Russell Simmons breaks silence on allegations

Ойын-сауық

Russell Simmons breaks his silence on the sexual assault allegations made against him. While admitting to being involved in “compromising situations,” as well as being insensitive at times, the music mogul denies accusations of ever being violent, unconsenting or forceful. He also goes on to express support for the Me Too movement, addresses Oprah’s departure from the film 'On The Record' and discusses the notion of a “gray area.”

As an older guy, the definition has changed along with sexual assault. Now there is little tolerance for actions that was once deemed socially acceptable. Also, there is a bigger gray area with consent. Consent is very fluid. It’s very complex now and I’m glad I’m not a young man or woman trying to navigate dating, mating, and marriage in today’s culture.

The legal definition of "rape" has certainly changed since the 80's and early 90"s. Because "coercion" now exist as a factor. As in years past rape in the 1st degree simply constituted "forcible penetration." A good example is a intoxication individual. Today within several States, if a woman can prove she was impaired (drunk) prior to intercourse "consent" cannot be given. This definitely was not the case in the 80's and early 90's. Its was simply a life lesson for the women to make better decisions when out drinking.

I think that Russell is actually admitting in so many words to what he did with phrases like "it was a different time", "it was never my intent," "nobody told me, "it was hip hop", and "I can't change the past." In so many words, he also admitted to being egotistical in the past and made references that he has evolved significantly. He is clearly not comfortable with the demonizing aspect of his actions. I would have thought he'd have gotten the written reports of his lie detector tests by the way.

You don't marry him. You don't keep dating him. You don't birth his children. You don't continue to sleep with him. Kimora is responsible for her decisions. I'm not gonna feel sorry for anyone who continually puts themselves in the position to be abused. She now has four kids by three different guys. I don't trust that she makes wise decisions when it comes to romantic partners. Two of her kids get to enjoy the highly possible trauma that comes from being in a broken family. We also know some women throw themselves at rich and famous men, some I imagine want to simply sleep with them but others hope to get in a relationship, we also know some women will try to trap a rich man with a baby all for the chance of a bit check each month! Knowing how cold a man can be after he gets what he wants, I can imagine a women could feel as if they were violated in ways they weren't, especially if during the act certain things happened. Whether it be for money, fame, to make themselves feel better about giving their body away so easily to someone who used it like a toy or to be vindictive, I can see how claims that aren't true are said. I want to make this clear I do not have an opinion either way about this case, I just want to suggest what I have come to realise after many years of false claims being brought up. Ultimately men in such positions should refrain from sleeping with anyone who offers it to them, it should be a special act not something you do in the nearest cupboard and then go about your day. Russell came up in a different world, anyone acting like this today should expect allegations to happen without doubt!

I agree that they COULD be lying and maybe they felt slutty after being in a 4some but when a man is honest and treats a women with respect and dignity they are not often accused of rape. I think he probably was just a POS and cursed them out the way he cursed out his own daughters or made him feel like trash, and I think he probably did write one or two of them. I could see that happening. But the bottom line is he started dating Kimora when he was 35 and she was a 15 year sophomore in high school so I'm looking at him through 1/2 closed eye.

And even when they are done, look up how high the percentage is of kits that are lost, contaminated, or left on the shelves for years by police departments. So again, it's not only difficult for victims to go through the process, but even if they do, there's still a lot of grey area that exists.
