Yes a lump in the throat of the UK and not a nice feeling these days. Scotland is an embarrassment. Let’s have a referendum in England to give them the independence they obviously want, whether they want it or not. It’s time for us to let them go.

Last year my wife and I went on a Globus coach tour of Scotland and we both loved the country and its history. Scotland and Loch Lomond made a deep impact on me and while searching for the latter on iTunes I found Runrig. I too have the same feelings and reactions as THeGC1888 has every time I play it. Runrig is a great band and there presentation of Loch Lomond along with the audience's participation is for me deeply moving. Loch Lomond is really more a revered anthem of Scotland and should never be trivialised as simply a song.

Danced to this many a time in london after moving there for work in the late 80s/early 90s. Had all their early albums in plymouth as was into celtic/folky influenced music..Got to say that of all the many dance folk/rock/whatever type bands i have experienced live in my 69 years i have never danced as much as i did to these guys. Calum macdonald was a fantastic songwriter and musical genius. The gaelic lyrics were unsurprisingly over my head but boy could he pen a tune that could lift the soul or have you madly jigging around with a massive grin on your face. Sad its all over for them now, and me too with jigging around anymore, as time moves on but those live runrig musical memories will never leave me.

First heard this version whilst living in Saudi Arabia where 125 Scot Expats gathered in a compound to Out sing they bastard English ( for the game they were) in the Euro 2000 playoff Done it over both legs 125 Scots 3 Irish burds and a Canuck outsinging the English and their Vindaloo song we were belting out to this.

I am also Irish with some Scottish ancestory and we all used to sing Loch Lomond. Then Tommy Makem and the Clancy Bros changed the actual words to "Red is the Rose" I am nearly certain that it was actually Tommy Makem. who took the melody and put his own words to it and called it "Red is the Rose" . On saying it might have been Liam Clancy but I do remember Tommy Makem talking about Loch Lomond and explaining what they did. I think all these people have passed on. They were a great folk group.

I haven't heard this song in a while because I kinda of fell off the wagon a bit years ago, but now I'm jumping back in because it's just that good. And now I'm cringing because I was new to the internet when I on the Runrig fan forums and I was not shy about my thirst. Ugh, someone should really have taken the keyboard away from me, and I was about thirty years late to the party! 🤣
