Such a great video PapaSmurf! Very thorough first impressions, love how you're able to capture the details like the sharper edges of the screw hole underneath the platypus head that can dig into your hand and cause discomfort and share that stuff with us. You bring up a great point as well with the reason you're picking up the G21, which is to focus on the compounding and correction step and speed that up. In that case, you definitely need that polisher to be fully balanced with the microfiber cutting pads because you're going to be pairing those pads up with this specific polisher the most. I think the weighted backing plate screws to better match the different types of pad you're working with is a good concept, but it has to work in the real world, especially if you have to spend additional time to unscrew the plate and swap the new screw in. The heat of the polisher is definitely an issue, based on your initial thoughts here I think Griot's needs to spend a bit more time to fine tune this polisher. Looking forward to your thoughts once you get the 5" backing plate in to see if this helps out any. Thanks so much for pumping this out for us, I was really looking to get some feedback and your thoughts were summed up perfectly mate! Awesome work on this!

Thanks man!! Appreciate you! Yeah, these little things may not have been caught by some but really play a role in comfort! The Weighted screws I agree I think is a good concept as well! Just not very well thought out. It's an inconvenience for me if you think about having to swap pads but then swap bolts as well. For this being there best machine I expected a little more R&D behind this. The heat....oh man the heat.. I was very shocked at how hot it was in the short amount of time. Not a fan. Unfortunately though I've decided to send it back! I just thought to myself even if I were to get the vibration down with the 5" backplate I'd still be fighting these heat issue. I can imagine working even half a car. I agree and think they need to go back to the drawing board on this as I expected more. Been waiting 3 months for this thing!!! Lol I'll be returning and getting a credit with Griots for price purchased. Pretty pissed at Detailed Image for not taking it back and refunding my money! Appreciate your insights my friend!!!🤝🏻🤜🏼🤛🏼

PapaSmurf918, I purchased mine directly from Griots. They take returns, no questions asked. Definitely mention to DI the unit gets very warm. They may not take returns of used polishers. The BOSS G21 seems to be of higher quality, hence the higher price tag. I know people don’t like the high price tag of Rupes, but I tried a friends Mark III 21 and it is smoooooooooth!! Hi ! I am debating with model I should get G9 or G21... I will use it for the boat compound and polish, and for my cars. Is the G9 strong enough for boat fiberglass compound ? Have you tried to stall the G9 ? I am kind of afraid to get the G21 following your review. So would the G9 be strong enough for my uses ? Thank you.

Hey! So, if you plan on polishing a boat the G9 will not cut it. You would be there for a long time. Would work great at applying wax/sealant!! The G21 would be best bet but I didn't care for it much. The Maxshine M21pro is awesome.. the New Shinemate polishers are getting a ton of great reviews as well. Flex is another great polisher.. most people prefer the rotory for boat polishing as well. Gel coat is tough! Hope this helps!

Appreciate that Kim! I have the M15pro series II and in comparison to that. My maxshine is MUCH smoother operation with microfiber pads by FAR. the G21 is a bit heavier but it packs a huge punch of power and wins that category over my maxshine. With the foam pad I will say it's pretty smooth and no complaints there except how hot the unit gets.. my Maxshine does get warm but not a hot at this G21 does. Overall the G21 has more power and less stalling... that's about it. Still, I'm reaching for my M15pro Series II

Rupes dodged a bullet after watching this video. I have to hand it to Griot's...without them releasing the first version of the Boss polishers, I'm not sure Rupes would have even considered releasing the MK3 with improved ergonomics. So kudos to Griot's for bringing some good old fashioned, free market competition to better the industry. Unfortunately, it looks like this new version isn't going to cause Rupes to react at all. I had some high hopes that the G21 price point would force Rupes to lower their's. Highly unlikely now

If you never use microfiber pads, or urofiber.. anything aggressive then by all means it's good. Foam pads its very smooth. Does get pretty hot though. Yeah that was my bad. I commented before I watched the final thoughts at the end of the video. I am surprised however that you mentioned no difference at all with changing the weights. I was expecting at least somewhat of a perceivable difference. I had a chance to buy a new Griots Garage G15 on sale for like $197 before tax this weekend. However after watching this review I ended passing on it, as there’s basically no direct reviews of the new G15, only the G21. They do share a similar design…so I really hoped you made a follow up with the 5” backing plate, I searched ur channel, couldn’t find one. Did u ever end up trying the 5” backing pad?

But, since I'd mostly be doing cutting with it.. foam wasn't what I was going to be sticking too.. I didn't get to test it with the 5" plate unfortunately.. I bought this as SOON as it came out and they had issues with the backing plates coming apart so they back ordered them and I wouldn't see one for like 2 months at the time of this video... I couldn't just sit on the polisher and wait lol. I sent it back and went with the Maxshine M21proII... Which I liked a bit better. Definitely smoother with my microfiber and urofiber pads.

This is gonna be a hard pass for me! Appreciate the upright honesty on this. I also wish it was a different color and style, Definitely Imo u shouldn't have to go through all this just to change the pad. Gonna explore the Maxshine M21 pro. Thanks for the expert advice and upfront honesty on the video papa Smurf.

No problem man! I was definitely expecting a tad more! I agree, different color scheme would be nice. Feel like the price drop difference they must have cut corners somewhere ya know? I honestly almost bought the Maxshine m21 series II myself but really had some high Hope's for this unit. Oh well, can't win em all! I really hope the 5" backplate takes care of the vibration.. appreciate you watching man!!👍🏻🤝🏻

Eric, very through review, the first thing I keyed in on before you even started the demo was as you mentioned having to change out bolts for different pads, that would drive me pun intended "nuts". That's a deal breaker for me.

Jay, thank you! Yeah its definitely an inconvenience for me for sure. That was one of the deal breakers for me as well. Appreciate you watching my friend!!

I had to skip through this one. In my opinion your intro could have been a video by itself and then set a teaser for the next video being the use of the machine. I still got a lot of info from this video and it pretty much talked me into getting the Dewalt DA cordless buffer as my next buffer as long as I don't find out anything bad about that one too. I had to cancel my detail job for today. Temp outside reached 101. I need to buy a place that has an air conditioned garage.

Haha thanks man! I always wondered if teasers would work!!! As far as building up suspense! Lol appreciate you watching and I hope your dewalt is a great machine. Man, 101 I don't blame you my friend... that's hot. And uncomfortable to detail in!!!!

Seems like a foam pad polisher only, not good. Back to the drawing board.

@@PapaSmurf918Detail I mean, it doesn't appear you use a consistent speed nor pattern on the paint, for example, a cross-hatch pattern is typically used.

Carl, I'm not going after any correcting methods here whatsoever.. this is not how I'd go about doing my normal polishing whatsoever. Lol simply just playing around and demonstrating the polisher.
