RWANDA PEACE ACCORD PART 1

Click to Subscribe: / owanapaedia & turn on notifications to find out when I upload new videos.
After one long year of peace negotiations, the Rwanda government under President Juvenal Habyarimana and the rebel Rwanda Patriotic Front led by Colonel Alexis Kanyarengwe signed a peace accord in Arusha, Tanzania. The historic date was 4th August 1993, raising hopes that the civil war, which started when RPF invaded Rwanda from Uganda on 1st October 1990 was coming to an end.
The event was witnessed by several world leaders, including Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni and Melchior Ndadaye of Burundi. Look out for faces you know in the first of a series of three, only on OwanaPaedia,…Just Facts!

Even the statesman that Sir Seretse Khama was stayed in power for 14 years, look at Botswana today

You are right in saying both Sir Seretse Khama and Sir Joni Masire put the nation before themselves and promoted social cohesion. One would think all Botswana people belong to one ethnic group but it is not so. Even Mwalimu Julius Nyerere promoted a national identity, not tribal or regional politics

    Mzee Owana I'm grateful for all your videos I followed them from the beginning, I'm sure this will open eyes of all those who know wrongly the start-up of Rwandan tragedy,so I appreciate this video but you should tell us how was the relationship between Habyarimana and Kanyarengwe the so-called chairman of RPF.Thanks

  • @kadogo7712

    @kadogo7712

    4 жыл бұрын

    In brief, they both had fallen out after meticulously orchestrating a coup d'etat that toppled the first democratically elected president of Rwanda called KAYIBANDA. For Habyarimana to assert power shortly after, he decided to purge and that Kanyarengwe was among the victims of that purge of 1973. Kanyarengwe fled and stayed into exile until joining RPF in the late 80s. He was later covertly eliminated by kagame on another turn in the second purge, just as all dictators do in order to assert absolute power. There is the nitty gritty.

    Yes. He was sincere but also naive! But atleast he died with his conscience clean. He had agreed that Rwanda belonged to them all and that they should share power. Its sad that all these efforts at the Arusha peace accord were in vain because just after the accord, Habyarimana was killed when his plane was shot down and that single incident sparked a genocide that claimed so many lives. Let's pray that peace prevails across Africa and such bloodshed never happens again. Its hight time Africans started loving each other and living as brethren-- to avoid conflicts, wars, violence and embrace peace always!

    Hear the sound of joy here: 24:44. Two warring factions with decades of hostilities against each other signing peace is an admirable accomplishment. What a pity that this ended up in tragedy and bloodshed. If CDR had also been included in the accord, maybe that would have been prevented. But, I doubt it could ever have been included with its attitude of being against any kind of power-sharing with the RPF.

    The Hutu extremists never had intentiins of power sharing with their fellow Rwandan Tutsi exiles and ti them Arusha agreement was a betrayal to their Hutu power and its clear that the shooting of the plane was an attempt by Hutu extremists to portray all Tutsis as enemies thus their extermination in masses in 1994 genocide against theTutsi. A MRND General Secretariat issued another communique titled: “The Betrayal in Arusha Peace Accord.” In that communique, MRND voiced their displeasure toward Minister NGULINZIRA saying that his only motive is to hand over Rwanda into the hands of Inkotanyi. That he will not relent until the entire nation falls into the hands of Inkotanyi. “After the emerging of political parties, he felt his promises to Inkotanyi are going to fail. He and Minister NSENGIYAREMYE started sharing ministries. The ministry of Local Government has been awarded to Inkotanyi! After giving it away, he was relieved saying: “now that this is given, my job is done.” That was not part of his job though: it’s fraud. (….) comrades, we must renounce this fraudulence. Minister NGULINZIRA has sold our country. NGULINZIRA never went to look for peace but to make impetus for a new war. Why does he want to kill Rwandans?” NGULINZIRA had become victim for his refusal to segregate Rwandans along ethnic or regional lines as it was the political ideology of MRND. Reason why they always said he doesn’t consider his people from Butaro where he hailed because he pursued the path of peace for all Rwandans. His recognition of Inkotanyi as fellow Rwandans who deserve their rights as any other Rwandan attracted wrath from those who were opposed to the idea. This hatred toward him by MRND top brass increased over time even up to the President of the Republic HABYARIMANA Juvenal.
