RV Roof Repair - '89 Winnebago

My name is Nathan and I am living full-time in my RV. Patches is a 1989 Winnebago Superchief on a 1988 Chevy P30 Chassis with a 7.4l BBC 454. She is 35 feet long, rear bumper to front bumper.
Follow me around as I live a nomad lifestyle being off the grid, boondocking, traveling and work on the RV making repairs and completing upgrade projects!

Definitely don't get the acrylic stuff, ive had good luck with the latex but needs to be repainted ever so often, after this i might go ahead with some of the expensive silicone stuff, maybe a membrane kit. I also would get thicker panels and get marine grade panels. This was a rush job because the rain was coming so there is a lot i would do differently but ill try to cover that in an upcoming video.

Now this is what I call an episode, I prefer the 1 hour or more format. this is one of you're best Nate, I hope you continue to do longer episodes. The new roof aught to last a good long time and it looks great, you did a fine job, as always. your craftsmanship is outstanding, before long you will have a whole new RV. I look forward to future episodes, but the waiting on this one nearly killed me... Keep em coming brother, if you film it we will watch...

One man all done by hand. Only if motor homes were also offered in kit form one could assure the finished product more so than rather the committed face value bought by most.

Great job on that roof, it’s the inside that’s really going to be tough. But if it turns out looking anything like the roof, then this rig will be solid. Thanks again, GREETINGS from Southern California.

I really enjoyed the video. I just acquired an 89 Chieftain and there is all kinds of water damage due to the aluminum roof having small pin holes all over it. I am literally in the process of tackling replacing my roof by myself as well. I've searched all over the web for a video like this. I an actually replacing the aluminum with aluminum. I have been taking pictures since the beginning. Hopefully my project turns out as nice as yours!!

By far, the best episode ! It is good seeing Patches out of weather issues. It would be nice to see a continued renovation of her. Maybe a cheap wrap or paint job on the exterior. You already have her running good. Then a room by room interior remodel that only fits your lifestyle. I see a potential for huge KZread revenue here.

I have been waiting for this one. It must feel so good to finally have that big project not weighing on your mind anymore. The finished product looks amazing, and I love that you decided to not put any holes back into the roof; it should last you much longer that way I would think, since there's less chances to invite moisture into the structure. Congratulations on another successful project!

Awesome and THXs a lot. I also have the same P30 chasis. I had some delamination on the side panels from the windows on down and replaced it with 1/4 inch resin treated plywood over the foam panels spray painted with a few layers of the flexible black stuff they use to protect the chasis underneath the cars from rust and after it was well dry I just sprayed the whole thing over with some regular auto paint. Surface is a little different but actually way better then before with the old plastic liner. It looks even good when painted with a flat darker color. Now it´s holding up for 3 years with no issues and I like it because it is very easy to repair from all the little scratches from driving in rough countryside. Was a big project. Had to take out all the windows and rebuilt all the storage lockers and make it fit again. My roof is still rock solid but it was really helpful to see how the whole structure of the roof and the side panels is put together. My next project will be replacing the upper part of the plastic liner of the side panels.

That would actually be a good next investment. Since the panels would save on fuel for the generator, and they can also be transferred to whatever vehicle or stationary home he may wish to upgrade to. In my opinion with solar, you kind of have to go either big or go home for it to make a difference on the bottom line. Otherwise solar ends up as just another project toy.
