter shooting to those styles.

@Eilliw Nodrog What's wrong with draw and kick and backdoor cuts like the international game? That's how Team USA overcame their darkest period between international tournaments in 2002-2006 to win three straight Olympic Gold Medals in 2008, 2012 and 2016 and back-to-back FIBA Basketball World Cups in 2010 and 2014 because they added the FIBA game to their run-and-gun game. Rick Adelman and the Greatest Show on Court era Sacramento Kings between 1999-2004 was very good to watch, but I'll take Red Auerbach's fast break style with the Celtics in their great dynasty between 1957 and 1969, the New York Knicks under Red Holtzman in the 1970s, Showtime L.A. Lakers of the 1980s, the Bulls and Lakers triangle offenses, the Spurs between 2003 and 2014, and the Splash Brother era Golden State Warriors's styles over the Kings every day.

BTW, to say that the Spurs and Warriors didn't face tough competition is a reach. The Spurs and Warriors had to go LeBron James and his teams in the Heat and Cavaliers to win NBA titles where LeBron led those two teams to eight NBA Finals appearances in a row combined from 2011 to 2018.

Watching the NBA was great during this time. Wasn't a fan of the Kings but loved watching them play and the way they played. Been a fan of Jason Williams during his time in HS as I grew up in WV. The Kings actually moved the ball instead of Iso'ing every other trip down the court. They are the reason I had the League Pass from DirecTV early on. Great video BTW.

Also, the 2014-15 Warriors, 2013-14 Spurs and the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls having something that neither the 1998-2004 Sacramento Kings have: a NBA World Championship on their resume.

They had to win either Games 4, 6 and 7 and failed to win either one of them. The 2014 Spurs, 2015 Warriors and 1996 Bulls are considered to be three of the best teams in NBA history because they turned off the distractions like the referees and kept playing basketball in order to win while the Kings are snakebitten because they wasted their chances.

This joesakic91 guy is the best troll I've ever read. That's so sad that it became hilarious to see a guy putting so many comments on the same page saying the same thing. What a psycho. Funny, but yet, a lil bit sad for him. Cause he didn't get the main point of this story: these Kings didn't need to win it all to influence an entire generation and make so much people dream. That's the difference compare to teams like Warriors, Spurs or Lakers; these "championship teams" who needs to win to exist. These Kings might have lost the title, but won what matters the most: the heart of people. Maybe this guy doesn't have one, that's could be the reason he can't get it. I mean, it's especially because they lost that they're the perfect team. Because they should have win, in the exact same way that this world should be beautiful, but isn't. These Kings represent this mixed feeling of melancholy, beauty and purity. They're the basketball soul. They don't have a ring, but forever the crown: they were the beautiful Kings. Of course a ring would have been great, but who cares at the end: their lost were more beautiful than your wins. That's why they kept smiling when playing, cause they knew their joy was more important, pure and real than your titles, and that's why people love them like no others.

+Simon capelli-welter First of all, I'm more of a pest than a troll. Second, there's a reason why people talk about the Warriors in 2015 and the Spurs in 2014 and their magnificent ball movement is because those two teams took a great product the Kings put out during their "Greatest show on court" years from 1998-2004 and made it even better with championships to boot to go along with their ball movement. Finally, you don't have to be a little sad for me because the more you hate, the more the other teams win. I bet the Kings and their fans are still mumbling when the Warriors won it all in 2015 where they said, "that should've been us in 2002."
