========= The Royal Guard LYRICS =========
From the frozen north they came
Fought for founding father’s claim
It was then, their tale, began
Trace their roots from 16 strong
By the king where they belong
En tid
Av Krig
Wherever he goes, near or far, they are close
For the King of Sweden they lay down their lives
For the Swedish crown they stand
By the king, at his command
500 years for the fatherland
Marching across the belt
Crushing blow at Narva dealt
Livgardet our Royal Guard
Sworn protectors of the throne
Royal doctrine set in stone
For the crown, you shall give your life
By traditions from the past
Swedish soldiers stand steadfast
I frid
Och i strid
And if one should fall, yet another, heeds the call
For king and for country they lay down their lives
För Sverige i tiden
Dit konungen går
De gör vad som synes omöjligt, vad än framtiden spår
Still for the crown they stand
By the king, at his command
500 years for the fatherland
Marching across the belt
Crushing blow at Narva dealt
Livgardet our Royal Guard

I feel as though delivering the lines in Swedish have quite a significance to the story. The song (like Carolus Rex as an album) I think evokes a stronger emotion in the native tongue. It sounds great in English, the video is kickass... but I think there was an artistic choice to include Swedish in the English version outside of just forcing the language on people.

@@the_retag Yes, under the rule of the CCP, this place is even crazier and more deformed than Germany in 1933-1945. Every day socialist and fascist propaganda are constantly being broadcasted loudly on the campus. I was surrounded by rubbish songs praising the communist cult. I finally had this opportunity to play Sabaton’s songs to cleanse my ears that were hurt by the red virus. PS: I really want those white-left college students in the United States to experience this hellish nightmare life, and see if they continue to have silly ignorant fantasies about Marxism and socialism. What I hate most is communist cults and fake liberals. Without the music of sabaton and some other western bands, I would really be brainwashed and promoted to become mentally ill. Those stupid American/European fake liberals should come to China and North Korea to experience the evil iron curtain of real cultural Marxism and socialism. It's really disgusting brother here. Even if I send these messages to you, I have to bear the risk of being arrested by the PRC cyber police, so the more I do this, the more I respect cultural workers who can maintain traditional values in the Western world. Because this world is ruined by left culture boxers

@@Scorchxray In fact, in mainland China and Iran, young people prefer/receptive to Western cultural works. Europe and the United States are places with excellent cultural traditions.but unfortunately we are under the rule of the CCP and Mahaney. It is difficult for many people to access excellent Western cultural works. Often these cultural works will be considered by our evil communist totalitarian government as a cultural weapon of Western imperialism, and they are often prohibited from contacting them. Yes, our government is even afraid of songs! They are afraid of everything that is detrimental to their totalitarian rule and communist cult cultural system. After I played the song by sabaton that day, I was even warned by the leaders of our school that I would not be allowed to play this kind of Western free cultural works in the future, otherwise I would be dropped out of school. I really don’t understand why there are still people in American universities who have good feelings and fantasies about the evil things like the cultural Marxist ecosystem. They yearn for such evil totalitarian anti-human culturalism in a free country. . I think they really need to see a doctor

Do note though that the whole fight came about because Charles was kind of a dick. He'd been a guest of the Ottomans for years, having essentially built a Swedish mini-colony around the estate he'd been given to stay in. Sweden was falling into ruin due to his absence, and his sister (who was acting as head of state at the time) sent letters begging Charles to come home, but he refused. The Ottoman sultan also thought he'd overstayed his welcome, so he told Charles to go home, but Charles refused. After repeated refusals like this, the sultan eventually had enough and decided to throw him out by force.

Some context on why they're fighting some Turks; After the decisive Battle of Poltava, the King with a small entourage went south to the Ottoman Empire, where he set up camp at Bender with some 1,000 soldiers, basically a refugee at this point. The Ottomans payed tributes to the King as he was really revered as this great undefeatable general, and ask him to leave and return to Sweden. But the King insist that he wants to stay (so that the Ottomans would attack the Russians). After some time, the Ottomans had enough use force to drive him out. A battle ensued, the Swedish were outnumbered and outgunned but they held out against the Ottomans. Only then, the King agreed to leave for his homeland.

@@zoom5024 I don't want to be "that guy", but it was just the claim of some historians that Swedes only fought with 40 men against 10.000 soldiers. According to reliable sources, Swedes had 1.000 men (more or less) and combined Ottoman Jannisarries and local inhabitants of Bender reached 10.000 when skirmish happened. Of course they were outnumbered, but 10.000 to 40 (or 10-20 as you mentioned), is probably an exaggeration.

@@matthewbencarlson Well the 10K obviously didnt go into the fortress, it was a scare tactic. They would rather that the king surrendered. And no he didnt have 1000 soldiers, he had 1000 people with him when he went to bender that includes women, children, priests, officials etc. And he had roughly 200-300 Karoleans with him, but most surrendered because they saw the Janitsars as their friends, and thought the king had went mad. There were roughly 20-50 Karoleans inside the "kings-castle" who defended it with the king.

I know some commenters may be tempted to say, "They lost; why be triumphant about it?" It was all about the Livgardet being true to their oaths, which they certainly were. The video shows our Sabaton stand-ins looking out at a veritable horde of Ottomans before squaring up and going right to it. Devotion to duty is not a bad thing and is in fact a military virtue in itself. If I might be pardoned referring to another military, the Foreign Legion makes a great deal out of Camerone, one of the classic shaftings they've had in their history and a far more comprehensive decimation of stubborn soldiers by a superior force. Go look it up.

After the defeat of Poltava, Carolus retreated to the Ottoman Empire seeking sanctuary from Russian forces. In the end, after Carolus made demands that the Sultan saw as too demanding, the sultan sent soldiers to capture or kill Carolus. These men, the Livgardet, did all they could to save their king. Distinguishing themeselves that day as they fought a force of 8,000-14,000 Ottoman soldiers. Alongside 40 Swedish soldiers, the Livgardet slew 200-433 Ottoman soldiers and Axel Erik Roos in particular saved the king three times that day. Ultimately the king would be captured but not after the building the defenders used was set on fire. Though the king was ultimately captured, the Livgardet will always be known as the most distinguished royal guard in history.

After the Battle of Poltava, in a small village from Bender at the very frontier of the Ottoman Empire now Republic of Moldavia - a small detachment of Ottoman janissaries came to get rid of that problematic Swedish king who dared to rule his kingdom from the other side of the continent through letters and riding couriers. Thus the nearly last stand of his guards. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skirmish_at_Bender?wprov=sfti1
