The commanders are willing to take the lives of their soldiers, but the soldiers aren't willing to take the lives of their commanders, and that's the problem. If they want to be free of the war, they know what needs to be done, either openly or discreetly. There's plenty of safe havens that await them as long as they lay down arms and accomplish this task.

That is a valid point, but in a lot of cases there are many human factors that play into not letting the fighters desert. For example, the commander could say that if one soldier desert, the rest of the squad will be punished. That would make most individuals not willing to leave their post. Plus, if a propaganda is well made, most people will assume that their brothers in arms are loyal to the country, or at least to the army. Sothey would assume that if they talked about deserting to the wrong person, it would end really badly. These two factors together makes an organised mutiny or desertion almost impossible unless it has the support of some kind of command. Source: idk

Reminds me of the courage of Alexei Navalny, the heroic billionaire who sits in a Russian prison because he had the raw courage to return to his homeland to fight for the cause of democracy. Edward Snowden is also a hero who possesses indescribable courage in calling out the National Security Agency for violating the constitutional rights of every American. Laws were changed because of his effort to expose illegal electronic eavesdropping by the American govt. Snowden enjoyed a near perfect life living on the Hawaiian island of Kuai with his beautiful wife. He had it made and could’ve gone on living in paradise. But he understood that our continued freedom depended on him blowing the whistle on what was proven to be criminal activity by the NSA! This Russian journalist should be pardoned immediately and released. But Putin is a bully who will not stop the wholesale slaughter of innocent Ukrainian men, women, and children! And look how Russians have changed now. It's just that the current Russian leadership were born in the Soviet Union. Putin was 39 years old when it collapsed.

Because they fell for the classic...".If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself". - Joesph Goebells Minister for information for the Nazi Party, sound familiar? and more.. Propaganda works best when those who are being manipulated are confident they are acting on their own free will. (Can I get a T?) There was no point in seeking to convert the intellectuals. For intellectuals would never be converted and would anyway always yield to the stronger, and this will always be "the man in the street." Arguments must therefore be crude, clear and forcible, and appeal to emotions and instincts, not the intellect. Truth was unimportant and entirely subordinate to tactics and psychology. Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play. This is the secret of propaganda: Those who are to be persuaded by it should be completely immersed in the ideas of the propaganda, without ever noticing that they are being immersed in it. There will come a day, when all the lies will collapse under their own weight, and truth will again triumph. (*Trump missed that one but he studied the others well) Not every item of news should be published. Rather must those who control news policies endeavor to make every item of news serve a certain purpose. The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over. It is the absolute right of the State to supervise the formation of public opinion. We enter parliament in order to supply ourselves, in the arsenal of democracy, with its own weapons. If democracy is so stupid as to give us free tickets and salaries for this bear's work, that is its affair. We do not come as friends, nor even as neutrals. We come as enemies. As the wolf bursts into the flock, so we come. It would not be impossible to prove with sufficient repetition and a psychological understanding of the people concerned that a square is in fact a circle. They are mere words, and words can be molded until they clothe ideas and disguise. The essence of propaganda consists in winning people over to an idea so sincerely, so vitally, that in the end they succumb to it utterly and can never escape from it. (Trump anyone?) We shall reach our goal, when we have the power to laugh as we destroy, as we smash, whatever was sacred to us as tradition, as education, and as human affection. If you tell a lie long enough, it becomes the truth. (You don't say?!) Whoever can conquer the street will one day conquer the state, for every form of power politics and any dictatorship-run state has its roots in the street. The English follow the principle that when one lies, it should be a big lie, and one should stick to it. The masses need something that will give them a thrill of horror. We shall go down in history as the greatest statesmen of all time,or as the greatest criminals (Def top of the charts, close to Stalin , Idi Amin etc) Every age that has historical status is governed by aristocracies.Aristocracy with the meaning - the best are ruling.Peoples do never govern themselves. That lunacy was concocted by liberalism (or in today's U.S. case republicanism). Behind its people's sovereignty the slyest cheaters are hiding, who don't want to be recognized. There is no need for propaganda to be rich in intellectual content. In the newspapers there is insulting and stirring up hatred. Those irresponsible daubers! www.azquotes.com/author/5626-Joseph_Goebbels

During WWII Soviet Commissars were posted behind front line troops and shot them in the back if they refused to advance against the Germans. Soviet Russian losses far exceeded that of the Germans. They only managed to prevail because the Russian population was far larger than the German.

Mercenaries are not under the Geneva Convention. Wagner Group mercenaries, recruited from the prisons, are kept on the front lines until they are dead. That way, Wagner group doesn't have to pay the families, because they say the mercenaries are MIA. That also happens in the regular Russian military as well.

Yes. And often they don't even need to use the MIA card - majority of prisoners in russia are quite socially isolated and don't keep close contacts with anyone outside the jail. Maksim Katz says it's up to 70% of wagner mercenaries than when asked who should receive the money after their death - they just can't. Even if they come up with a name - they don't know the phone number. Those names are "recorded" on some "piece of paper" that is surely thrown away later. But knowing russian mentality - that money will be paid out - it will be shared between some commander and the official responsible for giving that money out. And wagnerites will just die.

are Russians so deeply programmed they don’t question why so many people who question Putin up commuting self murder or in prison? After he took power any oligarchs who questioned anything he did ended up with dates that ranged from becoming penniless and in prison after sham trials and convictions to walking out windows. Even if you’re not that bright, doesn’t that pattern seems odd after the 10th is so time?
