Rupes Bigfoot/Griot's Boss Polisher Comparison
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I had a chance to use the Griot's G21. I had bunch of people over at once, so I didn't do my normal deep dive, but I think there is some decent detail in this one.

great video matt I am glad you are open-minded in trying new products great job keep them coming
Matt: Your best video yet. As a fellow Griots guy early on, I loved seeing the Rupes vs. Griots comparison. Showing more than one brand (whatever the product) and comparing them helps those of us in the market, vs. seeing just one choice from you or someone else. Nicely done.

Thanks man!
I’ve owned several polishers from both companies, and while I do like the overall feel of the Rupes machines slightly better, the difference between them is so minimal and doesn’t effect performance that I can’t justify spending more for the Rupes. Especially since the Rupes only come with a 12 month warranty that just covers original manufacturing defects. The Griot’s ones come with a lifetime warranty where they will either repair it, replace it, or give you your money back.

what kind of warranty does ( Adams) ( Maxshine ) and ( Chemicalguys ) carries ?
I use a lot of the Griots compounds and really like them. Use them on a lot of my 2 stage stuff. For Griots BOSS vs Rupes I prefer Rupes, but my business partner likes the BOSS. They are pretty close in every way, minus the exterior looks. I know people have issues with BOSS, but I know many that have gone through Rupes too. Our iBirds are on their third one as they seem to not last very long. I really like how he stated it is preference, as that is what it is. No machine is better than the other. It all comes down to technique.
The Das6 Pro Plus is very smooth as well, I love how well it is balanced!!!!
Thanks for the great tips again Matt
Truly glad this was not a one sided. I love this and hate that. video. nice job. I subbed
Next level auto detail !!!!...team boss for sure!!!...love that dam machine and the whole system in general
griots actually allows you to swap the g21 to a 5" backing plate. you can get the best of both worlds with 6" or 5". its great for some people who can only get 1 machine. griots includes washer mod too. that being said... i still grab my 15mark2 first due to the smoothness over the griots
Matt love the vids. You should do a detailing vid/tutorial of a 10 year old car with swirls and scratches. Teaching us normal folks how to bring back our cars after years of daily driving.

Jeremy Posey This would be awesome. I have been watching detailing videos from the side lines as I have a lot of swirls on my black car. A series starting with a broad overview of the process/tools/products used and then follow up vids that go in depth of each step would be great and take the intimidation out of it

I'm sure I'll do it at some point. I have my hands full with my own cars. The Raptor needs done.
I have the LHR21ES and I feel like it's one of the best orbital polishers I've used so far. I just finished polishing my ML63 earlier and the finish on my designo cashmere white is just spectacular. I like your channel and your GT3 is beautiful!!!

One thing I don't understand is how does a guy like you have a channel with less than 1,000,000? You deserve way more than you have👍🏻

Oh man... I think it has a lot to do with me not appealing to the average person.
I detail cars professionally and have for 35 years. I own both a BOSS 21 and Rupes 21. My Rupes machine quit after one year, what a joke.When it worked, I loved it. I have yet to use the BOSS, but at close to $400, it better put out. I'll be on the phone to Richard if it doesn't. I spend a ton of money with his company.

Update on the griots?
What was that compound he was saying is the best? Also you said that you can't stand M105 and M205 so what is your go to combo? I love the meguiars stuff but that's just me but I'm always open to trying new stuff... also i like to use D300 over m105 tho

Joe like Griot's Fast Correcting Creme. I like Jescar Correction Compound and Sonax Perfect Finish.
What would be the best polisher thats not to expensive for a black car with pads, etc...really love your videos watched all of them, very informative really would like if you had some type of black car washing tips, and stuff! Great stuff man love it.

Griot's 6"
Great video matt i was looking at one of the 15mm throw polishers for christmas ,here in the uk we have a das 6 pro plus which is a copy of the griots but also have the flex 3401 as another option.Have you had chance to try a flex 3401 at all as its a forced rotation da and was just wondering your thoughts .
@ObsessedGarage

I prefer the finesse of a DA versus forced rotation.

thanks for your reply matt
The G9 gets way more correction done than the Mark 3 , ask me how I know. I have both and used them both today. Even used the TAC Systems aluminum backing plate. Stalls a lot tho it does feel much smoother the G9 out performs it on contoured panels. It vibrates more but if you’ve used any power tool in your life it won’t bother you. The Rupes is not the top dog in polishers.
Quick question Matt, are you going to do an audio upgrade on the GT350?
@ObsessedGarage
7 жыл бұрын
I probably will.
get the good handle plus the quality and get the flex. best of both worlds. just my .02
Just re-watched this video because I want to buy a Rupes right now. Do you think the mk2 is worth the extra $100 if I am not doing this professionally?
@ObsessedGarage

Professionally, yes.
The g21 is nice but it's a maxshine/shurehold for nearly $200 more.
Are yellows like that too, where you can't see the scratches?

No, yellow is pretty easy to see.

Matt, do you have any recommendation for an on a budget polisher? I have gotten into detailing my families cars (they are nothing crazy, Ford Fusions and such), but i'd like to start doing this to give them a little more TLC. I have recently found your videos and have become inspired to increase my arsenal of products. I however don't have the ability to drop $300-$400 on the best Rupes or Griots polisher. Thanks!

Hey Matt, great video. It's always nice testing new products with an open mind. How come don't you like the 105 and 205 ? Seemed kind of weird, given their results and easy wiping-off compared to menzerna, which i also love, however i wish they could be wiped off more easily. Cheers Mike
@iagonm_
7 жыл бұрын
MichailDoc, here in Brazil Menzerna is far more popular that Meguiars at compounds, 105 and 205 are really known as compounds that mask too much the results of your job, i've never tested it myself, but that is what I always hear.
@MichailDoc
7 жыл бұрын
Iago Maciél hello there. From my experience, they don't mask your work. They can leave a serious haze sometimes, especially the 105, which can come off with either the 205, or with other methods. Menzerna is also well known in Greece, and they both are equally respected. Just comes down to personal preferences and applications I guess. Cheers

This was Correcting Creme. On the white car it finished so nicely that we just used the single step. You could obviously follow with Perfecting Creme is your car has some color.

Obsessed Garage thanks for the input any clue if you can achieve similiar results with a variable speed rotary buffer? As in only using just the one product? I would imagine results should be similiar.. thanks again
@ObsessedGarage
7 жыл бұрын
Rotary requires a whole lot more skill than a DA, and you run the risk of burning through the clear coat. Plus you'd typically want to follow a rotary with a DA to remove the holograms and pig tails that the wool pad usually leaves behind.
@ndavis459
7 жыл бұрын
Obsessed Garage I've been using my Rotary for about 10 years debating on spending the money a Rupes DA if it will make life easier for me while achieving the same or better results. thanks for the info I appreciate it alot. looking forward to your podcast with Larry.
@ObsessedGarage
7 жыл бұрын
The Rotary in the right hands can certainly do the job but it's like using 1000 hp Supra to go around a road course. In the right hands, you can get around it pretty fast. It you get it right and don't die, that thing might get to the finish line faster. The Rupes DA is more like a GT3 RS that is purpose built to and can be safer and at times more effective.
Now make a video comparing the Rupes to the Flex
Rupes is the way to go
I can only say , wait till May when their (Rupes) polisher comes out..... u don't need to Use your finger use the Claw..😂 priming your pad!
We have the Chinese versions of the Rupes at detailing retailers in the UK. They may come in different colour plastics etc but still the same Chinese machine underneath. They are half the price of the Rupes and so makes sense if you’re on a budget. For the tiny saving of the Griots over the Rupes, there’s no point at all.
@ObsessedGarage
6 жыл бұрын
The Chinese ones are junk. For me it's Griot's or RUPES.
@Audittr2108

I went with Rupes. Haven’t looked back. In fact it was this video just over a year ago that played a part in that decision!
I have 1 car to do...my '12 Ram 1500...I want the buffing/waxing scratches out. So....I want to go cheap and good. I'll probably get the stock Griots 6" Orbital for $149. Exactly what pads do I need and what compound/polish should I use? Thanks.
@ObsessedGarage

I'm not really the guy to ask about cheap, but I'd probably use the Griot's system if I were in your shoes.

If you just want something for your own vechile, go harbor freight 6in da. People will have a stroke that I said that but go look at some reviews on it from professionals, for 50 bucks you can't beat it. You will just want to buy quality pads and backing plate.do not use harbor freights acesories. But the machine itself paired with griots or lake country acesories will do more than you need for you own personal truck. For the price it's a no brainer. Like I said watch the reviews there is some professionals on here that break it down. Dallas paint correction does a good review.
try the new FLEX 15MM
i hate the trigger on the rupes and it needs a bigger motor...

I don't use M105 anymore either. M100 is much bettwr, but can still clog up a Rupes microfiber pad. M205 on the yellow microfiber , and foam is awesome. The trick for maximum gloss finish polishing is to short cycle the M205. For finishing I'm doing two passes max. Todd Helme did a write up "Getting the most out of M205" or something like that on Autopia. I usually stick to Rupes gels, and pads though. Great video though! Joe is one of my favorite detailers out there!
Griots improved Rupes Mk1, but Mk2 Rupes is the best! ;)
I do love all my Rupes. I sold my old Griots when I got them and have never looked back. The slow start does take getting used to but I don't notice it much anymore. It's good to do comparisons though every now and again to either confirm your still love what your using or to open your eyes to something better.

Matt - have you looked at Festool polishers? Either the Rotex or the Shinex? They have a very strong sander business and a lot of automotive clients using both sanders and polishers. I've been using a Rotex 3" and 6" as a hobbiest for a few years and have been happy with both. They also have a 5" unit. Great videos and thanks for taking the time to go into detail. No pun intended! Excellent work!

Yeah thats true. Youre mostly doing your own newer cars. The flex is more efficent for heavier defects. I wouldnt buy a rupes, I mean i dont like the italian mentaly about their products, everything seems to look nice but breaks like shit. Just look at the italian cars, non of them is considered as reliable. I´d ratgher buy something else

flex 3401 kill the griot's Boss21. I return 3 of this griot's boss21 DA polishers, because of heating problem. one did scorch the meguiar's microfiber pad. But their compounds, and glazes are really good. I think Griot's need to focus and how to fix this problem. this machine is good for like personal use, but not for detail shops, I use the flex all day long even fixing orange peel taking 1,200 sand grid marks with 3m compound and that machine never goes down!! also I have the rupes 21 mark I, and the torq22d from chemicals guys, they does a decent work but not as the flex 3401.
