It definitely helps hearing people’s thoughts to keep the motivation going, I always second guess and always been hard on myself, I like to think it makes me strive for doing better, and hearing people say I’m getting better is very humbling! I’m thoroughly enjoying doing/learning metal fab work though, and even filming/talking to you guys, something which I never thought I’d feel comfortable with lol been a great experience so far, thank you 🍻

Thank you, It was definitely challenging getting this fab work done and I like to think Iv learned a good bit from doing it so hopefully that’ll stay with me now and make life abit easier when doing the other side haha. @Tdevil86 I have a 1986 mk2 GLI, 2002 1.8t, and a 2004 bew turbo diesel. My 1.8t is bagged and cambered, diesel has an upgraded turbo + coilovers and some goodies but it's just a daily driver, and the 1986 is a back burner project I need to start on soon 🤣. I'd like to put the mk2 on a miata for the ultimate rwd conversion

Oh niiice! I’d highly recommend having a go at it! It’s good fun if you have the space to do it, I used good old google to find out wheelbase size for my project before diving in to it, give you a decent idea then of just how much work you might be getting into… Mx5 is a great chassis though, i had a mx5 track day car not so long ago and it was a blast, even only being a 1.6, it handled great!! Chuck a camera down next to you while doing it aswel, there’s always people wanting to watch this kind of stuff so you can potentially earn some money while doing aswel 👌🏼

You have made some job of that Terry I really enjoy following the progress. Thanks for sharing it with us Terry and please don't leave it as long till the next one lol.

Yeh I couldn’t believe it had almost been 3months since my last video 😳 il do my best to keep it at a steady pace now everything’s calmed down with home and work etc, it’s been nice getting back into it!

Oh nice one man! That must have taken a good while…?! To be honest, I didn’t know much about welding or metal work until going at it with this, I just watched some videos and practiced welding a little bit on scrap, all metal work Iv done Iv literally learned as I go with these videos, sometimes jumping in with both feet is the best way to learn. I’d highly recommend having a go at metal work, it’s great fun!

Just binge watched the whole Audi escort series 😂 the car is going to be one mean build well done bro

Blank the end off. It’s very neat work everywhere else and no one will see it anyway. If Audi didn’t think it needed covering neither should you. Don’t give yourself extra work when you don’t need to. 👍

Patience you certainly have, I’ve got some genuine quarters etc… I originally planned fibreglass and as you know it gets out of control, still cheaper than a escort cos and it won’t be rotten as a lot of them are now 👍

Thanks Phil, I’ll be getting back into this in the new year and hopefully get the shell fully together by summer hopefully 🤞🏻 it would going down the cosworth replica route though, I have other plans for the body styling on this one, my other build will be a cosworth replica though and rwd. Paint wise, I just want to take it right back to a bare blank canvas so it’s all completely fresh

Nitromors is a bit crap now. Last stuff I used was called SynStrip, that seemed pretty decent. I was told after I'd used it that it's a good idea to paint it on, then cover it with a bin bag to seal in the chemicals while it's working, keeps it wet too.

A few people have recommended that now and I have bought some, il give it a go with a section covered up and a section uncovered to see what gives the best result, I’m intrigued now lol

Oh for sure, I can’t wait to have it fully together now, but equally I don’t want the fab work/learning to stop when I get to the nuts and bolts side of the build lol actually really enjoying metal work to be honest

Very nice work mate , clearly youve got the skill and tools to help you even though you dont do it all the time its a brilliant effort. I dont think people realise who do the work themselfs how long just doing a small piece of metal work can take. Keep up the good work. It definitely takes long than you think to do metal work, 100%! It’s rewarding when you see the finished product though which makes up for the hours invested. I’ll check it out later, what 4x4 setup are you using for yours?

@@Tdevil86 escort cosworth setup as the car was originally converted to yb power , it runs all escort wrc suspension , subframes etc and as you probably know cossie tax has gone through the roof. Luckly ive managed to collect alot of parts over the years.

Just paint it on don't skimp and extra on stubborn bits old half inch wood chisel to scrape off

If the old paint is solid, I wouldn’t try to take it all off. Take it all down with 180 and re coat it with high build primer.
