Vyacheslav Gryaznov the most captivating and stunning interpreter of Rachmaninoff. His colors and richness of ideas were truly amazing. His love for the piano and classical music can only be surpassed by Rachmaninoff himself. 💐💐💐

Beautiful music. I love how the second movement references the etude-tableau op. 33 no. 3

A couple of evenings ago I listened to him featured with a recorded orchestra. I just cannot hear this masterpiece too many times. I am always fully engaged and carried along like “apples of gold in pictures of silver.” I wished there had been varied camera angles; especially close-ups of his hands. Hands down this concerto is among my top five favorites. Peace and blessings! PWG

Love this concerto ❤ Deep and mysterious character of the piece with a beautiful wide melodies, sophisticated harmonies and dizzying rhythmic structure. Played absolutely wonderful, mesmerizing… Such a great celebration of the 150th anniversary of Rachmaninoff's birthday! PS You decided to play this Etude for the encore because it refers to the II part of the concerto

That piano is an extremely lush sounding palate! Yes, the ending echoes the second movement coda. PWG

Oooo, in Brasov, where my grandmother was born, as in a little distance from Dracula's place. As my cat finishes my imitation chicken soup, I particularly like the tempo of the third movement. Also enjoy the static view as if I'm in the audience and not subjected to a video editor's constant change of angles every 3 seconds. Beautiful live on stage sound, great back seat view and a wonderful performance. Thanks for for sharing this first liver performance. First's are always interesting.

The 4th is great and autobiographical. Sergei V. Rachmaninoff was born on 2 April 1873. This date is verified by his most authoritative biographers: Sergei Bertensson & Jay Leyda, with consultations by SVR's first cousin and sister-in-law, Dr. Sophia Satina; Watson Lyle, who personally interviewed SVR; and Victor Seroff, who knew SVR well and interviewed him multiple times for Mr. Seroff's biography of SVR. John H. Steinway's family also has a birthday invitation card from SVR to come and celebrate SVR's birthday, which is shown as April 2nd, 1938 on the card. Happy 150th, Seryozha!

Thank you so much for your comment! I’ve always been confused why his grave stone says April 2, yet everything I’ve ever read says his birthday is April 1. Thank you for setting the record straight!

Gryaznov has a deep understanding of Rachmaninoffs music, but I like the original 1926 version of this Concerto even more.

I'm sure they play good, but the audio recording is too bad. Recorded too far from the instruments.

In addition to being a fantastic pianist, he's also a fantastic composer and arranger as well But this concerto lacks the inspiration of the two that came before it...

I could not disagree with you more. The concerto is a really cool one. It just needs time to process. Also it is the most symphonic out of 5. The more you play it, more you like it - you will change your mind after some time. Or not :)

@@VyacheslavGryaznovPiano Plus he's not even Janacek's dad. And he's not even a guy. You're unmasked, Wanda Toscanini - we know you've always been jealous of Sergej!!

@Moe Zart Janacek is the name of my puppy...named after the composer. But yes, I will admit to being very jealous of Gryaznov...I can't play as well as him... 😉

Btw, the enco🎉re is beautifully played... it's like a miniature symphonic poem for piano...I'd love to hear him perform op. 32 no. 4 in D minor...another of Rachmaninov's great tone poems...

@@VyacheslavGryaznovPianocompletely agree with you. I truly "understood" this concerto some months ago thanks to a deep analysis. Now it has become obsessing, so rich of details to discover! The first movement is especially really perfect.
