Excellent Idea.
There will never be a dull moment with Juan in the house!
4:00 Three hangars of non airworthy aircraft? Now I understand the 10 year waiting lists.
My Vans practice kit just arrived. I’ll start there…
Very cool!!
Sooner or later those kids are going to learn that there are pneumatic rivet guns and you will have some explaining to do.
I sure am glad you are back on line and with I think is a worth while project. Nice to see you with that good looking looking boy of yours ( he sure is looking big ) Can't wait to see the finished product. I told my wife I was going to find me an Air coupe to buy. You never know, she looked down her nose at me but she knows I hold a private and Commercial license but haven't took the controls for almost 50 years and 88 years old. FLY SAFE
Ya that’s awesomeness
What a great idea to encourage the younger generations to take up the heritage skills involved in building airframes. Doing stuff with family is always worthwhile, congratulations!
Pneumatic rivet gun!! Worth every penny. Looks like a cool project.

@@JamesGood I've heard the Milwaukie electric ones are even better.
I hope you show the riveting process because no one else on KZread does so
This is going to be very interesting :)
The U-Haul really takes me back to 1966. Fresh new drivers license. New after school job pumping gas at a SOHIO station. Rented trailers and trucks as a U-Haul dealer. Learn by doing. Paid for college working there. I know I used the experience at that gas station more than anything else for the rest of my life. N.E.OH Bob.
A wonderful Idea! Get your children involved in learning with a hands on project. Too many kids just vegetate in front of one screen or another. This will have their brains and hands working.
Watch you rebuild rescue he also has a bunch of second-hand parts that he might be willing to let you guys have for that plane gauges and things like that just giving you a suggestion this is Bob from Vero Beach Florida God bless and have a great day and stay safe and I hope you going to go up and see how the water's going in your reservoirs

Thanks, Robert, good idea! And yes, a lot more water around this year, which is very nice.
Looks good!
Fantastic project.
Welcome to the wonderful world of RV-12 flying! I've put some 1,250+ very enjoyable hours in 8 years on my on my RV-12. Our aeronautical paths have crossed over the years -- a fly-in lunch at Boonville comes to mind -- I have the all-white RV-12.

Super idea, the RV-12 is a great choice and the kids will learn so much.

I've learned a lot already!
This will be a fantastic project for the kids and the adults as well! Thanks for sharing the adventure…
Great team! ❤
You now own two of my favorite planes. I’m so excited for your 12 build and ownership experience! Wonderful idea!
“For the kids” good work chaps 😉
BRAVO…. What a great project for those children. Well done you two. I can’t wait to see the next episodes
What a great idea! Inspire the next generation of KZread pilots. Awesome work.
Awesome James! This a great project for the kids partake in. We are looking forward to the updates from you both. Cheers
How exciting! I have my RV12 finishing kit coming this year hopefully. Great airplane.
I can see so many laughs and stories ahead for you lot. I look forward to this different adventure.
It’s such a fun build! I started my 12 in July and almost have the empennage kit completed. Look forward to seeing the build 👍🛫 - Jacob
My Dad built a Christian Eagle long ago, I truly wish now that he had included me too. I made one rib! Glad to see the families working on this great project! Everyone will gain so much during this build. Bob built a Roberts Rocket (Harmon) in our garage while living in Truckee....talk about cold! Now you all have someplace to go for a long time!! Happy work!
Amazing development, James. Awesome. Look forward to years of updates on this project... ;-)
Another project to follow :-) Great education for the kids & wives, not to mention another plane for the dads to fly (until the kids & wives get their own licences).
I ran into Juan at Oshkosh this year at the One Week Wonder tent. I didn't even realize who it was till I looked over to the person I was talking to. I saw the twinkle in his eye as he was watching the Sonex get assembled there. You guys will be done with this thing in 18 months, as long as you can keep the parts coming (engine,, avionics and finishing kit). Some of those pop rivet heads look a little...rough. Hope to see more of this project!
@JamesGood

Good eye. Yeah, we learned a lesson on those first rivets. I think they're safe, but a little rough looking. The ones since then are much neater!

Nice. Love the pop rivets. So much faster than the blind. And you might actually get the plane completed!! Haha (I had an RV6A)
Super cool news gentlemen. Looking forward to seeing the progress.
Great to meet ya at KTVL yesterday. Hope flight home wasn’t too rattling. Ill come down soon and check out your project!
Interesting choice, going straight to metal airplane for kids to build. I would imagine you're skipping some balsa & plywood RC planes before that?
@JamesGood
Жыл бұрын
Charles has built a few balsa models before (a Guillow F6F and Bf109). But it does seem largely like a big model kit, so far! kzread.info/dash/bejne/dZ-b2sSedZibj9I.html
Good luck. I enjoyed build my 6A. Wish I still had it.
Do you guys want to adopt me? Awesome idea guys!!
When this one is finished you'll need to arrange a meet-up with Steve from Flight Chops
Hey juan brown and James, Cyrus Thomas here, the I follow roads guy, I fly an rv-12 and would love to fly from Novato to your airport and give you rides in the plane and show you what I know about it, I am a rotax fan and I think I understand the engine well. let me know when you guys will be working at the hangar and I will come visit.

Good project to get kids involved with but not a fast project to get in the air.
Wow! Build safe! Lol Awesome project.
Since the wings fold it is possible to build “alot” of it in your garage if your close to the airport where you will fly it Expect about double the ($30,000) airframe kit cost for a final completed painted VFR airplane
@JamesGood
Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Tom. Yeah, we've considered bringing it home to my garage, move the MINI out and build in there. But for now, I think we're good in Juan's hangar. Will be interesting when we need to put the wings on though! We'll figure something out.
Hey! KDVO. I was based there with the A36 and C182 for years. Know that area very well. Worst x-winds around. Funny how so many “builders” quit after the tail section. Very common. We have a LOT of builders here. Some on their 2nd and 3rd build.

Ah, that's where you were based! The chap we bought it from completed another RV-12, just ran out of steam on this one I guess.
All the pop rivets in the vertical stabiliser spar need to be drilled out and replaced.
What An amazing thing to offer, I hope you can recruit kids who show interest that may not have common knowledge people in aviation or of airplanes. Good luck! Is there a way us common folk could contribute money to this project?

Vans' designs are superb and the kits seem straight forward. I look forward to your videos. In 1985 I saw an Ercoupe similar to yours for sale on the field at the then Vacaville Gliderport . The price was $7500, equal to almost $21,000 today. Could that have been your future plane?

Thanks! I don’t think it would have been n94805, I don’t remember seeing Vacaville as a home for it in the logs.
16 years? I may not have 16 years. :-(
Do you have a wish list of items you will need for the build?
James, can you ask the Novato guy if the 54 Plymouth Is available for sale?? Thank you.
