I thought there couldn't be a better video of the restoration of a WW2 French sword (24 million views). But you've outdone yourself! Unbelievable, just unbelievable!

Suggestion. Why not dip the whole thing in epoxy resin. All those pits and holes could make for a cool effect.

My 7 year old and I look very your videos. He is on the autism spectrum and recently told me.he wants to fix old metal things. So we found an old rusty pipe wrench in our garage and we have started to slowly restore it. So far a good vinegar soak and some scrubbing with a wire brush. Hoping to work with him on it more this week. It's been great finding an interest he has through watching your channel and has given us another way to connect with him. ❤

The metal isn't turning white; it's turning the color of bare metal. It appears brighter because you see the contrast between the freshly sandblasted portions and the raw, rust pitted portions. Also, the deformations and crevices in the metal allow the grit to scour tiny scratches all over but it's not smooth enough to achieve a mirror polish so what you're left with is metal that's clean enough to reflect light evenly but not smooth enough to reflect it perfectly, if that makes sense. It happens with any metal item that's sandblasted. Of course, the media that is used also makes a difference.
@ivanmit3366
Ай бұрын
So does that mean that the sandblasting reveals true color of the metal? Does it change color pretty soon after with oxidation?
@mrblack5145
Ай бұрын
@ivanmit3366 oxidation varies upon the composition of the metal and the environment its in, but yes- that's why you see content creators applying oil to freshly blasted parts, to act as a moisture and oxygen barrier. The oil can easily be removed to apply the desired final finish.
@edwardsdarkmistress
Ай бұрын
I have additional question: with the holes in the knife, doesn’t mean the metal is compromised and could easily break?
@mrblack5145
Ай бұрын
@edwardsdarkmistress in a sense, yes; I'll admit I've not yet finished the video- because life happens- but unless he's hardened the metal or done something else to affect its structure, then it's obviously in a more brittle condition than when it was originally issued. That being said, it's very likely that this knife won't see anything remotely serious enough to stress the blade.
@MagistraNocte
Ай бұрын
I also guess that all the microscopic crevices and pits left from the rusting helps scattering light in a way that makes it white (it's not uncommon for porous materials to look bright/white)
Tysy was like, "Time to give shape to the blade" and I'm like, "What shape? What blade??" And it still came out looking amazing
He's back, and I hope he's here to stay because this is a good channel
The combination of rust pits, gold, and carbon fiber on the handle creates a stunning decorative piece that would look great on any shelf.

The handle is the best thing about the knife.
At first, I thought the whole thing would end up in your rust jar. A work of art, it turned out beautifully.
Everytime at the start of a restoration I think to myself. How do you even plan on fixing this? This is so beyond repair.

Besides the obvious expert craftsmanship, I am always stunned by the creativity of these works of art… how people get a picture in their mind of what COULD be versus what is.
YOU'RE BACK!!!! Sir, you were missed, seriously Also, as soon as I saw how crunchy that bayonet was with rust, I started clapping and screaming DUST RUST FOR THE KNIFE YESSSS
the slice test at the end was way better than expected!
That looks absolutely beautiful! I knew you'd be able to make that old blade shine again. Very well done.
At least you finally learned how to differentiate between a knife and a bayonet in the end tysy 😂

The end result is amazing!! I watch your videos because they are relaxing, but can't fall asleep to them - I'd miss the end result!!!
Not going to lie, I actually thought this was going to be the knife made from rust!!! But the jar is half full!!! Awesome job!!! ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very cool restoration - I really like the plating idea: the knife has so much character from all those interesting rust pits, but you don't want to to start rusting again. Plating is a great solution (and something different from cold blueing).
This should get a million views easily. Absolute masterpiece. Congratulations, my friend.
That jar stopping with label directly facing camera was 🔥
Great to see how much time and effort he puts into transforming something old into a work of art.
The jar slide for the “Rust Dust” near the beginning that perfectly landed on the label for the camera was great!👏🏻
Your videos will never put me to sleep but they satisfy me on another level of curiosity. I’m still waiting for my slice of pie…
Mmmmm more sand blasting. The final piece is stunning!!
How to transform a piece of rust into a true work of art, really really impressive and really really cool 🤩👍
