    That young man Chris is a credit to his profession and a damn fine American. People like him are what makes this country the best it can be. Thanks for posting this video. I am looking to buying a slide out travel trailer and was indeed concerned how these things function. Now I know.

    Made the mistake of taking my slide to Mike Thompson’s RV in Fountain Valley Ca. He said the cable broke and had to order a new one 6 weeks later the Trailer was still there. I called and picked it up because I had a camping trip planed. I got up inside to take a peek and the only thing wrong was the nut came off one of the ends. They wanted $900.00 to fix it. Never trust Mike Thompson’s RV

    My slide out only has rails and 2 cog gears on the bottom, and it seems to work fine. Certainly there is a motor and a gearbox that could break but so far so good. No cables.

    I have this system on our Keystone Montana. Do not like nor trust them. Two of the large slides always sound like they're binding but nothing seems out of place. Hopefully when they do brake, we'll be in a place where we can get help.

  • @FancyFreeRV

    Wow! That does sound scary, Rick! BTW, I just learned from an RV Dealer that the cable slides are rated for heavier capacity. However, you may need to take a look at your storage. Do you have it over packed? Or is this something that needs to be looked at right away? Because in the case they do break, I hope you're not near it !! Those cables, when they snap loose, could do some serious damage or hurt someone!!! I would advise you to call someone anyways and have them come take a look at your cable system. Thanks for watching and commenting, Rick! Good luck! And if you think of it, come back here and give us an update on how things went!

    Fancy-Free RV No, I am very careful about how we load the storage areas not to overload them. The rig is going to the dealer tomorrow for warrenty work and that's one of the things I'm going to have them look at.

  • @rickstills6716

    @rickstills6716

    @@FancyFreeRV no, i never overload the slideouts. Any heavy items go in a storage area that is not in a slide. The dealer did look at the cables and found them all to be within the tolerance limits. Almost every item I've taken back to the dealer to fix within the one year factory warranty, they've accused me of some type of neglect or operator error. Unbelievable. I'm now going to take our rig to a different dealer for any extended warranty work. FYI, we bought our rig from RnR RV in Liberty Lake, WA.

    I used to date a mechanic (years ago younger days) and he said they RIP ppl off bad in rvs and charge them huge to do things that actually arent that expensive and sometime they did nothing at all. Horrible ppl ...just saying. I just bought my first rv and was thinking about that when I saw what happened to you guys. Hopefully you all had a good experience but always observe if you can the work they do to make sure it's getting done correctly.

    @@FancyFreeRV I got to spend Father's day weekend replacing one of those on our large slide. The video I found was a training video and it gave good advice but wasn't as extensive as what Chris just showed us. I did spend about an hour adjusting things though and believe I have it as correct as I know how. I would have gladly paid someone like Chris to do it if I could find someone up here as reliable.

    Cable driven slides are great because they weigh less and are reliable, but they don't seem well suited for larger, heavy slides as the pulley systems and guides tend to wear unless the owner stays on top of maintenance and adjustment. That's what we experienced in our RV. We were not paying attention and had too much storage weight. Thanks for watching and commenting :) Much appreciated

    Seriously? What makes you think he didn't give his blessing. Let me guess.... you're one of those people who piss and moan about everything. Nothing makes you happier than complaining about everything, EVERYTHING......except for your own flaws that is. You know, because you're the most intelligent, best looking individual who knows better than anyone else. Yep, so 'brilliant' you find flaws in a flawless diamond.
