The creation of these female battalions is sad in hindsight. They were created as a way for the Provisional Russian Republican Government to continue the fight against the Central Powers whom they felt a victory, any victory for that matter, would help cement their legitimacy as the sole Russian government. They failed in that and the Bolsheviks one-up them by biting the bullet and signing the Treaty of Brest-Livtosk that (temporarily) lose them some of their European territory for some peace and popular support, allowing them to focus on defeating the Whites and those opposing Bolshevik control...

The fact that they are based on the 1891 model is already good enough for this. I take offense if a film set in WW1 based on the British army makes use of No. 1 Mk. 4 Enfield rifles instead of SMLE's...

91/30's are far cheaper and more plentiful than original M1891's, few would even notice the difference from afar. Most of the M16's you see in Vietnam movies are later models that are mocked up.

Gentlemen and Gentleladies - I am a Veteran (USA), I lost three relatives fighting fascists in WW 2 (Nazis & Japanese); can someone from the former Soviet Union or Russia explain to me what the context of this confrontation is? I was trained to "fight" communism in the old "Cold War" way of thinking. In the nineties, I met fellow officers from the Soviet Navy in a "peace offering gathering" in Norfolk, VA. I was "shocked" to meet these highly educated professionals that had families, relatives, ... just like me/us. They were protecting their fatherland with the same spirit and devotion than we did. They suffered the same (or similar) tragedies in the previous WW II conflict... Forgive my "innocence" of "naive" way of thinking - for years, I had been taught that "they" were the "bad guys/girls" while in perspective, they were humans just like me ... with families, relatives, religion, allegiance, country loyalty, ..., just like us. May God help us all, and I hope that one day..., just one day, we bury the hatchet and find ourselves for who we really are... fellow human beings. Peace be with you all, Ciao, L (USN, USA).

@@VonTurtle8282 BRO, this is a real case during the First World War! If it's not difficult for you, read the Wiki. The Russian Empire was so fucked up that they really had to create a women's fucking battalion! There are a lot of cranberries in Russian cinema (Cranberries are an idiomatic expression denoting fictions, false stereotypes, distorted ideas, absurd and ridiculous inventions. The expression is usually used in a sarcastic and ironic sense, most often about the speculation among foreigners about Russia and Russians: about life, culture, history, language, etc. The idiom contains an oxymoron, which consists in the fact that a low-growing cranberry bush creeping along the ground cannot be spread out in any way.) And you and your "Enemy at the gate" are no better! You filmed the bullshit about one rifle for three! It's better to watch real good movies: "Brest Fortress", "28 Panfilovites", "Soldier Boy" about the youngest soldier, I can't name more, because they make films about the war so badly in Russia... I can only name the Soviet ones: "They fought for the Motherland", "The battalion asks for fire", "Go and fight" (It is highly not recommended to watch for people with very bad mentality!!!)
