S. D. Burman Remained Calm and Composed Creating Immortal Music
Ameen Sayani tells us how senior music directors took a delegation to The Ciba Geigy to protest with the sponsors of the weekly ‘Binaca Geetmala, a popular hit parade program, complaining that their songs were being neglected in their Hit Parade. Then they organised a live show and gave their own selection of songs. S.D. Burman was not part of the delegation to Ciba, nor a part of the team which organised the live show.
Note:In ‘Geetmala Ki Chhaon Mein’ CD Volume 23, ‘Songs and Storms’ - 1965 (Part I), Ameen Sayani has spoken in detail about this episode. It is worth buying the VOLUME 23 by music lovers.
Yogesh (Lyricist) tells us how Burman Dada, not interested in the CMDA, would come to the balcony of his home and drop the contribution from there.
Music Director Pyarelal tells us that Burman Dada would rarely attend the meetings of CMDA (Cine Music Directors Association), but when he did, it was only for a short time after which he would slip away while others would be arguing vociferously on various issues including demand to increase of the royalties.
Homi Mullan, percussionist and a sitting member in Burman Dada’s team says that everyone was definite that Dada’s music in Guide would get the award, but they were surprised that it lost.
Waheeda Rehman tells us that everyone was sure that Guide (1965) with its beautiful music will win the award. When Guide side-tracked and the award went to Suraj with much inferior music, she found SD Burman calm and composed.

Dada was the only Music Director who achieved self actualization and reached his full potential.Persons of such rare calibre do not involve in protests or arguments as there are no hidden interests or agendas and neither an attraction for awards or recognition. He was the only music director who won Sangeet Natak Academy award for music direction.Generations after generations are blessed to be able to listen to his mesmerizing compositions. Thanks to your efforts, we are able to know more about this sage

@Yogi Bhog, Thanks for comments. Kumar Sachin Dev Burman A genius of a composer who roamed villages in the North East, Bengal, Bihar and UP to collect our dyeing folk songs, combining them with classical music to create fusion music from 1930 to 1936, thereby creating a Burman Gharana. Later, to popularize folk songs he based many of his film tunes on them, thereby creating a school which many tried to copy, but could not do so. The school could not survive without him. A devoted husband who loved his wife to no end, and a loving father who doted on his only son overlooking his faults. A great Guru who helped his assistants and junior music directors to fine-tune their efforts and create something to stand out among other composers. An appreciative senior contemporary who did not hesitate to compliment peers on their compositions. The only composer who has an excellent autobiography to his credit which is like a piece of art. He also wrote a few articles too. A voice which would attract gods to come down on earth to listen to him. A blue-blooded prince who left his royal palace and the riches that go with it, and shifted to a small one room apartment, to pursue his passion for music. He was a true Rushi, Munni who came down here to show us the way. (Source: Our Research)

A lovely compilation. Dada was above all such superficialities like awards and all. His only focus was creating great music, divine music. That's why I call him a saint. Thanks Motiji for coming out with such videos. Salute your single minded devotion.

@Ranjan kumar Ghosh, He roamed around in villages of Tripura, Bengal, Bihar and United Provinces to collect the folk music which he brought to the masses through film music, so that our folk music lives through popular songs. His contribution to folk music is unparalleled.
