it's incredibly rare to find women interested in genuine classic cars - definitely not found anyone like this here in Australia. But being a Saab it's a proper classic.

So I was wondering if you were worried about any sparking from the tools that might ignite the fuel vapor? I was taught to use brass tools for something like that because it wouldn't cause a spark.

As a women who does a lot of basic mechanical work on my older vehicles, I would've appreciated some steps shown, that were skipped, in the video. Things like; the tools needed and their sizes, safety issues, where the screw is that holds the strap in place, the placement of the two locking washers, on both ends of the fuel pump and last, how to tighten the fuel filter. I did my homework prior to watching the video but I still think if you want to put out a video on how to change a fuel filter you should include All the relevant information. That being said, I did appreciate the information the video did have.

Nice to see you're doing it yourself, but it looks like you forgot the washers on the filter side. Also, always check that there is no leak when the engine is running.

There are normally banjo bolt washers on either side of the banjo bolt fitting (2 on the inlet and 2 on the outlet of the fuel filter). The video looked like maybe the inner washers had been lost. This could be a safety issue as some point, if you get fuel (high pressure) spraying from you fuel filter. A quick check under there will tell you for sure. Cost of the washers are pennies. Great job BTW!

Thanks Mogman 150! The new filter came with the banjo bolt washers so I added them on each side. They did come with four, two copper and two aluminum (assuming). I only used one on each side, should I have used both?

Duchess DIY The banjo fitting is sandwiched between the washers (one on both sides of the fitting). The washer is what is doing the sealing. Does this make sense?

anything past about 2001 uses parts shared with vauxhall but from my experience saabs are much more reliable and better build quality, especially the 95. Engines can do +200k if properly serviced

That setup with a block doesn't look very safe though. If you're going to do more work under the car I'd suggest getting at least a slightly safer solution. Cars are heavy and will crush you, it's quite a common accident. Especially when working alone safety is very important.

With only 150k miles it can still go quite a bit longer. Most Saabs will run to close to 250k miles (400k km) without much trouble, if properly maintained. I'm on my fourth Saab and all have reached at least 350k km (=220k miles). Most are done in by rust to the body work, not mechanical failure.

+Duchess DIY I have had 5 Saab's and still have my 6th, a 9000 Anniversary model. Other than this car all others had done 200+ miles and running well. General Motors won no points for the closure of Saab. Where is SEV? Swedish Electric Vehicle phoenix from formerly SAAB. (NEVS, but that's not a good marketing name is it?)? I want to see the SEV PowerStorm Coupe.....

If you are replacing the fuel pump make sure to buy the tool for the ring and prepare the opening by placing plastic on the carpet and duct tape around the hole this helps prevent gas on the carpet. As long as you align the pump correctly you will have no issues like I did. I have 240k on my 9-5 and I will keep it for another 240k. Post your video on changing the fuel pump. Keep SAAB alive. You are an excellent narrator and editor keep up the great work!!!
