Bravo again, Starik! I hope people take the time to listen to everything John has to say here, because there are a lot of moments where he's speaking directly to his generation about important thought and action shifts that need to happen in order to support those of us following them.

Great interview, really enjoyed that. Good words about values that we are taking along with us. The way we see things, the way we interact with people... Not just rural customs our ancestors lived, but our life, today and now, this is what is all about.

How long does it take to edit this? Must've taken forever to insert questions, edit pauses, couldn't think of doing that myself LOL. Cheers from the East Coast 🍺

Yes. Story time. During one of the trips John and I took to Europe, a friend of mine here asked for a particular book (a trebnyk that had been published by the Society of St. John the Baptist - these are the Rusyn patriot Greek Catholic clergy and faithful in Slovakia). Said books were with a priest in a village, so we drove out. I had called ahead, because the worst thing is to get all the way out to some village and then the person you're looking for has decided that day to not be home for whatever reason. Anyway, all I did over the phone was inquire about the book and when I could pick it up. When John and I walked in, the priest was like, "oh are you John Righetti? I've seen you in the newspapers." or something like that. The story goes on from there, but the short answer is, yes.

@Dimitrij Fedorov I'm not an expert in this area and would be happy to defer to friends of mine who are. Of course, there are trebnyks in Church Slavonic - however the point is that, especially in a post-Vatican II Catholic Church, liturgy and practice should be in the language of the people, and so (especially according to the Society of St. John the Baptist, which is based in NE Slovakia) for Carpatho-Rusyns that is Rusyn, and Rusyn as legally codified in Slovakia. That organization has been undertaking huge amounts of translation to accomplish the task of providing these materials in Rusyn for the faithful who desire it.

He is wrong when he says most of EU states want Ukraine in the UE and thus the perspective for the Rusyns is such and such, actually there is big opposition to any EU expansion now and little to zero real (non-verbal) support for it and for various reasons that expansion is purely theroretical now,

Perhaps a topic of its own, but the church divisionin fascinating. Very familiar to Assyrians from what I've heard about them, no idea what the divide is though but some won't talk to the other. Maybe disapora communities have bigger problems with that.

www.c-rrc.org/product/our-people/ This whole book goes into the nitty gritty of the church divisions in America, and there's also some really interesting research being done by younger scholars now about how the Return to Orthodoxy movement in the European homeland was really fueled by the Carpatho-Rusyn American community at that time.
