These are the best product demos on KZread because they're done with incredible audio and video quality and feature an amazing drummer who plays tastefully, hits with excellent technique, and genuinely is excited about drums and cymbals

    2:55- Look at Nick's face. Pure joy! I love the 18" thin crash in this series so much that recently when looking for a 19" and 20" crash I deiced to go with the HHX Complex Thin Crashes again! I know I won't regret it. Even though Nick said they might not be great for metal, that's what I will be using them for in my band setting!

  • @JakeStaffin

    This is the best cymbal demo I've ever seen. Every cymbal in the new line played in a variety of styles with a variety of different sticks (including ones I use frequently such as brushes and the Steve Smith tala wands), and then a comparison between other similar crash cymbals. I've never been too specific with which brands I like and I play a bunch of brands for drums, hardware, sticks and heads, but Sabian has always been my favorite and only choice for cymbals, and Nick's face at 2:56 just goes to show how good these ones sound. Thanks for making a fantastic video, can't wait to see these cymbals along with the AAX Unbound cymbals at PASIC this year (and maybe see Sweetwater there as well). Also, "butterier" doesn't get autocorrected, so I guess it's a word!!

    That ride reminded me a lot of the HHX Groove Ride with a bit more shimmery wash, and I use that ride in a metal/hard rock setting just fine and it totally stands on it's own next to guiar half stacks and a bass cabinet. It's all in what sound is in your head and finding the cymal that closet matches that.

The 22" Thin Crash is a beast, and probably the best cymbal I've ever played. I've also added the 22" Thin Ride, and 23" Medium Ride, with the former taking on the role of my left crash, while the latter plays the role of a more traditional ride. Sadly though, these two models were not shown in this video.

    I don't like the new logo, but neither do the ancient, anyway. In general I don't like big logos, like Meinl's or Paiste's, but if they have to be there, I prefer some "classier" (imho) font, like Zildjian's. Anyway, it doesn't change the fact that these are great cymbals (like the other brands I mentioned and some others). I wouldn't let the logo to be a factor that drives me to buy or not a cymbal... You can easily remove it yourself, anyway, if that's something that drives your nuts...

    Very nice cymbals !! Maybe I missed it or maybe Nick just didn't mention it, but what thickness/weight are those Complex HHX...??

    Thanks for the inquiry. Yes, those are beautiful cymbals. As they tend to be pretty dark and washy, that typically indicates a thinner cymbal. They do vary a bit, but generally these are thinner and darker cymbals as a line. Let me know if you have other questions that I can help with. @@sweetwater hi, thanks for your reply. Yes, that's what I thought, but I was just wondering if that unleathed bell added some more weight to them and if so, if it was significant. It ain't a concern anyway, they sound gorgeous... I was just curious.

    How would you compare these to the zildjian k sweet line?

  • @sweetwater

    @sweetwater

    Hello, Derek! Both these HHX and the Zildjian K's are more complex and darker compared to Sabian's AA and Zildjian's A lines. Comparing comparable sizes and weights across the two lines though, I find the HHX Complex to be slightly brighter and more cutting compared to the Zildjian Sweets. Thanks for the interest! Thanks for the interest. Check out minute mark 12:10. Nick plays through all of the crashes on the kit. They are from different lines. The furthest left is an 18” HHX Legacy Crash. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com

    i would say they are airy or trashier, buttery is silly lol, metal is a hard thing to describe but they are saturated sounding like grit on clean if that makes sense
