Runaway Railroad Car!! Moving Cars Out Of Storage To Access It!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Railway car runs away on unused railway track. Rail cars rolls on old unused Norfolk Southern Railroad railroad tracks. Hoodlums uncoupled and released a 2 month old tank car that had been in short term storage on the Peavine at the end of active track. It rolled about a mile down the out of service section east of Seaman Ohio and derailed remaining upright on the track. It derailed at a point where the angle bar had been removed to prevent entry. It rolled about 500 feet after derailing and damaged the track all the way until it stopped. The derailing car caused the rails to slightly roll over in several long areas. Cincinnati East Terminal Railway came out lite with 2 locomotives to remove all the tank cars that were stored on the main at Seaman and took them to Batavia. They had to move them in order to get access to the tank car after it is rerailed. A crew showed up to jack the car up and put it back on the track. They could not highrail their trucks due to the condition of the track. I videoed the tank car and then I videoed the 56 tank cars being removed. This line is closed at MP62.2 and the car stopped at about MP63. The car crossed 3 roads and was the first train movement over those 3 roads since April 24, 2014 when Norfolk Southern ran their final train. See my videos of the final train. Run away rail car filmed January 25, 2016. Also, do the rate, comment and subscribe thing! Most importantly, to see more great videos like this one, please SUBSCRIBE TO JAWTOOTH!!

Tank car has personality. Got give it that. It said, I am going sightseeing and y'all can stuff it. lol My favorite rail car ever. Carries everything from crude oil to ethanol to other commodities. Union Tank Car Company, UTLX manufactures these monsters of the rails. They come larger. This guy, fortunately, derailed cleanly and hurt no one, but he had some fun running away like he robbed a bank or something......lol Excellent video Jaw.....as usual. Thanks JR ☕

I live in N.Ireland and we don't have railways like this, so I watched this and thought... what's the point of making a vid of this? I actually watched it twice more over time and began to realise... hey, this is actually pretty interesting! A slice of American life. It all counts! Thankyou, sir, for taking the time and trouble to record this unique scene and for doing it to such an excellent standard. :-)

I found it quite interesting myself, I enjoy pretty much any train videos. Whether they are out on the open rails putting in work, or situations like this. Also I have always wondered how they handle derailed trains and cars. I've seen several videos on it now, and it's pretty interesting to watch.

So that's how rail cars are supposed to look not all tagged up with graffiti!

I don't know of any gangs who tag trains. Most tags you see are freight heads just like you, some railfans, some riders and even workers. But most fans use markals not spray paint.

So it's not just my rolling stock that can derail lol , great to catch such an incident . Cheers......Peter.

+burdizdawurd1516 yeah, welcome to america. Where a booming oil and coal industry was cripled by govt regulation and international affairs incompetence. Saudi Arabia realized it could flood the market and cripple the US, Russian, and Iranian oil industry. They delivered on that idea. under $40 a barrel it makes no sense to drill the oil. it is a net loss. So as long as saudi is selling oil cheaper than water, we will see a lot of parked oil tankers.

Stevebacca also may be possible the cars just haven't be ready to replaced the out going cars. After sll, think about it, the builder doesn’t care what the customer does with the cars once delivered. also maybe the cars jus hadn't be ready for shipping to the customer.

What does that mean? I am going to hazard a wild guess - “one should pull a freight train taut to eliminate slack between couplers, before one fastens the handbrakes to park the string of freight cars.” Is that right? If so, why? What difference does it make?
@russlehman2070

@@Syclone0044 I'm not absolutely certain, but I think it makes it difficult or impossible to uncouple a car from the string.

I have a funny story. So I live by this branchline owned by the UP. There's also a location called Peavine on the branch. And also at Peavine, they've been storing a bunch of boxcars and tanks.
This is a brand new tank car because of the hand rails on the end of the car. This car was built some time in 2015 because that's when they had a general order on Union Pacific for these new type of cars.
@JawTooth
8 жыл бұрын
I think it was built in December 2015. I showed it somewhere in the video. It had never even been used and was already in a derailment.
very good video Jaw Tooth! these cars look brand new!
It’s unfortunate the car got loose but the good thing is that it didn’t crash causing a big disaster from whatever is inside of it. The track can be replaced.
Great video! Educational.
That’s nothing. Back in 78 or 79 on my first trip as a fireman. We lost a hopper an chased it 16 miles down the side of a mountain in west Texas at speeds of 60 mph before we caught it. True story

+ALCOPRO Both 2807 and 2806 came from the Alaska Railroad. They are both GP49 from General Motors EMD. Thanks for watching!
Rumor has it that the Hi-Railer isn't going to be the last "train" running over the Peavine after all. On either 2/30/16 or 2/31/16 Amtrak is going to run an Inspection train from Cincinnati to Norfolk via Roanoke to study a proposed new passenger train from Cincy to Norfolk partially to provide Navy personnel rail service from the Midwest to the Navy Yards in Norfolk. Using new Viewliner Baggage cars, a Viewliner sleeping car and Viewliner Dining Car and Amfleet coaches. Tentative reports indicate the train may be called the "Chesapeake Arrow" . Guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed and see if they feel the Peavine would be the most direct route. Stay tuned.
@JawTooth
8 жыл бұрын
+Buck Savage Cool thanks for the info!! That means they might run it on my birthday if they do it on the 30th! This would be a perfect line for the navy. Just straighten out a curve or two and it could be turned into high speed rail. I hope they use a couple of their surplus F40PH locos to make it really special. The people at NS never cease to amaze me. I'm glad they decided to give CSX some respect by using the "Chesapeake Arrow" name. I knew that bridge over the Scioto River wasn't as bad as NS claimed. This just proves it. I know where I'll be on my birthday on the 30th of this month! Lol

Great video ! I love the shot at the bridge at 16:30 what kind of horn does this unit have??
Looking at the width of the tank and how narrow the gauge is I am amazed these trucks stay on the track anyway!
I've been to Seamen Ohio, driving through, from Kettering Ohio to Shawnee state forest, but it's been a while. I used to backpack there, but I'm 58 and fat now. Seamen hasn't changed any from what I can see, but I have.
Have you considered getting one of the motion-activated wildlife cameras and setting it up in different places where cars are stored or where you're expecting an odd train? Unless you were extremely lucky, that would have been the only way to see the runaway car rolling. Just some food for thought. Greg in TN
So Brian were they able to get the tanker back on the track? will the CCET repair the damaged track section? Midland Sub said NS may open up a longer section of the Peavine for the CET to Plum Road.
@JawTooth
8 жыл бұрын
+Les Hemingway When I was there, they told me a tree needed removed first and they were waiting on a bigger truck to come. I dont know who will repair the track but it will have to be repaired just to move the car back to Seaman for CCET. There are still plans for Plum Run quarry but that has been in the works for a long time.
Fortunately, the coil springs indicate the car is empty. That car can be repaired with just some boards and a tow chain. Then it can be pulled back to the yard with a high railing utility truck if they pulled the tracks back to guage. I watched CSX retail a locomotive that was pulling the red Circus train down a similarly neglected spur with boards and chains. One of the workers retailing the train told me that he worked in a yard near Baltimore a nd the tracks were in such bad shape that they had cars derail several times per week. He spent about half his time putting cars back on the tracks.
Very detailed explanation as to what happened and close up video of the tracks. Very nice job my friend! Most people in there videos say "train derailed here" Again, Nice job!! Keep up the fantastic work!! I look forward to new videos! Whats that white stuff on the ground?? Never seen that here in Arizona! LOL

what activates the signal lights and cross arms? I’ve seen trains stop right before a crossing and arms raise and lights go off, so that told me the signal to activate must not be on the rail. Is today’s method of crossing activation always been this way?

I probably rerailed several hundred rail cars in 45 years. Each derailment is different. Tankers are bad the contents Slosh back and forth and they will run out after you cut away. You have to wait for the contents to settle down before you leave the cars.

Those ties must be rotten for the rails to come loose like that!

+Raymond Leggs Well, they are getting old but the weight of the tank car and it being derailed put a lot of pressure on the rails, especially in the curve. However, it has been at least 13 years since any new ties were installed.

Hey I have a question when you see railroad tracks and then in the middle of the tracks you will see two pieces of track they go about 20 or 30 ft and then they turn inward at each end what are those for.
@JawTooth
Жыл бұрын
Those are called guard rails. If the train derails they are supposed to keep the cars up on the track. Usually they are on bridges where you dont want the cars to roll off the track
