    It is a great idea to use an embroidered design, and then ruler work to go around it! I will try it! Your videos are so great and thank for helping us all!

    Thanks for another great tutorial! I just bought the clear Clarity ruler foot from you and have been using it for ruler work and FMQ. I’m short so it’s much easier to see my needle path with the clear foot. 🙂

    I am amazed! I absolutely love this! My husband had bought me a sewing/quilting machine for Christmas. Can't wait to start playing around to see what I can come up with! I'm a newbie at the quilting game, but so far I love it!

    I always feel that the best patterns can be achieved mostly with the new automatic embroidery machines, they take a photo and never miss a point. But this pattern really is amazing and handmade!

    Excellent video. I never really understood how to do ruler work with a sit-down machine but I do now. Wow! And hint that might help eyeballing those 1/4" seams... when I first started with rulers on my longarm I too had problem eyeballing where to place the template ruler so that the needle would end up at that perfect stop point... I found the Dritz Super Seam Ruler has a perfect quarter inch when placed on it's quarter inch side. The Dritz ruler is 6" x 1/2" x 1/4". I would place the Dritz ruler next to the template ruler, then align so that the edge of the Dritz ruler was where I needed the needle to stop. The Dritz ruler is removed before starting the machine, it's simply a quarter inch spacer for alignment. It is an extra step but it worked so well and the ruler is a handy size to grab and use, it was worth the extra few seconds it took until I really understood where that quarter inch was at. After 14 years of both longarm and sitdown quilting, I still use my Dritz ruler when I need that perfect stop point. Thank you so much for sharing too.... wonderful!

    This video was so exciting to find. I have always loved your work and now I'm ready to start ruler work with my sit down machine. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and love for quilting. Question? What do you use on the bottom of your ruler to keep it from slipping over the fabric? Thanks in advance for your answer.

    +Susan Lynn Sorry Susan, I never got this question in my email. I use Nexcare bandage tape, which you can find in the first aid section of the drugstore and it's very cheap. Be sure to get the clear tape.

    Good question! If you have any long armers in the UK that sell them online, that would be your best bet. If not, we ship all over the world. Because we can no longer sell downloadable products to EU countries, if you go to our we site and email me what you'd like, I can send you a paypal invoice if you want to purchase from us. (We can legally sell physical products but not downloadable products to EU countries.)

    Thanks for your sweet words! I used Sulky rayons as well as Floriani and Magnifico polyesters. They all have a very nice sheen so they tend to really "pop" against the fabric.

    I love you Patsy!! You are so artistic. Ever since I learned hyperquilting from your book and Craftsy class I've been applying it to my quilts. Hyperquilting adds such a beautiful effect. I'm glad to see you on a sit down machine showing your work. I have a Tiara without the stitch regulator. I'd like to know what you think of stitch regulators for these machines. Do you recommend?

  • @Ernpats

    Hi Rachel, Personally, I don't care for them, but that's probably because I learned to FMQ back when they weren't available. The more time you spend quilting, you really do learn how to control the stitch length; it's all just part of that whole thing about practice, practice, practice!

    The feathered wreath in the center was stitched on my embroidery machine, then quilted as a trapunto layer once I had all 3 layers of the quilt sandwich put together.

    Your machine is a low shank machine, so be sure to buy a low shank ruler foot. I would recommend the Clarity Ruler foot as it is clear and offers the best visibility. Here is a link to it in our online store: www.patsythompsondesigns.com/shop/Ruler-WorkTemplates--Supplies/p/Clarity-Ruler-Foot-x20674310.htm

    I use the edge of a sliver of soap that I've rescued from the shower. I keep an old vegetable peeler in my sewing room and use that to "shave the edge" if the line isn't narrow enough. I use white Dove soap and it always comes out fine.

    Are there templates that could be used to form the wreath? My machine does 5 by 7 designs. Is there a way to repeat a smaller design to come up with a large wreath?

  • @Ernpats

    @Ernpats

    7 жыл бұрын

    There are templates to create all kinds of wreaths using ruler work. These would be made by ruler-guided free motion quilting, not by an embroidery machine. I am not aware of any digitized embroidery designs where you could create a large machine embroidered/quilted wreath in multiple hoopings.

    Rosada, some people split embroidery designs into 2 sections, because their hoop is too small to do the whole thing. I do not know how to do that yet, but I know there are people online who do it. I buy my emb. and quilting designs from www.emblibrary.com, and www.urbanthreads.com. They stitch out so nice and are so affordable. You may want to check them out. They also have loads of tutorials and info.

  • @Ernpats

    @Ernpats

    Thanks for your kind words! Those are machine quilting gloves. I'm not able to quilt without them. The tips have a light rubber on them, and it makes it much easier for me to move the quilt across the machine bed. When I use just my hands, it is really, really hard to move that quilt!

    I think using that sort of quilting on a very plain quilt would enhance the plain quilt but if you have a beautifully designed artistic quilt it would interfere with the design of the quilt. I guess it comes down to what you want to show, the design of the quilt or the quilting. I don't know how you can do both without making a very busy unattractive quilt. JMHO. Janet
