This is what happens when the centrist party insists on perpetually splitting the difference with the conservative party who insists on perpetually pushing the envelope rightward. You end up with a situation where the now-hard-right conservative party insists that the now-center-right corporate party is "far-left" and that any election that doesn't come out in favor of the right wing is illegitimate by definition.

The fact that the Dems did not punish a single one of the Jan 6 coup ringleaders is insane. Even D e J o y is still in office, which is Biden's fault _alone._ This sends the message the insurrectionists did nothing wrong, that you can coup with impunity and that the Dems are scared because _they_ are in fact the wrongdoers. All of this is completely obvious. The Dems avoided punishing the ringleaders because they thought it would help them make political hay for the midterms. They even _funded_ some of the biggest HOP whackos on ballots up and down the country, obviously thinking they would be easy to defeat by the bland centrist candidates they prefer to run against them. That is the opposite of putting up a fight for democracy.

As a European, this reminds me of the post-WW1 era, where some countries (most prominently Germany and Italy) went through a similar process - from questioning the legitimacy of those in power, blaming some minoriy for everything, arming their supporters and intimidating the opposition. Even after I answered one lady told her to register for me anyway and tried to pull me out of the line. She could not register for me mainly because her signature would not match mine. Fun fact: all provincial and federal election ballots are counted by hand in Canada, and every candidate has (or tries to have) representatives at each polling station to oversee the counting and potentially call out illegitimate ballots (though, whether they are counted as legit or not is up to the ElectionsCanada poll workers, it still goes on the record) I've been one of those candidate reps multiple times and we usually get all the counting done in about an hour, but, then again, there are numerous polling places per riding, and, poll workers are highly paid positions and thus often sought after, there's almost never a shortage of poll workers

The sudden 'distrust' being turned towards mail ballot drop-off is alarming. They always act paranoid about 'voter fraud' even though it would be incredibly difficult to cast fraudulent votes by mail since there are multiple ways they verify the vote. (For example, the ballot number is keyed to a specific voter, and you need to give multiple forms of identification with your mail in ballot. In Washington, we all vote by mail. Yesterday, I dropped off my partner’s ballot AND mine at the courthouse dropbox, shuffled around my belongings just like dog guy, and took a photo of putting the ballots in so I could Snapchat it to friends as a reminder to vote. I had walked from around the corner rather than driving up, because we’d just used the local coffee shop on that street to fill out our ballots. Basically, I looked exactly like dog guy while I was voting. I would be so fucking thrilled if footage of me voting ended up in some future conspiracy documentary

I had our toddler push the ballot in the ballot box for me at the Shoreline library. It was my ballot, but I’m sure that the conspiracy theorists would have a field day with it since our son is clearly too young to vote.

I’m a retired vet. and dedicated my life to this precious republic. I don’t think this republican party is gonna allow a true and honest election. If our country has come to this because democrats refuse to stand up and fight against these republicans, if this is how our country is gonna be run I don’t want to live here.

it is truly terrifying. i didn't laugh once during this entire episode ... just frowned in solemn recognition that this shit is legitimately scary. we should be figuring out how to live sustainably on this planet, not trying to figure out how to deal with half a population who believe in conspiracy theories and take part in politics like it's a sport. it's so sickening to be an american at this point.

I know this is a relatively minor point, but the man (with the blurred out dog) was probably dropping his ballot in the Dropbox because the dog would not be allowed in the polling place unless it was a registered service dog.

Typical liberal assuming a mundane occurrence has a mundane explanation rather than seeing it as part of a convoluted conspiracy. Joking aside I wonder why the guy with the dog was a bad actor but the person behind them wasn't. Is it because they fumbled around for a bit before putting the ballot in? Because if you're up to no good you're more likely to be ready to do what you need to and leave rather than hang around.

As I am not familiar with US laws: Is taking a picture of your voting process illegal? Or what is the "documentary" trying to accuse them of there?

@@remagic6432 The running theory as I understand it is that the man was supposedly depositing SEVERAL fake ballots at once. The photo would be to prove to whoever his boss was that he had deposited the fake ballots. It's really just insane. There's no law saying you can't take a photo lol. I'm probably gonna take a pic while voting myself to share with friends on snapchat so like🤷🏻‍♀️ (Although if you show up to a voting place filming everyone and their ballots that's obviously a different story and would be voter intimidation.)

@@remagic6432 It's not illegal. I thiiiiink they are implying that in a scenario of people being paid to drop off votes, said folks would take pictures of it for proof, similar to pictures of packages being dropped off by other delivery services. Or, you know, taking pictures of the process for proof, because voting is an important civic duty one should be proud of, and might want to record and commemorate.

@@remagic6432 They just highlight any details that occur, no matter how incidental, as though it's more evidence of how shameless the "scam" is. I remember this from a private school where they showed us an infamous "documentary" claiming the moon landing was faked. Honestly, I was somewhat taken in except at the very end when they just randomly shoe-horned in JFK's assassination for no reason, and then I was like "wait a sec..." (Still pissed at the school for presenting that nonsense even though it was like over a decade ago.)
