Crowe is right on the money totally not fair. When Australians go to New Zealand they're are treated as a NZ citizen they have access to our benefits and tertiary education, which is why Australians that actually move to New Zealand love it

So who is in a better position to afford it? It's not Australia. I have met and I have known many Kiwis in my life and when they work they send the majority of money back to NZ and hardly anything spent in OZ. That's one of the reasons Howard changed the laws because it wasn't beneficial to the country they were working in. AND the Aussie dollar was worth way much more to the Kiwi dollar so they were cleaning up.It didn't matter they were paying taxes either because the rate was only 15% back then and now the first $20,000 is tax free so they would be still winning.

Joseph JosephJoseph. My partner is Maori and he gets free health care. Got a car loan easily. Is currently doing an apprenticeship. Everything I can do as an Australian citizen he has been able to do to, without hassle. He's father also has had multiple hospitals stays and op's(he's has had cancer twice) and has never paid a cent for any of it, and he's sister gets Centrelink.

Australia's deportation rules are really stern as well, cause problems, break the law, or get into massive trouble, and there's a high chance that your gone, back to your home country. New Zealanders make up a large amount of people deported from Australia, I know of one, he was born in Auckland, eventually left for Australia, was married to an Australian woman, had kid's, 20 years after he left New Zealand, he was back here own his own, left without a choice but to start all over again from scratch, He and his wife were both on drugs, and start fighting, ended really badly, his wife ended up in hospital, he was jailed, and after he served his time, he was sent back here to New Zealand, he struggled to get used to Auckland again because it looked dramatically different from when he left,

He's half right or at least didn't provide specifics ..yes kiwis have access to tertiary, however kiwi students can pay 3-4x the cost for tertiary education than an Australian, even tho Aussies in NZ are granted the exact same status as a kiwi. Kiwis do get access to healthcare in AU however some services like mental health or disabilities for example are not covered by Medicare for kiwis, yet in NZ Aussies get full benefits they're even covered under ACC for injuries.

Im a New Zealander living in Australia and am not a citizen. I have been treated in a public hospital when involved in a car accident. I had a c section in a public hospital when my son was born. Ive been treated several times in a public hospital through their emergency department and ive had medical treatment from different GP's for 23 years. It cost me NOTHING. Why? Because I have a Medicare card. Something almost EVERYONE in Australia is entitled to. Ive received free dental work as well over the years. Ive been entitled to Government benefits (welfare) and ive even received it too. I have access to Tertiary studies. It costs a small fortune but i still have access. I don't know what you are talking about Mr Crowe.

So you've been here since 1996?The laws were changed in 2002!!!! If you've got access to these then good on ya, but most of us don't. I have a medicare card but it don't do Shit unless I'm using it as part of my 100 points of I D. I'm on medication for the rest of my life at about $200 a month. There are discount cards out there which could heavily reduce meds or make some free but I can't get the card unless I've been on a Centerlink benefit for a year, but I can't get a benefit because guess what,I'm a New Zealander. Of course there is free medical help in public hospitals but for my other medical costs and unless you get refered by a specialist, which costs $300 I had to pay the full price or health insurance, when I could afford some. Automatic Permanant residence may have been easy to get in 1996 but not in 2019. You've got to have been in the country ,at least 5 years and have been working for those 5 years non stop. But if you took time off to take care of kids,or get sick or injured then you've gotta start all over. And since then the law has changed to being eligible only if you arrived after February 2016 and you have to be earning $58,000 every year for 5 years. And there's a health screening as well so if you have any health issues you will probably never get in the country let alone apply for permanent residence. And of course there's free education for the kids until 18 but you have to pay full course fees for further learning and kiwi's have no access to any sort of assistance.Besides that if you have the money to pay then chances are you'll never get to the course you want because most have limits on how many foreigners they will allow to study. You been away from home way too long.

My mum came to Australia from New Zealand in the late 60's as a 17 year old, lived there up until she died in 2013 (she's buried in NZ). Never even looked at Australian citizenship, didn't make sense at the time. My uncles that came over though at the same time she did, both now have Australian citizenship. Oddly enough, my sister has NZ citizenship, having lived there nearly 30 years, process was much easier there. Me personally, I have dual Australian and Italian citizenship (my dad was from italy).

according to this website Kiwis must have lived in Oz for 6 months to get a medicare card. www.humanservices.gov.au/individuals/enablers/who-can-get-medicare-card#NewZealandcitizen - So no need to even take out citizenship. When my mom passes, I intend to sell her home and use the money to hire an immigration lawyer to do whatever it takes to get Canadian or British citizenship. The United States is an insanely cruel country that is bottom of the barrel in all things good: an indefensible profit-based healthcare model that ranks 36th in cost, access, and outcomes, a ranking of 27 and falling in upward mobility, the lowest minimum wage by far of any advanced country, the highest level of childhood poverty at 32% and rising, the largest incarceration rate in the world due to corrupt and overzealous law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges, prescription drugs that on average cost four times what they do in all other advanced countries due to those countries regulating prices. And now we see the rise of fascism where it is not a question of "if" but "when."

Another example of Australia (or NZ) claiming someone or something that isn't really *theirs* . The Kiwi/Aussie/UK/US often-paranoid rivalry is quite comical and sometimes just pathetic. Easy wind-up in a cross-national drinking session, just say that Mel Gibson isn't Australian or Pavlova was invented in New Zealand or that Everest wasn't first summited by a Kiwi. LOL Ha Ha Ha, etc.

esther19741974 your delusional! What free education??medical care very minimal at best and now flood relief is unavailable to kiwis also, our children and grandchildren suffer just as much yours but people like you convince yourselves that we like whining about nothing because its easier for you to deal with than to admit that your laws are unjust. Furthermore, if complaining about paying taxes for services we or our children will never be able to access, or student loans etc etc etc, is classed as whining then try putting yourself in our shoes for a week. It'll do your bloody head in. According to one of your popular belief's, we are also bludgers, WRONG!!!we have to work to live and to provide, yet I see time and time again on the telly , real whingers, whining about benefit cuts (only a few $$)/No work out there (bs) or that we have taken them (89% accurate) employers only hire kiwis cos they no we have to work so will work harder to keep our jobs ,unfortunately a lot of unfair treatment there too (not whining either, just stating the fact but call it what you want). Rant over. Peace, harmony and Equality to all.
