New Railroad Spur Installation! New Crossing, Derail & Switch! Steel Cross Ties!! IORY
Ойын-сауық
Brand new railroad spur installation including new railroad crossing, new railroad derail and new railway switch. Brand new customer for a branch line railroad for shortline railway Indiana & Ohio Railway IORY. The new industrial railway spur crosses Kilby Rd near Harrison, Ohio and winds its' way back to a loop track for Valley Asphalt. Notice the steel ties used on the spur! Also notice the derail components being assembled on site. The new level crossing is cross buck protected just like the nearby crossing north of here.
Gravel will be shipped in from the Melvin Stone quarry east of Wilmington, Ohio. Trains will use Indiana & Ohio Railway, CSX and Central Railroad Of Indiana to reach the new spur. This video shows 3 different dates of which I recorded the process of the track installation. The I&O branch that this spur comes off of is the Brookville line that was almost closed a few years back when its main customer at Brookville, Indiana switched to trucks. The 26 mile line was rebuilt when a new grain customer located on the line at Harrison, Indiana. That saved almost half of the line and grain is shipped into that customer instead of out. The only other customer is 84 Lumber and I have only seen them use the line one time. The line is ex Pennsylvania Railroad and it has always been an endangered line. See my Indiana & Ohio Railway playlist for more videos of this line. This video also shows a huge auto rack train that I recorded on the same day as the spur visit on February 4, 2020. The CIND auto racks train is empty and westbound at North Bend , Ohio which is just east of where this I&O branch connects at Valley Junction. Listen to trains on 161.220 and 161.430. i realize I am kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good place to watch newly released tv shows online?
I don't think I've ever seen steel railroad ties before! That's amazing! And it's great that they built a new rail line in this day and age! Most lines are being removed, but seeing a new one built is just fantastic!
Always a good thing to see rail go in instead of out
It's good to hear that some railroads are expanding when so many are shrinking. Up here in Washington state, the BNSF is apparently packed to the gills with little room for expansion. I find it easy to do railfanning in the Tacoma area because both passenger & freight trains pass through about every 15 - 30 minutes.
Jaw Tooth at large! Braving all that weather so we can view these videos in the comfort of our homes. Well worth it. A good look at the install of new tracks, that most don't get to see. Enjoyed every moment. Nice gesture for that engineer to wave at you. Nice! You always know how to capture the good stuff. Thanks!
Now that's cool to see new rail installed usually it's getting ripped up thanks for sharing
wow, we are actually installing an industrial spur instead of ripping one out.... sweet! thanks for the catch, Jaw Tooth . greetings from Bellows Falls, Vermont

So true. I think this is the first time I've ever watched a video about a Spur or any rail for that matter being installed versus being ripped up or abandoned. A pretty sad testimony for American manufacturing and commerce.

@@retiree1033 I'm not thinking he meant Trump. Can't see how. Now Obama, definitely. Clinton and Bush too. Obama was openly anti coal. The steel industry started disappearing years ago. The almighty dollar. Slave labor in China. All our recycled Steel being shipped to China. Being melted down and sent back here for pennies on the dollar in many instances sub standard alloys. China's rail traffic and railfanning is alive and well these days. That's what happens when manufacturing disappears. The rails go with it. The jobs go with it. Trump 2020.

VERY COOL! Pretty rare to catch a brand new line getting built. Good catch, JT!!!
You're the best Jaw Tooth and don't let anybody tell you different! The rail spur was very interesting, something that I've never seen done before, thanks, sir.
Amazing to see new rail building! This is the third new rail I've seen laid in the last three years. Until recently I had only ever seen rail removed. This always made me sad and seemed short sited. Very encouraging to see rail systems actual expanding...serving new customers and growing!

Live Action Jawtooth commemorating a new rail line! It doesn’t get any better than this!
A brand new railroad customer ? Will miracles never cease ?
Awesome to see new industry using rail. Impressive siding
Good to see the progress on that spur. I remember seeing the crossing being made in one of your earlier videos. I think it was probably raining then as well. While they tell me that it is always raining in England, I have to say that it either rains all the time in the USA, or it always rains adjacent to railway track in the USA, or Jaw Tooth has his own personal rain cloud and usually remembers to take with him on most of his railway travels.
Hi Brian! I am looking forward to some “Live Action” on that new spur! I am hoping they will allow you a “ceremonial first throw” on that new switch! It would only be fair. This is the first time in two weeks I am able to give a big thumbs up 👍 to your videos!
Very nice. Looks awesome. I wish I could go out and film. I used to, but since my heart surgery I am stuck inside. Thank God for KZread and people like you.
Awesome video, finally they are putting in a new spur instead of abandoning it.
visit 4 of 4 should be the first time they use the switch to deliver rock.
Whew, What A Shot Of Railroad Construction. This Could Be A Good Sign.
Great video!! Glad to see there ate places still having spur industrial lead tracks being built to facilities. Also that is very interesting seeing steel ties for what looks like the while length of the new track rather just at the derail switch!! The only time I known of steel ties used were for light rail tracks that are street running before they get the concrete poured over them.
Ditto! So nice to see new track going in and not old going out!!👍
Awesome video about the new switch and line. Woohoo!!! Thumbs up all the way!!
Huh, neat. First time ive ever seen steel ties. Ive seen concrete and the standard wood ties, but steel, that is a first.

Big thumbs up for a great video 👍👍
Definitely different seeing rain in February in a snowy climate! I wish we had rain where I live. Been dealing with snow for nearly a week now. Good to see railroading still hanging on and in demand! There's a company in Commerce City, CO called R&S Steel and they just got new rail service provided by BNSF and just got a new spur built right off the main line in the past year. They mostly have boxcars and those real long "U" shaped cars....flat cars with walls in the front and back...don't know the formal name. Thanks for sharing what's going on in your neck of the woods!
Thanks for the update. I scratch my head on the derail but who are we to question. That house on the hill in the background would be a nice vision spot.
Steel cross ties? They must have borrowed that idea from Lionel O Gauge track! lol Always nice to see a new customer on these lightly used lines.

Glad to see that there is at least one RR going the distance to get new customers unlike the big roads.

Ken, There is a new common carrier line being built in Utah from Vernal to near Helper connecting with the former D&RGW ( now UP ) It is 85 miles long and will be the first common carrier line built in the US since the 1970's. It should be operational by 2023. It will haul oil, coal, and ag products out of the Uintah basin.

I saw a new rail spur go in in 2008, for a steel products plant. They receive steel coil cars via rail, and have a 3.3% grade from the branch line to their property. The short line operating the branch bought an SW1200 just for the plant 🤣

we live in a more complicated and dangerous (perception, here) world..... sadly the days of an engineer inviting a young impressionable future railroader up into the cab are largely gone. I love the machines and infrastructure, rolling stock, architecture, etc..... but railroading is largely about people.

You are correct. I have been around trains since the 60s and I agree, the crews were a lot friendlier back then than they are today. I use to get rides in the locomotives and cabooses. In the past year I have been given the finger twice and assaulted and cursed at by train crews. I try to stay away from the crews. My focus is on the railroad itself.

Hi again JT I love your videos the best I love Chessie and Murphy I hope that I spelled there names right it’s always nice to see them you have a awesome family ❤❤❤
It's so nice to see a new rail line, compared to the 70's and 80's when we lost so many branch lines.
Nice track work.Glad to see them invest some money for the future.Watching from Costa Rica. Thanks for posting Brian.
always lite to see your videos. thanks, stave from north east pa
That is the FIRST NEW RAIL I've seen laid, in probably over 40 years! That's a very unusual looking switch! All I've ever know have the heavy weighted throw arm and the OLD Ones, had a Kerosene Lamp on top with red and green (or blue) colored lenses!
Absolutely fantastic jaw tooth 👍🏻 Nothing better than seeing a new spur being laid 🤣🤣 I really believe more I’ll come back as the years go on 👍🏻 We have lots of steel ties in the U.K. 🇬🇧 on secondary lines 😆 Love your videos Jaw Tooth Cheers Stevie 😎🇬🇧
Neat! Well done vid as always! 😊
A great Jaw Tooth video. Good to see track being laid and not removed. But wait, there's more! This video has inspired my track maintenance crew (Me) to lay the new spur track on my railroad, and put an updated crossing for the main drag. Thanks and hello again from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado. ♡ T.E.N.

Awesome video and liked seeing the new siding put in!!!!
Always nice to see new track layed. Greetings from Scotland. 🇬🇧
"Gandy dancers" would have a problem dealing with those lengths of rail. Imagine shifting that with pry bars. Now, half a dozen guys got it covered! Thanks JT.
Geat video JT that a long rack train. looking forward to seeing rock delivered.
Thats some nice track and crossing. Around here I think the rails are 70 years old and the crossing all jar your teeth out. They actually repaired one crossing near me and it was perfectly smooth. Then for some reason they redid it agai na year later and it was back to BUMP BUMP.
JT Love your pickup truck and the color is real nice and your dog is adorable.
Shine those new rails son!!!!!!!!
How could anyone be more dedicated. Great video

Nice to see expansion of a short line , steel ties are perfect for non signaled territory with sharp curves . New Century switch stands still being used for over a century put in many in my career as track supervisor on the LIRR .
What a long way the crewman has to walk on the joining line to turn over the switch!😯 Maybe there glad of it after being sat on there but all day trying to keep there eyes open haha!

That was a cool video Jawtooth. I’m glad to see railroads adding new spurs and business. That’s great. Enjoyed the video and the long train. 👍👍👍❤️
I always love your "but wait - there's more"...
It makes me happy to see a brand new road bed being laid down in this century. Even if it’s a spur, it’s still a great sign, that railroads are making a come back. #maketrainsgreatagain
Two SD40-2 units pulling 55 cars at 89 ft each = 4,895 ft (without power). Wow, those are some powerful locomotives!
It's amazing how railroads are doing things model rail roaders have been doing for years! prelaid track, prebuilt switces, and what not where as decades ago that all would have been done by hand acouple of rails, and a handful of spikes at a time...
Well done, thank you for what you do for us Foamers.

Jaw Tooth, how do you hear about all these cool railroad happenings? It's not like you're next door to a train yard in a huge city. But still, you're always on top of anything fun and interesting related to trains in your part of Ohio.
The siding is the nicest set of tracks in miles.
We build new spur tracks with a track laying machine (TLM) laying concrete ties and CWR, it's rare for us to build a spur with wood ties and stick rails these days.
I love the railroads and love to watch the trains go through the crossings. I think trains are really amazing, but it seems they are closing up all the lines I'm glad to see them laying new track. I didn't think they laid new track anymore. I know they use old existing track and fix it or abandon it and take up the rails and make Rail Trails but I didn't know they laid new track nowadays. Cool!! Thanks!!
With all those care I was beginning to think you just pooped the video. LOL
