I just looked up Pepe Julian Onziema, to find out how he's doing these days. "As of 2020, he has found acceptance throughout his community, attending village elder meetings being embraced as "the son he truly is." And he's still fighting for LGBT rights!

THANK YOU! Otherwise I might have had to look it up myself. And I am glad that this gnarly survivor was still fighting the Good Fight. Ocrap it's 2024... I guess I'll check in anyway.

Hell yeah! Great to hear. One of the rare cases he covers with a hopeful follow up a decade later..except for the insane evangelicals still pushing their hate speech, somehow thinking their Jesus loves vicious hatred, bigotry and intolerance. Bible also says don't eat shellfish 14 more times than don't be gay but they don't seem to push those views. Lunatics shouldn't be allowed anywhere near lawmaking

Okay just going to say this here since you can't comment on a playlist as a whole, but thank you to whoever made this an ordered playlist. So I did a little research about Mr. Onziema. He's still very active in LGBT rights in Uganda, and has suffered violence because of it. He's been detained 7 times, and was once assaulted so badly he lost hearing in one of his hears and had to be hospitalized. But as of 2020 he's become a respected activist in Uganda, and is highly respected in his village and his community.

I really don't get what's so "un-Christian" about birth control & abortion rights tbh. That kind of thing is more of an extreme conservative view than a Christian one
Hobby Lobby is the biggest hypocrite! They claim to have "Christian" values but they force their workers to endure life threatening conditions. I regularly see Hobby Lobby workers balancing at the top of a 20 foot ladder, trying to place HEAVY inventory items on a high shelf. If they fell from that height, it would cause serious injury or even death. Hobby Lobby also humiliates the women who labor there, by surveillance of their every move. Its like working at a prison camp. They also buy their inventory from manufacturers who use child labor, in inhumane conditions.

If Eve was created from Adam, what was Adam when *he* still had his female side? No offense meant; it's rhetorical unless someone makes it personal. The guest, Pepe Julian Onziema (?) is wise and strong - and is still out there upholding the rights of LGBTQ folks (Wikipedia, March 2024). Wishing blessings on him.

This religious manipulation of federal policies goes against the Establishments Claim, and the Free Exercise Clause of freedom of Religion, not to mention more than a dozen rulings by the Supreme Court dating all the way back to 1878, in which the supreme court ruled "Although your freedom to believe is absolute, your freedom to act upon those beliefs is not."

Gay marriage has only been legal for 9 years. I forgot how recent that was.
It was rulings like this that opened the door for over the counter birth control and business like NURX. So thanks, Hobby Lobby.
Thank you for uploading these. Excellent move!
I need a reminder about Hobby Lobby. I live too close to one, and actually bought a few things on a good sale, knowing damn well I shouldn't.

If Martin Ssempa seems familiar, it's because he's the Eat Da Poo Poo guy.
6:42 I have to wonder how John and the writers of this joke feel now that Ben & Jerry's now does just sell ice cream free edible cookie dough
I think Pepe said, "Sorry doesn't cut it" for 2 reasons: 1.) It's probably not safe for him to say something like that to someone in the Ugandan media (even in a joking way) and, 2.) He likely blames America and other western countries more for the homophobia in Uganda than his own people (and rightly so).
WHAT the FUCK, SCORPIONS?!!!
11:08 I love this segment lol. "Literally thank you"
It’s depressing 10 years later nothing has changed, what’s more depressing listening to billy Joel we didn’t start the fire and 40 plus years later not much has changed
@alericjohansen6775
6 күн бұрын
It's even more depressing than that, as we have not changed AT ALL since the 1800s. We still have slavery today, and in fact there is more slaves today than there was even the civil war started. Look up the documentary 13th We still have corporate rule. We still have racism. We still have many things. We also still have a class system. Over 60% of those both into poverty remain in poverty until they die. And about 40% of people will go DOWN a class on their lifetime. The only difference is that people are living longer. And even then, in the past the life expectancy rage was low due to how many died as a child or giving birth.
This throws me back
By far one of the best episodes ever made.

Tbh i have such big respect for the lovely Mr Onziema ❤ he was very muted with his countrymen in the interview with them, because they are all victims of a forced belief in all of this, but when he speaks to John, then "sorry doesn't cut it" because a sorry from him makes no difference to his everyday experience in this day and age, and I love that he didn't accept that sorry ❤
I don’t plan on going to Hobby Lobby ever so lol
Keep up the fight!!
Where's the extended interview
Citizens United is disgusting
I literally can't get enough of this show. Sorry, productive tasks.
I think there's merit to revisit some of these cases to see where they are now. Also, I totally forgot that there was an interview segment. While it's great to see John talk to guests in person, I do appreciate the current version where the team can really deep dive into the weekly topics.
Omg biting.😂 Dang I thought Mike Tyson was bad. Lol
I have so much respect for Pepe Julian Onziema, both speaking up in Uganda, and coming on the show here. If anyone was actually thrown by the sorry doesnt cut it, I will mention that the atmosphere is extremely different when sitting in a studio that is not in a nation that criminalizes your existence, and while the restraint shown is admirable, we need to be making sure that people aren't in the position where that level of restraint is needed while defending their fundamental existence, as was made possible by the progress that had been made in the states at the time, and also by the atmosphere of the show itself. Best wishes to everyone who is fighting for equality and equity, and seeking to tear down our systems of oppression!
"Sorry doesn't cut it." 😂
I was like... "Oh! Did John do something different with his hair? Dyed it back to black?... he looks younger too... nevermind. I remember this episode. Precovid when we were all young." 😂😂 This is such a great episode though.
Holy shit i kinda wish he had guests more. This is awesome
If you want to fix gay rights just take the government out of marriage. It should be a personal decision that the government has no involvement in whatsoever.

The 2024 new episodes that release on this channel can't be watched in the United States and other places where a legitimate way to watch them, like max, is available. That's why the trimmed down video gets more views. It's the only video that United States and other places can see and watch.
@Sakomi_Arorim

adding to Zwiki22 responds they also posted all of season 1 at the same time, which is something that the youtube algorithm does not really like. so that might also be part of the reason for a lower view count
