A song about the Battle of Poltava, the largest battle of the Northern War between Russian troops under the command of Peter I and the Swedish army of Charles XII. The crushing defeat of the Swedish army put an end to the domination of Sweden as one of the leading military power in Europe.

@Ivan Tolj "I have resolved never to start an unjust war, but never to end a legitimate one except by defeating my enemies" The thing is, there are no objective criteria to what a just or unjust war is. The Crusades were just in our eyes, the Muslims would disagree strongly, and the Chinese probably don't give a fuck. So, what was just for Charles and whether he kept his word was/is rather subjective, don't you think?

TymTym Doubtful that victory at Poltava would have changed much. Army of the swedes was half dead from hunger, it had already lost more than half of its force, and if Russians had lost at poltava, they would have further retreated using the scorched land tactic, forcing King carolus to pull back homewards. If Carolus hadnt lost his army at Poltava, it would have been lost elsewhere most likely.

In this battle, a little more than 300 years ago a brave young cavalry lieutenant lost his life. He had fought many battles from prussia to the ukraine, earning medals and gaining ranks, just to loose his life in his and Swedens greatest defeat. Before he left the motherland and went to war he married and he had a son. This tale probably mean nothing to you. But for me its everything. He is the reason why im on this planet. After the defeat he have build-up a modern army and kicked your asses and buried your imperial ambitions once and and forever. - My dear brother, Corulus X||, you might consider yourself the Alexander, but you won't find Darius in me! The charge was known as Von Bredow's Death Ride. This took place at the Battle of Mars-la-Tour in 1870, out of the 800 that charged, only 420 made it back. This was almost 20 years after the Light Brigade's.

On July 8, 313 years ago, in the battle of Poltava, Peter I completely defeated the troops of the Swedish king Charles XII. The main part of the fleeing Swedish army was captured on the banks of the Dnieper by Prince Menshikov - 18,367 people. As a result, Sweden lost 49 best regiments in three days. The captured Swedes remained in Russia for many years. Many joined the Russian army on condition not to use them in the war with Sweden, a whole regiment of Swedish cuirassiers served in the Kuban. The officers discharged their wives from Sweden. Soldiers were stationed all over Russia and by the end of the Northern War, many of them were already married, converted to Orthodoxy. After the signing of the Peace of Nishtadt, no more than 5 thousand former soldiers of the army of Charles XII returned to Sweden. 13 thousand remained to live and serve in Russia.

They fucked with us. A treacherous coalition of every one of Sweden's neighboring countries decided that it was not dishonorable enough to attack if they didn't wait until a 15 year inexperienced king had taken the throne. In every one of our battles against Russia we were numerically inferior, still we crushed them every time because we had braver soldiers who didn't flee like the Rus. And then there is Poltava where a 40 000 army of Russians met the army of 16 000 caroleans who were battle weary after 9 long years of war and the king was too sick to lead. I mean, such an unbelievable win for Russia
