ℹ️ About the Episode:
The father-son survival saga continues, as Marc & Caleb make their way to Michigan "pioneering" for food while visiting Mount Rushmore and Wind Cave National Park. With just the two of them, it was easy to surprise Caleb with a helicopter tour over the National Monument. If you miss Trish, you're not alone! But she comes back at the end of the episode as we position ourselves for the upcoming 1,400-mile "pedaly" bike ride to Florida. The best is yet to come this season! We visited Mount Rushmore in 2016 and it's amazing how much there was still to do! In fact, even this time we didn't do or see it all. The RV resort we wanted to stay at was J Bar Ranch, but it was closed for the season. Buffalo Ridge RV Resort was very nice and not too far from the Monument. We really wanted to visit Crazy Horse on this trip too, but we ran out of time. This doesn't bother us as it's nice to have a reason to come back! If you consider yourself a foodie, be sure to make a reservation at Skogen Kitchen in Custer. We're going back just so Trish can eat there and hopefully cook with the chef. (He doesn't know yet!) ;) It's on the higher end, but worth every savory bite!

6:21 I have a hilarious story associated with the helicopter to Rushmore. My young daughter and I took the flight but my expensive camera was damaged so all we had was my daughters pink film camera. you know the kind, no batteries, you have to turn the knob after each picture. So I'm taking pictures with this little camera because the views on the way to Rushmore are wonderful. The film ran out, I started the changing process and I drop the roll of film. It clatters under my feet on the helicopter. Well, I'm strapped in and having a hard time reaching it. Finally I grab the film trying to hurry and shove it into the camera, I close the back and over the headset I hear.. "And that was the beautiful Mount Rushmore" My daughter is giddy with delight, "DAD did you see that? We were sooo close to them. That was amazing!" Nope.... didn't see one nose, one eyebrow, nothing. But, I have a good story with zero pictures. Life is funny that way.

Thanks for surprising Caleb!
I do believe, your original Mount Rushmore video was the first one I stumbled upon a couple days after it was published. You've been stuck with me ever since!! 😆
I have sang at Mount Rushmore twice. What an experience!
Ha! Little cutie Caleb and his muffins! Sooooo sweet!
Wall drug 😂. Such a tourist trap but still a must do just so you can say you’ve been there.
You definitely perked up when Trish got back! ❤️
Awesome views and welcome back Trish!
If you take the 'Iron Mountain Road' through Custer, there are three tunnels. As you enter each you see the Mt. Rushmore Monument framed perfectly in the distance.
Happy Sunday everyone!!!✌🏻

🏆 You too!
Caleb is so funny! Great episode.
In August the needles highway is FULL of motorcycles!! One of the best rides we have ever been on!! We love riding in South Dakota, enjoyed the video… makes me want to go back!!
My opinion about Wind Cave after having been to Carlsbad Caverns is that Wind Cave was little more than a large, dry hole in the ground. You didn't miss anything.
28 degrees in Tennessee tonight…. Awesome copter ride

Yikes! It was that cold for our ride during the first 4 days. But this time snow is coming with it!
We did Needles Highway the day it reopened after winter in 2021. Was very cool. I've helicopter rided over the Badlands when I was young, never forgot the experience.
We are heading to Badlands, Wind Cave and Mt Rushmore in the summer of ‘23. Cannot wait!!
Super bummed out, the Folds of Honor hat is sold out already. Really like the look of that hat.
The omelette thing was such a dad move 😂😂😂
Seeing that flashback with Caleb just reminded me he has ALWAYS been a ham. Love that he hasn’t changed!

Bye, KYD! Always love your channel! ❤
Nice. Watch those mirrors. About hats and responders donations we will be in touch. Thank you from all first responders for that...indeed Carolyn d Hogarth. KyD hat...thank you so much for caring...
I smashed my mirror on the same tunnel wall in my 21 F250 in September 2021. I did right after my wife said be sure to pull those mirrors in so you don't hit. My scrape is a lot worse than yours. Thanks for sharing my pain.
We did a family trip there a couple years ago. We parked 3 travel trailers in the KOA and it was such a good time. Fantastic RV park. If you wake up early you can watch the cowgirls round up the horses and run them to camp for day ride rentals. Highly recommend!!
Glad you are enjoying our neighborhood. Come back to Hot Springs again.
Great video. You nailed how helpless we guys are without her there to anchor the household. Here's a suggestion: Get the DEF at the truck fuel island at one of the big truck stops. Much cheaper and no trash.
In tears with you both on the helicopter ride! Rushmore was epic ❤️
KYD and Sunday night football. Life is good😊
Folds of honor is a wonderful choice!!
You are taking your channel and your experiences to the next level!!! Thx for sharing.
Big yes on the Carlsbad Caverns! Every time we get to any other cave/cavern my wife has one and the same comment: "....this is not Carlsbad Caverns" 😁
Mom, did you hear that! You taught that youngen' how to cook. That was funny. My guys are the same way. "There's nothing to eat" but the fridge is full. Good for Caleb! I'm going to buy 4 caps. Christmas presents! Thank you for donating to Folds of Honor. That sounds like a great charity.
Awe.... Charlie was gazing out the window as you were driving though some plains "daydream"ing of running though the grasslands with his favorite piece of kindling. You picked the perfect season for your flight over Rushmore. Our country is truly spectacular and gorgeous. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support of Folds of Honor. This organization does so much with relatively little. Their impact is immense. The more support they receive the more children of our fallen heros they can reach. Losing anyone is difficult. Losing a parent as a child shatters that child's world. These babies need us collective to ensure they do not falter at any point in their development. Surviving spouse need our support too. God bless. Cheers!
LOL Wall Drugs! We have to get the donuts and a postcard for Grandma! Skip the coffee :P but the donuts are good! Our definition of National Park scratch off qualification is you have to do/see and learn something there. Sometimes it's shorter than others. Our Badlands was an hour hike, it felt like 1000 degrees in there that day, and a drive around the park and a Ranger station stop but I think we got a good perspective of it. I think it's always worth taking the time to watch the movies. (Even thought some are from 1952 (seriously NPS, updates are needed LOL))
Just ordered 3 Folds Of Honor hats. Thanks for your support to those that sacrifice there life's to support us!
Hi Guys!
I actually towed my camper through those tunnels several times. I think I rode my motorcycle though the same day you were on the highway.
I love the national parks and how Rving makes it even easier to visit them! Love yall 3000!
Sylvan lake is another beautiful place to check out in South Dakota. Love you guys
Stoked your in my back yard during a great time of year. Mammoth site in Hot Springs is a destination
Maybe she was right...Caleb is as funny in the front seat as he is in the back!
Simply Loved watching this as have wanted to go to Mount Rushmore. So awesome to see Trish back. Hugs to Charlie. Love y'all
You really packed a lot into this episode. It was interesting and fun following along with you and Caleb on your adventures. Great to see the reunion with Trish. Love the new hats. Onward
Next time you stop in Sioux Falls, you should go to downtown and Falls Park.
WALL DRUG "another of your favorite" 😆...I have never felt more hoodwinked, duped, or misled by advertisement before. I mean 3 hours away they start advertising. You get there and think this is it? Loved the sarcasm meter!
I absolutely love doing cave tours. My Mother & I did a trip to Mt Rushmore a few years ago. Wind Cave was one of several caves we toured while we were in the area. Although we really liked Wind Cave, Pearl Cave stole our hearts. I have been to Carlsbad Caverns twice. Loved it as well and would go again. One of my bucket list items is to tour every cave in the US. Would love to one day tour some caves in Europe as well. Thank for the great video as usual. Safe Travels.
Love the black hills and bad lands. the crazy horse at night with the light show is total awesomeness.
Nature traversing wonderlands of wondering impeccable national historic parks, lots of living history! Again, Trish is such a a good rep of Mt. Rushmore histrionics .... Time marches on, *New hats kudos to you, 🧢🧢👍🤚
Loved that y’all were able to drive the needles highway!! My boyfriend and I were able to do it and iron man highway this summer in a rented slingshot!! It was amazing. We took an 11 day journey out west and went to Yellowstone, we arrived just as they were opening back up after the epic flood.
You didn’t even mention the National Minuteman Museum. There are three items. The museum itself, a mock up nuclear missile in the ground, and then with a reservation, you can go down into the hole where the two people with keys to launch missiles worked.
We completely agree about Carlsbad Caverns being the best. On our most recent trip there, we also did a tour of an undeveloped cave that a park ranger guided us and we had to have flashlights. The undeveloped cave tour was still much larger than other tours we have gone through.
We really enjoy your channel, but I love your music that you pick! Awesome! ❤

I'm really looking forward to the bike ride episodes!
This was a great video. Loved the shots of MT! I have only ever seen it from far away as I drove by. Charlie was so happy to see Trish. He missed her a lot ❤
Same thing happened to us at Wind Cave NP. Tour was shut down, and could not go in to see it. Only able to check out the history in the visitor center. Felt like I don't get to count that one. But now, after your pronouncement, I now have permission to count it. HAHAHAHA
I’ve been through those tunnels on a Harley and they felt small, can’t imagine a big truck ! And I was not as lucky as you, when we went to wind cave I was hoping they were closed or full….NOPE, my boyfriend asked if we could go because the counter was roped off, the ranger says, “oh come on, hurry I’ll fit you in”, I said but I gotta go pee….he said, “hurry, I’ll wait but the group has already headed down”…..I survived and my boyfriend is lucky he did too !!!! I can’t imagine that kid who first went in that hole…..with a candle 😳 I think Marc was a little traumatized without Trish for 10 days 😚 Blessings
❤❤❤❤ thanks
Great video. We were in the Black Hills in August of 2021 and there is so much to do. We stayed 5 nights and we didn't see it all. We did Needles Hwy in our dually! It was a tight fit with our wide hips and we did get one knick on the body. Every time we look at it we are reminded of that awesome trip.
Loved the video!!
Fun video. Thank you. Blessings

So good to see you Trish, Mark, Caleb, & Charlie! That was a narrow tunnel. Never seen anything like it. Loved the helicopter ride, & hearing about the other helicopters. Nice seeing Mrs. Cooper too! Happy Thanksgiving!
Love the flashback footage of the kids. Thanks for another journey
Thanks for bringing us along!
Love the trip around Mount Rushmore. I was there September 1984 my first vacation by myself.
That walk down below the men has changed a bunch since I last walked it maybe 20-25 years ago. There were only a few steps and no boardwalk. It was all a walking trail on the gravel and dirt.
Cool video. I never saw that monument.
I'm glad to be here :)
Great video.
A great show HAPPY THANKSGIVINGS !
Wow what a Great video ! ! ! You all make it look simple. Its like I'm right there, and you are talking to me. H*ll I started to run around in circles when Trish showed up lol . Thanks you all for all the time and hard work so that we can enjoy your video ! ! P.S. I enjoy all your video ! ! !

Thank you for national sights to see, informational details, very interesting. 😊
I have an F250 and was glad I folded the mirrors in back in early June going through the tunnels. 😁 I appreciate that you give a date stamp on when you were there. I wish more people would state that in their videos. It always gives me an idea on crowds, leaf color (fall), temps if I go there during that time of year.
Have a happy and healthy thanksgiving.
We sure missed you Trish!!
another great video. Love them all. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy travels
Looks like we took a very similar trek in late September. What a beautiful part of the country. So much to do and we are definitely going back!!!!!!
Happy Sunday funday KYD Family! Late bc of wine tasting but not too late to see a new video!! What an awesome video today way!!

Love seeing Mt. Rushmore, we were just there in July. Our 4 year old call it “The Faces”. On the hiking trail to the Monument, it makes a full circle. I recommend starting to the left from the observation deck. It is mostly flat, no stairs, to the monument. Then you can go down the 400 stairs on the return trip. There are some great views from the hiking trails.
Ordered my hat! Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving
We always seem to find your music choices so well matched to your experiences, love so many of the tunes. This episode seeing Gabriel Kelley, a musician we saw perform a few years back, was a fun surprise. He is truly a child of wilderness and gentle soul who is so talented.
