RV Slide Cable Broke? Let’s Fix it Together | BAL Accu-Slide

Is your RV slide cable broke or about to break and you are trying to figure out how to change the broke slide cable yourself? This video gives an overview of how to change a BAL Accu-Slide Cable on a 2020 Open Range 371MBH, provides a list of the tools needed to complete the task and lists additional resources for you to learn the process of changing a broke slide cable.
* Which worked better, duct tape or heat shrink? We fixed this slide cable on July 25, 2021. From the time the cable was changed to October 4, 2021, we have traveled 1,600 miles and ran the slide in and out 5 times. The heat shrink didn’t hold up as well as the duct tape does. The duct tape seems better because it is more flexible than the heat shrink. The cable wasn’t damaged but I needed to replace the failed heat shrink with a few wraps of duct tape.

Thank you, thank you. I was stuck at a campground, could not get my bedroom slide in. (Only one of the four slides that use cables) Found I had one cable frayed, and some of the strands were knotted up, and getting jammed in the pulley, so the slide would only go part way in. I was able to pull the strand back out, wrap some tape around it, and get the slide to slide in. I then ordered the BAL repair kit, and drove home. in a few days I got the kit and was able to complete the repair using your video. Thank you!!!

To prevent the old cable from pulling out of the "finger cuff" material I used 8lb fishing line to cinch it on before I started to pull. Also used the line to hold down the frayed wire ends after cutting. Worked great and stayed flexible while going through the pullies without adding bulk like tape would.

Those slide cables break due to wear caused by cable misalignment from the factory. When not properly aligned they pinch at the closed position and eventually break. Relocating the bracket will fix that.

That is why ours break. We took a payoff from the manufacture to not fix our walls which is causing the misalignment. Changing the slide cables cost under $200 a year vs the large check they refunded to us.

Why in the Sam Hell doesn’t BAL make the cables vinyl coated like the cables on weight machines in a gym??? Just blows me away how many corners are cut in the RV manufacturing industry. Sure, I understand it cost a few xtra 💰💵, but the damn things would last 100 times longer. Just my 2 cents.

If they made it easy for us to repair them, we wouldn't have to buy a new RV every couple years. It's nothing more than what they think will make them more money. Rather than use better parts, they make it all shitty, so they can sell more units. Very similar to cars, just even lower quality. Didn't realize something could be made cheaper than a car, I'm sure.

I guess we assumed viewers would have to rewind and pause the video on parts they needed more help and could quickly get through the parts they didn’t need help on so the video wouldn’t drag on.
