someone should tell these film makers the german tanks had machine guns and used to hammer the trench line plus the germans had mortar teams who would set up the tubes quickly and start plastering defences as soon as they opened up, for the first 3 years the germans were virtually unbeatable

3:14 minute of the movie - we can clearly see that this is a radio-controlled model - it is so light that it is not able to apply adequate pressure to the ground. In this movie, a lot of models were used. But despite the fact that we can still see that it is only a model and not a real tank, it still looks more realistic than CGI, which is often exaggerated to the point of absurdity, such as in the movie "T-34". The model is just a model, not a real tank - but still at least literally physical and not artificial like the CGI. Well done to the creators! Other makers should follow an example. Viewers are already overloaded with artificial exaggerated and brought to the limit of absurd computer graphics - we prefer something realistic! :)

My reaction to this film is positive, I don't avoid constructive criticism, but I emphasize its good points. I definitely prefer models rather than exaggerated to the point of absurd CGI. The Matrix is a good sci-fi movie, Star Wars is also spectacular, but squeezing such effects into war movies is a failure. Even movies like Tora Tora Tora (1970), where there are models (and real planes) is 10x better than modern movies like Midway (2019) or T-34 (2019). Not to mention the legendary Battle of Britain (1969) or Liberation "Освобождение" (1970), where there are real planes and tanks, even gems such as real German Panther, StuG III, Hetzer and original anti-aircraft guns and artillery, due to the fact that after WWII a lot of this equipment remained in Czechoslovakia. I don't know what budget and possibilities the filmmakers of the Panfilov's 28 had, but they did better job than many biggest high-budget studies, which by taking the CGI level to the point of absurdity, destroyed their own movies. The fact that sometimes you can see that this is a model and not a real tank is only a statement of an obvious fact, but after what the creators have shown, with some more possiblities they will certainly refine the technique, and we can expect even better movies to come:)

I was in the army but I was never in the front. Guys who got the Bronze Star in general never want to talk about it. That is the ones from Viet Nam. On the other hand in most cases infantry guys from WW 2 talked about their experiences in a matter of fact way and told it the way it happened. One WW 2 vet said that when he pulled the pin on the grenade, he had to wait a couple of seconds to let the timer run down. He said Germans were very gifted at picking up grenades thrown at them and throwing it back from where it came from. He said that they would aim high for an area so that the falling flak from the grenade would cause casualties. One Vet told me that in the film "It's a Wonderful Life", George Bailey was 4F because he couldn't hear in one ear. He told me that in 1940 he was called down to the draft board and was deferred because he had a problem with one of his arms and he could barely hear in one of his ears. He had a really good job in a factory at the time. Than in early 1942 they called him back to the draft board and they checked him out again and told him that they would put him in the artillery because "with the bad ear, what difference would it make and if he could work on the line in the factory with his arm, he'll do just fine in the army." I asked him even though he had those problems they still put him in. In his own words, "That was World War 2. Back then, if you were breathing you were going." He was in France 2 days after Normandy and had to battle the Germans in France as an infantry man. His unit along with others came into Holland. He said the Dutch people were glad to see them but they kept their distance because the soldiers had not bathed for a few days. So what the people did was, each family would invite a soldier into their home and let him wash up. Food there at the time there was not in full supply. The soldiers reciprocated by giving the people what they had saved from their C Rats, or things like cigarettes which all was highly valued. I would never embellish anything or make up a story up how I served and fought in the infantry. Wise not to pretend being a combat Vet nowadays. With the internet it's easy to it check out.

I think it's an interesting difference between vets from Vietnam and those from WWII. Those from WWII had a clear goal and enemy. The people at home knew it and they knew what they're fighting for. In their own eyes it justifies their actions. Those in Vietnam had many doubts as to why they were there, people at home thought the same so there wasn't any heroes welcome. The veterans felt confused and eventually it came down to getting all back home again for them.

@@wojtek1582 The HE fillings of the Tiger 1s 8.8 and the Panzer 4s 7.5 cm are still comparatively close, so i assume they had a similiar effect on infantry. Only the Tigers far scarier appearance (engine noise, muzzle flash, firing pressure and size) and muzzle velocity, so far less time seing the shell coming will certainly make this a far different "experience" to soldiers

You dont have to fully cycle a PTRD (the big anti tank rifle) because the action automatically cycle backward when you fire and eject the spent case. But you have to put in a new live round and close the bolt manualy... So it is not really accurate...
