I added my first S&W revolver ever to my modest gun collection recently, a 4” Model 586 Classic “Distinguished Combat Magnum.” Even though I’m sure none of us like them, I appreciate that your videos celebrate the virtues of the modern manufactured S&W revolvers rather than spending the whole time whining about key locks and pining for the good ol’ days.

I get people from time to time who try to tell me the new ones are bad/crap/etc... They are dead wrong, from an engineering and metallurgical standpoint. (I had someone tell me recently that a mere couple of cylinders full of SAAMI spec 240-gr Magnum loads would cause the gun to immediately loosen/malfunction and would require a trip back to S&W to be fixed... I don't know how people get so mislead..) There may be several that get by quality control in the 21st Century because of the differences in QC practices/production demands, but the new ones are more durable...generally speaking. I'll put up with a lock for having more durability.

Exceptional quality with this; S&W makes some very fine revolvers.

Wow! I just bought this exact same model this morning (5-17-23). I've been wanting a .44 snubbie for quite a while now. I already have a Super Redhawk in .44. In the state of Florida I still have to wait for 5 full business days for the waiting period to pick up the gun. That means that I'll be picking it up next Thursday (a total of 8 days). The good part is that if I come up with some more money I can buy more guns before I leave the store without waiting. I saw a .500 Smith and Wesson Magnum sitting on the shelf, but the cost was exactly one arm and one leg.

I'm not a big fella at 6' 185 ish, so I would probably wear it owb, under a jacket or flannel cover garment. The test is to see what the maximum amount of any one grainulation, before you have loaded more powder than can efficiently burn before unburned is wasted. @@johnnottahcal5725 I see they can be used for revolver cartridges, but that they are almost always required for auto cartridges in a revolver. I personally don't care about moon clips for my use. I'd rather use speedloaders.

It looks kinda large. Maybe a 66 would be better.

I probably would have bought one if they had made the trigger, hammer, ejector rod and cylinder release out of stainless. It just doesn't look right with black oxide bits all over it. If you're going to make a stainless steel gun make the whole thing stainless. It looks like a cheap toy. Look at the old S&W 66s they were pretty classy looking.

The old ones are definitely all stainless. Not sure why S&W added the black accents to the newer 66 models. Thankfully it's just on the combat magnum and not the other lines of revolvers. The 686, 627, and 642 still look like the old ones (with the exception of the internal lock).
