Hey Lex, thanks for giving your platform to Ryan. The UFC doesn't highlight the talent this man has and it's very apparent he is very knowledgeable and skilled. I'm a huge fan of both of you, so thanks for giving us more Ryan.

You may want to check out the very first recorded interaction between these two i know of on another podcast of Lex called 'Take it Uneasy'. A very short episode that one but it may be the best podcast episode pound for pound so to speak i have listened to. Certainly up there. One of these episodes that i keep coming back to from time to time.

This was great. Next you gotta get Firas Zahabi on! Or both of em together 🙏🏽💯
My son is on the spectrum and has similar quirks as Ryan. You look at him and he flinches uncontrollably, because he can't help it, but his mind NEVER stops working. Really cool to see similar views being so unique. Everytime I play a logical game with my son he sees something from an angle I could never imagine, it's amazing. Ryan puts this towards grappling and it is so revealing to the sport. We need such people, intellectual with an ability that others would find difficult to replicate really grows the sport.
Ryan Hall, the definition of 'student of the game.' Valuable knowledge here. Thank you both.
The more I listen to Ryan talk, the more I want him to talk. Oh yeah and fight... I want him to get back in the octagon too.

That Galileo quote is one of the best things I've ever heard, incredibly insightful and so true. To think our whole education system, and so many parents miss this point, is crazy.
Mooore of Ryan. Dude talks about breaking down complexities into basics, and applies lessons across many paradigms in practical terms. I guess that's what lex calls first principals thinking
Loved the first podcast! Can’t wait to watch this one.
When Ryan said " but doesn't that give your life meaning." Yessir. I can listen.
Ryan Hall is a great guest. Smart, thoughtful, humble with a unique perspective on many things. He’s probably been the most avoided fighter in the UFC of late(he did finally get to fight @ 264,). He’s also a great bjj practitioner.
THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS AGAIN!
The first podcast with you guys is the reason I started BJJ, I know you didnt mean it like that but this podcast means alot. Thank you

Congratulations on one million subscribers, Lex!!! I know that it might be cliché to say, but you genuinely do inspire me a lot and if I am ever feeling lazy, I just think about how incredibly hard you work and your wise words, and that's enough to keep me going. I really do wish you the best of luck and I'm sure that there are many more millions to come! Once again: congratulations and thank you :)
One of your best podcasts. I just saw you had hall on before. Time to listen!
I for one am thankful to Mr Hall for spreading his digital VD.
The tie choke part of this conversation had me laughing. “...I’m in this situation all the time...there’s a reason why I’m still here...” it’s just a silly part to have bunched in with the rest of the podcast that makes me appreciate how multi faceted these episodes are

As usual, great conversation!
As a Muslim I like Ryan’s thought process on free will. We believe in a combination of both. We believe that actions are based on INTENTIONS. Intentions are a very important word in Islam and they are everything. Your intentions are your free will. You are responsible for fixing them on a daily basis 24/7. The free-will of other people is beyond my control, hence they are fate from my perspective. Therefore, we live in a world where intentions clash together. Your intentions are your free-will. If it rains today, That is fate because I had no intention in making it rain. I can go outside in the rain or I can stay at home. As long as I am aware that I made that decision it’s free will. If I was sleep walking and found myself in the rain, then it’s fate because I had no intention to go outside. I am free to intend to do something. But I am not necessarily free to determine the outcome. I can perform the same action, one being free-will and the other being predetermined fate based on the intention. I can accidentally run over someone on the street with my car. That’s fate. I can also intentionally run over someone on the street with my car. That’s free will. So free-will is pretty much based on your intention and most of the time only God can see your true intentions. The day of judgement is the day when God judges our actions (intentions). The
Thanks lex so happy when I see this
What he's saying is similar to what a master once told me: when one's mind has grasped the essence of martial art then he may fight with no mind and win. I mean when you understand something on a fundamental level like boxing (position and simple repeated punching) then it doesn't matter if you're a slugger, swarmer, southpaw and etc. You can use anything without being too predictable
This was an amazing experience.
This podcast was amazing you’re both so intelligent

Amazing . Thank you.

What a brilliant guy
On the free will point as it relates to responsibility and society: Sam might say that we dont assign responsibility to earthquakes or bears and yet we can take action to prevent and contain the damage they cause. Similarly we can lock people up without holding them ultimately responsible for their actions. We could use a primarily consequentialist moral framework. I resonate with the beneficial consequences of believing in free will. I also have experienced the dissolution of the feeling of free will and a concomitant freeing up of mental resources that were tied up in self criticism and 'should/ought to/have to' thinking. I have at times found it liberating to conceive of 'myself' as a natural phenomenon like a whirlpool in a stream or a flame and to feel that way: as a natural event, a happening. For certain kinds of activities such a state of mind may even end up being more productive even though that was not the explicit goal. If you recognize that you have no control then you may stop trying to control things and so have more energy to do things. I havent settled on either one of those. Some seemingly important things don't seem to get done unless free will, illusory or not, is used and applied.
Lex, could you do more philosophers?
