This step by step tutorial guided me through the whole process, which was a success thanks to you! Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I didn't have a torx key. If anyone is considering this, make sure you have a T20 torx key as shown in the video - that back screw holding the motor on is super-hard to reach without it!

Thank you for this- you saved me a chunk of change and I'm very grateful you took the time to do this. What amazes me about this is how you managed to film with perfect camera angles and perfect lighting in a very dark and small space. Kudos to you- it's really well done. It was driving me mad because i thought i had a stone stuck in the tyre when i first heard it, but it kept happening at the same place every day. Eventually figured out it was happening when i switched off recirculation. Your video has been very helpful and i'm going to attempt to repair this myself.

Awesome video, Just like the wordless workshop! I bought a new one. Only $82 bucks, made in Germany, so...I will install the new one, and fix the old one as a spare! Thanks, for the video! I had no idea that it only turned 1/4 turn. That leaves a lot of gear to work with! I do have Amsoil synthetic spray grease, and will use it. Also, I really need to get a Tech II. I do have a security fault, and use the hard key to bypass it. Kudos!

Thanks a lot for your video. My car had this problem for years and I was too afraid to dive deep in the dashboard to replace what was needed to be replaced. Thanks to you, I realized it was only some screws and nothing too difficult (except that screw in the back that is painful to access). There was teeth broken on several cogs in the mecanism. I ended up replacing the whole motor with a recycled one from neobrothers and it works as good as new.

I finally got around to doing this today (a year on I know!). A word of warning to anyone with a right hand drive car. Removing this motor is a pig of a job. The screws holding the unit in place are in different positions from the video (Front one is on the bottom and rear one is on the top). Because of the location of the rear one, it's extremely difficult to remove, very footery and access is difficult. It is doable, but be prepared to set a fair bit of time aside for removal. The best way I found was, once you have the screw slackened off enough, pull the unit away from the motor to release the white plastic arm and try to push upward from the front. This will hopefully move it out the way and access to the screw will be a bit easier. I've yet to refit mine, but I suspect that will be just as hard.

I have a 2000 saab 9-3 Se, my heater blower stop out the blue no noise ever, good fuse.. it stop working once 2 weeks ago remove wipers and all plastic clean out leaves dirt filter started car nothing spun the fan just barely and it started back perfect then it done it tonight tried same method nothing this time... Need advice on the steps to start.

Hi, I followed the instructions and turn the main gear little more than 1/4 turn. However, it makes the clicking noise after the level fully turn. It seems like the motor doesn't know when to stop.

The white reduction gear had lost teeth on mine, it would be great if we could buy these plastic gears!! I've seen one cog to buy at £11 but I can't wait so I'm trying JB weld and file in 2 new teeth- didnt work! Great video by the way those out of site screws are a bitchh

Thanks for an excellent tutorial. One question, how loud was the clicking before repair. I have a 2007 9-3 and do hear a noise but am no sure if it is the clicking or something else coming from behind the glove box.

JE Hayes it is loud, turn on and off the recirculation a couple of time waiting in between few seconds, if it clicks thats it then

The motor on the phase 1 is a bit different but the tutorial is great! Just one question, the position that the motor is on your video, lets the outside air into the car, rigth?

I bought a very cheap recirculation motor off ebay for a vauxhall tigra and the internal white cogs were exactly the same for my saab93- swopped them over and clicking gone! The saab motors people are charging a lot second hand because of this known issue.

Great video. I changed my fan motor this week so i know exactly where this is, though fiddly it looks easy enough. I think your working on a left handed car, is that correct ?.

MrRozli silicon grease, u can use any synthetic grease

Hi. I found a motor that dont turn When i change the air diraction (its the ventilation above the stereo that the motor controls), so i replaced it. But it still not moving. And tips what to check, i Have the motor removed but connected right now so it is easy to test. Maby i need tech 2 to calibrate the new motor? It is a saab 93 2006 (1,8T).

No need for tech2 .. u can try to hold both AUTO+RECIRC buttons for few seconds while the engine running, that should initiate calibration and move all motors .. if it doesnt move, then either the new motor is bad or the ACC panel is faulty

Hey I am trying to remove everything to do my evaporator. How do u remove the electrical connector for the recirc motor so easily? I cannot figure out how to remove it...

Push the connector in first, squeeze the tap ( maybe by a screw driver) then pull the connector back

Is this why the heater only blows cold air on the passenger side?

No, u probably only have a low charge of gas .. so check for leaks and re-gas

will this effect my AC because its not blowing cold air

It can a little bit reduce its performance in extreme hot conditions

well... unfortunately both the biggest and the second biggest cogs are damaged.... junk yard time... unless there are cog kits for the "Valeo Type-1 11V 006972T"

I used to own a shop so have a mechanical background, but for those who are less mechanically inclined, some commentary is in order. I was tempted to pirate your video and add a narration track and upload it.

If you look at my later videos, i improved little by little, my latest videos have narrations and better quality, when i started and since I’m not a native english speaker i was afraid that people will not understand my accent, but did some demos in-front of some friends and they assured me the accent is fine. A couple of things that come to mind... It's a T20 Torx screw for motor. It's far easier to open motor case by inserting small strips of plastic, from perhaps a cut up old credit card, under the tabs and then just pulling the case apart. Otherwise it's difficult to disengage them without risking breakage. Also, and perhaps most critically, this can solve a battery draining/parasitic draw issue. Mine was pulling close to 5 amps with key out. The way I made the connection was that when I hooked my ammeter up and current started flowing, I also heard the clicking in the dash which I only heard periodically under normal driving conditions.
