But what you're missing is loyal Samsung people like myself with last year's model will probably get $1,000 trade in credit for the phone so really it's only costing you three or 400 bucks for a brand new phone whereas the pixel you're paying 900 bucks for a new phone that's quite a difference

I would agree with you on this and on the iPhone 14 plus that came out. It seems that the companies are doing these "plus phones" as a cheaper alternative to their top-tier flagship but the problem is you have flagship phones like the pixel 7 pro who are at the same price point but give you the top-tier flagship. I think all manufacturers including Google should give us a top-tier phone in different sizes and call it a day.

I have the S23 Plus and I don't agree on many points. I personally don't care about the display resolution. I'd keep it on FHD and even 60Hz. I'd hate the curved display (and the super glossy shiny body) on the Pixel 7 Pro and it's a little too big for me. Whereas 6.1" is too small. I snatched it with double storage (512GB for the price of 256GB) and Samsung actually provides more firmware updates right now than the Pixel 7 will get - not as if I'd keep the phone for 5 years anyway. There are small limitations too here, as we don't get 5G with the Pixel - which is no dealbreaker but still. The battery difference is not significant but the Pixel 7 Pro charges even slower than the S23+. The price is the only thing I may consider even though the difference is less here. However, I still get tempted from time to time if I should return the Galaxy S23+ and get a Pixel 7 Pro.

Man, you have helped me! I've been struggling to decide and holding off till the unpacked event. I have the S21 ultra. It has some connectivity problems. I really don't want the Note s pen. If I drop to the non ultra, no QHD which is a problem for what you pay. IDK, I have a 3 year old Samsung watch. I can let it go for something else. Also earbuds pro2 which would work fine on Pixel. I might do it tonight and get the Pixel 7pro.

It's still tough since I know Samsung always offers good trade in value so I'd likely pay nothing, but the points you made don't sit well with me. Pixel seriously needs to bring back physical fingerprint sensor IMO. I hate on screen fingerprint sensors. One reason why I skipped 6 and 7 even with the price cuts.... I have used the OG pixel, pixel 2xl and 3 xl..... And loved it! Amen. The Pixel 7 Pro fp reader is inferior to the Samsung fp reader. The Pixel would have created a better user experience by using the "old school" capacitive fp reader. As it stands I rely on Google's superior face unlock (superior for being only camera-based), but when it gets dark unlocking the Pixel can become a hassle. As the single user experience that 99% of us use every time we touch our phone, unlock is critically important. Using a cheap under-screen sensor was the wrong move. Google did it purely because they believe consumers would not perceive their flagship as legitimate without it. So here we are, stuck with a marginal under-screen fp reader.

I actually wanted something that was shaped and size of the plus, but held off on purchasing the 22 + because of the lack luster specs and reviews on the device based on the thousand dollar mark and up. I was hoping the 23 was going to be better especially given the bad reviews in a lot of comparisons. I figured Samsung would step up. Nope. That launch was a yawner. So, since Samsung didn’t want to make a phone for someone like me, well, pixel did. So, I have a new 7 Pro coming to me. Then, I saw a side-by-side comparison, while they were doing a speed test. The Samsung plus screen isn’t even remotely as good as the pixel 7. pro. The differences are stupefying. I’m so glad I made the right decision.

It is about time that Samsung should ditch its plus series phones and take a page out of Google's playbook and have a regular model and a Pro model (Ultra) of smartphones and an A series (Fan edition) smartphone in their line up However Google should take a page from Samsung's playbook and offer four years of OS support and five years of security patches, rather than the three years of OS support and five years of security patches. The only reason to justify their higher prices would be the longer support and not hose the customer with a watered-down version of their Ultra and charge customers a premium price for a mid tier phone!! Trying to decide if I want the 7 Pro or iphone 14 Pro. I've have both android and iOS phones. Mostly android. I currently have a one plus 7 Pro. The only thing that I don't like about the Pixel is it only gets 3 years of OS updates. With Apple you may get 6 or 7 years. I hate having to spend close to $1k every 2 to 3 years. What do y'all think?

  • @uFlock

Pixel gets 3 guaranteed android upgrades (so you will get android 13 out of the box and then 14, 15 and 16) and then 2 more years of security updates on top of that, so 5 years guaranteed updates, doesn't mean you can't get more updates as well. So it is obviously not as good iPhone in terms of software updates it's getting close. If you take into account that most other android flagships don't get as many updates in 5 years you will still run more modern version of android than most other android phones anyway. Having said that if your main concern is software support longevity then you can't beat an iPhone at the moment.

But with the Pixel, just press the shutter button and boom - a very high quality image is in the can. Done. And it also looks great on a large screen on the desktop. Samsung is clearly behind Google with its software. If they haven't caught up with the S23+ or S23U, even the SD8 G2 won't help. As an Ultra user, I can save money and go for the Google, or try something completely different and go for the Vivo X90 Pro+. Oh yes Samsung: I don't want a Note, but an Ultra.

I'm a Google pixel 7 pro owner and I do have to throw in a word of caution. The Google pixel 7 pro just does not do some processing as well as the Samsung series phones. Although the last Samsung they had was the Note 9 but I can tell you as a full-time ride. Sure driver when running my ride share apps. This phone runs incredibly warm. My Note 9 would never get more than 7° above ambient temperature even when charging and the LG Velvet. That's the Google pixel 7 pro is replacing. Would only get about 5° above ambient even when charging the Google pixel 7 pro. However, when I'm running my ride share app with my mileage tracking app running in the background which all three devices were running the same setup. Same mileage tracking app. Same ride. Sure apps. The Google pixel 7 pro never runs anything less than 7° hotter than ambient temperature. And if you're navigating to pick up a passenger or drop a passenger off, it will regularly run between 15 and even 20° above ambient temperature and when it is plugged in charging. Since I do not charge my phones to 100% and let them sit there, it will get up to 25° above ambient temperature. Since I started measuring the temperature of the google pixel 7 pro, it's never exceeded 100° f but on that very first day I used it and I would touch the sides. When I was out working doing rideshare, it felt so much hotter over ambient temperature that it was painful to touch the few days I used it before that though it seemed like a great phone. Great battery life. Great processing. Great! Everything now. Keep in mind straight out of the box. I did turn the display up to 120 Hertz from the factory 60 Hertz that it's set at and I also turned the resolution up from the factory 1080 to 1440. So those are two things that are playing in as a factor to why the phone runs so hot. But keep in mind that when I retired the note 9 from doing this job, it still lasted longer on a single charge from a certain low state of charge to a certain high state of charge that I would charge it to. Then the Google pixel 7 pro does for doing the exact same work. It's just when you're running a ride share app. The phone wasn't necessarily meant to have enough proper processing sent to that type of task. So it's something that is pushing all of the side processors really hard because the main processor is a video processor that is good with data and the secondary master processor is designed to work well with the cameras for editing and taking high resolution photos. Anything? That's way outside of the scope of that stuff. This phone might get a little bit hot but the phone mount that I have in my car almost completely covers the back of my phone and only a few millimeters are sticking out to either side to actually allow air to get to the back of my phone and for cooling. Except for the fact that the camera shelf does push the actual body of the phone away a little bit to give that little bit of extra cooling, but in the same phone mount in the same car. This is the phone out of those three phones that I mentioned that performs the worst. As far as how hot does it get so keep that in mind. And I haven't tried running my phone for doing ride share yet with turning the refresh rate down to 120 and the resolution down to 1080 and that could help to reduce processing power which would probably help to reduce heat and extend my battery life more because it runs so hot. I'm on the fence about paying my carrier, the $50 restocking fee and getting a Samsung s22 series phone. I liked my Note 9 so I may go with the ultra but that's the only one that has a good battery life of the Samsung phones anymore. It's also the only one that has the same size battery as the pixel 7 pro stand by time on the pixel 7 pro. If you just let the phone sit there and you don't do anything with it and you're not getting texts and notifications can be over 2 days. I haven't actually left it sitting there long enough to do that but 4 hours of sitting there going into my phone and then going into battery to see how long it predicts and I'm seeing upwards of 2 days 16 hours predicted. On the very few occasions I charge the phone up to 100% and then do nothing and let it sit there.

Sadly influencers and enthusiast asked for this, now look at us, I'm just hoping samsung doesn't ccontinue to listen cause we're headed for elementary animations in favor of robust software, be careful what you wish for, hopefully we can get the 1440p back, the plus will never get the flagship cameras and probably doesn't need them but the res it needs, Sammy knows the note consumer is most important, the fold is great but they have a couple of years before it's the go to. Plus needs to be 899 w1440p or 799 without. Keep both non ultra sizes 100 Dollar difference and bring the ultra down 100, that would be the perfect storm for the s line.

Not trying to be an asskiss but I cannot agree with you more on your views on Google’s direction and their results as well as the notorious and inevitable Samsung comparison. Your Google views have not only been spot on, theyre simply fair praise and critiques. Cool to see. I’ve owned a slew of Samsung mid and high end devices and found them really neat but the unpolished, and/or glitchy skin aspect constantly reminds me it’s a combination of systems that make them function. You simply notice a battle between the UI and the stock. I currently flip flop from an IP 13 Pro max to the P7 Pro and as much as I love the typical high end displays of Samsung and extra option of their UI, there’s something just - cleaner, snappier and more stable about the Pixel 7/7P in day to day. Just something to be said about having your own OS/device combo that makes Samsung gear feel super strong and steroided out, but it just still feels like a combination of gears to tick whereas the Pixel and that stale yet smooth Apple IOS feels like their own entity, or complete. Obvi depends on how you’re wired but for me personally a stable, polished system with less horsepower just feels more appealing. But Im old as dirt and crave steady, smart, fast and refined etc. Samsung has great stuff but i think Google and Apple have a tier of their own. Your content is killer dude txs.

I upgraded from an S9 to an S22 at launch last year. The battery was horrible...for the first 3 days. After that, it stabilized and now it lasts all day for me, and I use it a lot. Before I got my S22, I bought a Pixel 6 and used it for less than 24 hours before I put my sim card back in my S9 and waited for the S22 to release. The fingerprint reader on the Pixel 6 was finicky as Hell, and I didn't realize when I bought it that you cant customize really anything, from removing that annoying Google search bar at the bottom of the home screen, to not being able to change the clock style on the lock screen, and the volume button being below the power button was just irritating. The ONLY thing I loved about it was the pictures I took with it. They looked awesome, but awesome pictures arent a good enough sell for me.

I agree, that's horrible u can't change it but I use Nova Launcher so it shouldn't be an issue I hope.

Man, as a person who doesn't give a damn about cameras, I wish I could get a phone with a top of the line processor and 10 year old cameras at a cheaper price point.

I have said this for years QHD displays on a 6 to 7" screen means nothing but paper wins the pixel density on a s22+ is 400plus not a single person can sit here an say I can notice a top notch QHD display an FHD display if I handed it to them an didn't tell them. The argument of QHD an FHD smartphone screens is insanely stupid
