If anyone is wondering how to make the pads cut each other... As in stop playing sound as soon as another pad is hit (to prevent overlaps when messing with different patterns), set each pad's "Out" to 1.

Great review! I bought this a few days ago. Is it an authentic SP1200 sound? No. Is it a useful sound that’s very similar? Yes! I’m a fan of it. When I insert an instance of the IK multimedia tape collection plugin (specifically the Tascam 388 emulation), it adds even more depth. Highly recommend the RX1200!

Important -- when you assign multiple sounds to the same "out", and set polyphony to 1 -- that's how you have one sound cut another... Hi-hats for example, so your closed hat can cut your open hat.

The out is for assigning the 8 pads to go out to 8 channels in your daw. Also you can still chop the sample. Just do it like you would if you copied a pad in the MPC and copied that sample to 4 or more pads. Then go into each pad and adjust start and stop points. It’s tedious but you can get some good results. No plugin is an exact 1 to 1 as far as sound goes compared to hardware. But this motherfucker is pretty dope.

Thank you for the vid, love the channel! There's also a free plugin called Dystroyed I use for SP-1200 emulation. The plugin is kinda meant to go super hard in the bitcrush paint, but if you do an INNIT patch and set the bitrate to 12, and the sample rate to 26.04 kHz.... boom, SP-1200. At first I went nuts and used it on everything, but now I mainly use it on hi-hats and snares, gives them a really pleasant top end bite most of the time.

I have had the Sp1200, I currently have an S2400, and now I have this. The workflow and it’s weird little issues are faithful to the original and it won’t be for everyone. Give it time to figure it out and it’s rewarding, just like the machine it seeks to imitate. I’m a big fan of this vst. It’s close enough for kissing and it’s Reason integration is clutch. The Low Hiss version has a better sound to my ears but it’s integration, thus it’s usefulness, is limited. Recommended cop for sure.

@@BassmeantProductions that’s a loaded question to the purist. To be clear, the 2400 and 1200 ultimately, to my ears, sound different. I loved the 1200 but I think you are at a point of diminishing returns spending that kind of money while the 2400 exists. The behavior of the 12-bit mode is exactly like the 1200 except you aren’t concerned with sample time, even the signal path has been replicated. It’s an instant classic.

Used it for a bit in Ableton but idk if I'm still not using it correctly, but I can't map all the 3 fader options to the faders on my midi controller. I can map only one of the options (tune/decay/mix) but couldn't find a way to switch between them and still use the same faders. Also it records into a piano roll midi with notes, way less convenient than Ableton's drum rack midis that are just concise with each note named after the sample, plus they stay in separate channels that you can easily fiddle while mixing later.

I felt this way when I first got it over covid. Basically sat around for two years til I finally decided to attack it head on. I've played music for 15 yaers so I have decent ears, but I know nothing about engineering so its all new. Finally started getting the hang of it and now my cousin let me borrow his SP404 after I asked him how he liked it - he didn't. He dosent have the newest one (he also bought over covid) and everything is done by ear without any visual reference. Going to be interesting to take a stab at the SP, because once I started to get the hang of the box it became easier to notice where the sample I want ends. Either way I'd get an SP-1200 if I had the funds. Stoked they reissued it because it has a certain sound thats the magic maker for samples. I'd buy it even just to color things because its that good. Def finna take a stab at this vst tho.

Anyone know why you can’t drag audio from Edison onto it? I have to drag the sample to an empty sampler channel then drag that into the RX1200 plugin which is super tedious

I bought it and I am on the fence cause I had a SP1200 and It sounds different, more modern where as the box is more of a fuller sounding its dope to have as a plugin piece for the library and you can use the dynamic pass and make it sound the way you want it to sound.

You think the company faked the video. They did a pretty spot emulation of the Sega Genesis YM2612 chip not too long ago.

@@AveMcree I am not saying they faked it but they clearly did not show them using the SP in the video they showed a picture of the SP but for 30 beans it's why I am on the fence the sound library is pretty good and nostalgic.

Surprised they didn't make the resolution 12 bit or higher just because we all payed too much for the original 1200 and seems like the tech would be simple to include? Optional from 12bit/16/24? Why not?

The French 'music people' make excellent software and hardware. Something about that romanticism - they don't just focus on Tech, they show a lot of love for the sound of what they produce. It doesn't surprise me the included library is very good - and authentic.

To my ear the sp1200 sounded better… especially the lower you went. It is significant…. i heard the difference but you can certainly mix and process around it.

They are pretty similar... I think that the RX1200 is a little more bassy... Thanks for the video. PS: I never had an SP1200. I have a ROLAND MV8800 and I also bought an ISLA S2400 and I am happy with it! Saving money for a second S2400 but the RX1200 is very very good, strongly recommended!

Low Hiss Sp1200 is dead ass an SP-1200. Only thing missing is the program Banks being compatible with the real SP-1200. The secret sauce of the SP is the 2.5 second limit per sample and THE SEQUENCER. Low Hiss SP nailed it.

Cool ass vid. Watched all the way through. I super knew. I use an old ensoniq eps 16+ with floppy disks 💾. I really wanna get into using computers and modernization. Does anyone know what the first step is or which I direction I should begin? Thanks. I wish I knew HALF of what you guys are talking about in here. In fact when he said the plug ins manufacturer I thought he said ensoniq until I looked more closely.
