Yes, that was “Paint it Black” at the start of the song. Not sure if you got the background of this performance from the folks requesting it but this was referred to as “SARSstock”, a benefit concert in July 2003 after the SARS epidemic (COVID is basically SARS 2), headlined by The Stones and with lots of other bands. Rush, obviously, and AC/DC, The Guess Who, Blue Rodeo, etc. It was the biggest concert in Canadian history with between 450,000 and 500,000 in attendance! What you're experiencing is likely the three best friends who ever made music. They had the ultimate respect and love for each other and because of that, they ALWAYS had fun! Sadly, we can no longer experience it live, but oh, when we could! Neil would never go up front for a bow, but ran off stage, as they show, while Geddy and Alex said goodbye to the crowd. At the very last show they ever did, he came up front for his final goodbyes ever. There is video of it, he surprised Geddy and Alex by tapping them on the shoulders and all three took a bow together before he zipped off as usual. I seriously have so much fun watching you watch them and reliving my love for them. I'm gonna say it again ... XANADU from Exit Stage Left. Best live performance EVER!

Rush is my favorite band of all time. I recognized you from The Warning reactions. (My favorite newer band) Rush are the reason I play music. I could only ever hope to be a fraction of a musician of either of these three. YYZ in Rio is probably one of the most epic moments I've ever witnessed from a concert. Brazil brings energy unlike anyone I've ever witnessed. Alex plays a PRS guitar here which, are my personal favorite. (I prefer him on Gibson guitars though) I grew up 30 mins from the PRS factory. So I have an obligation to love seeing famous bands playing them haha.(Dany Villarreal plays one often too) On the topic of the ending, I also feel bad for anyone that had to follow Rush AFTER they played. Though I know AC/DC did well. Somehow I wasn't subscribed. I've since corrected that error.😅Take care!

Rockstars who never lost their way into drugs and relationship drama. Amazing band and gentlemen.
The Rolling Stones lent their big show expertise to help with this festival and were one of the headliners. Charlie Watt introduced himself to Neil just before Rush went on stage and was watching from backstage, along with members of AC/DC and a few other Rush fans. The organizers issued 480,000 tickets but no one is actually certain how many people showed up at the old Downsview Airport that day. In my office, 12 of the 30 employees drove down from Ottawa to Toronto for the day, which was a Wednesday, and didn't get back home until between 3 and 4 am. Only one of them showed up at work on Thursday, because she had to make a presentation that afternoon.
Awesome reaction! They certainly do not disappoint. Red Barchetta is an amazing song with a captivating story. Good one to check out.

Check out Reds' other Rush reactions now and let us know if your opinion changes .
Ok, this one is MASSIVE. One of their most famous live performances. It’s the song YYZ from RUSH in RIO. They had never toured South America and those hardcore Rock fans had been literally waiting their whole lives to see the band they thought they might never see in their country. It’s bananas and they impressed the band! It’s truly very cool for us lifelong fans to see because we can really relate to the live concert experience. RUSH Night was always very special. I grew up with them from the beginning and they played my city on almost every single tour. That’s how I got to see them live on 18 different tours over the decades. I case you’re wondering, San Antonio, TEXAS a day one RUSH stronghold that the band loved. They said it many times that they liked the city and not just the fans. We were one of the very first places in North America to play them on the radio in the beginning and the band never forgot that day one loyalty. It was a SCENE! I’ve got stories for days. 😆👍
After the grind of Hemispheres that tested the bands musical limits, Permanent Waves was how they chose to relax. Spirit Of Radio is Rush throttling it back. 😊
This actually came up for me in my search for Aurora reactions, but I love Rush too, and this is one of my favorite songs by them. Not sure I have a favorite version, but the music video is crazy good, as is the version they did for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, when they were inducted. (This is also a great version too, of course.) But speaking of Aurora, you should check out her newest song, "A Soul with No King - Remix" - a precursor to her new album out on June 7th!
The "Paint It Black" intro was done because this video is from the Concert for Canada SARS benefit in around 2007. It was a multi-headlining show, but the Rolling Stones were the main attraction. Rush nearly wasn't involved but felt they more or less had to do it. I think they had just come off of a tour and were in more or less shut-down mode for a break. They had to fire the whole machine up for a 4 song set in front of like 400,000 people.

Having seen Rush preforming live over 35 times. I can tell you the energy and guys having fun is/was very real. I never saw a Rush concert where I felt they were just trying to get through it. Personally I believe they learned from opening for KISS . That the band is there to give the people a performance worthy of the time and money the spent.

That was an amazing day. Me, my gf, and 500,000 of our friends.
Love your enthusiasm to my favorite band of all time, they are so great in concert it's sad it can never be again, but I spent most of my life waiting for "the next tour" eagerly, from my first show when I was 18 as a birthday present from my parents, to the last 2 tours with my own wife and child in my lat 40s to share an experience I'd gotten to enjoy throughout my life (fell in love with Rush in roughly 3rd grade, when Moving Pictures came out and my older friends (lived in a tiny country town) started playing it and I was hooked immediately.
My favorite band since 1979 (I was 12), so I feel emotionally connected to them. lol. They know how much their fans love them, but they're humble. They must love us too- listen to their music they gave us. There are a lot of great videos out there to show how funny & goofy they are. They truly are icons. I agree with the "Xanadu" suggestions from the Exit Stage Left album. Here is when they got inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (finally). kzread.info/dash/bejne/kX-A17uRhJm3fbg.html
Usually, when I note that I attended the very concert the reactor is watching, I can expect only one or two to write "me too!" Given how the crowd size was estimated at 450,000 on that hot and sunny day - frying like eggs on the old tarmac that had formerly served Canadian Forces Base Downsview - I imagine that I won't be the only one mentioning that I was there to see/hear it in person. PS - Fun fact: our recent, global pandemic was caused by the spread of SARS-COVID-2. This concert was held to boost tourism in Toronto, which had been hit by the deadly (but less transmissible) SARS-COVID-1.

From a Gary to Geddy your one of the most talented musician of all time! No one touches your talent on bass, keyboards, and singing! You are the definition of Unique and RUSH is not RUSH without your playing and vocals! To quote the movie: I LOVE YOU MAN! Alex and Neil as well!! This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy! RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary Geddy Lee - Bass guitars, Oberheim polyphonic; OB-X; Mini-Moog; and Taurus pedal Synthesizers, vocals Alex Lifeson - Six and twelve string electric and acoustic guitars, Taurus Pedals Neil Peart - Drums kit, timbales, gong bass drums, orchestra bells, glockenspiel, wind chimes, bell tree, tubular bells, crotales, cowbells, plywood, wood blocks, triangles, tympani, and Gong! Alex Lifeson: RUSH guitarist and Guru Extraordinaire! The HEART ❤️ AND SOUL OF RUSH! THE FUNNIEST MAN ON THE PLANET AND GREATEST SPEECH GIVER OF ALL TIME!!! ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME: BLAH…BLAH…BLAH! HATS 🎩 OFF TO ALEX LIFESON 😎😎😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎸🎸🎸 We lost Neil Peart on January 7th 2020 to brain cancer! Geddy Lee called him: THE PROFESSOR because he had a verbal and musical vocabulary that I would put against anyone including Beethoven and Albert Einstein all this from a guy who didn’t graduate high school! Not only was he the drummer-percussionist of RUSH but he also wrote the Lyrics! RIP PROFESSOR

Surely among the best rock drummers. "Best drummer" is of course subjective and varies based on personal preferences, genres, technical abilities, and musical contributions. Music is a diverse and subjective art and different drummers resonate with different audiences for various reasons. Some modern day greats are Aron Mellergårdh, Luis Cole, Larnell Lewis...

Blessed to have seen these guys over 10 times live and yeah, that energy... so contagious... always a great time at a Rush show!
Welcome to the RUSH rabbit hole!! Enjoy the journey!!
All right my lovely lady... I really needed this pick me up. This is my first time viewing your channel. Although I've seen this band, your joyful attitude and expression... I just fell like with you. What a fantastic reaction ‼️💯🔥🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Love your Rush reactions! Going to second Xanadu from the Exit Stage Left tour, 1981. Also, so many others to do: 2112 for sure (but that'll be a long video), Red Barchetta, La Villa Strangiato, Freewill, Natural Science, The Camera Eye, Limelight, Subdivisions.
what a band this footage gives me chills. The talent these guys have is off the charts. RIP Professor
