Very nice informative tutorial on both FMQ and Ruler Quilting. Thank you!!

The best thing I've used as grips for my rulers are those little fingertip stick on "polka dots" made for hand sewing. They don't get in the way of the markings so you can see clearly, they don't scratch the surfaces of the cloth or your table, and they don't leave hardly any residue if you need to remove them or change the position. I dont understand why I don't see more quilters recommending them instead of the tape. Try them ladies... you'll love them!

Great idea!

I collect vintage machines. My featherweight has dropping feed dogs.. I have a 1892 Royal White, that operates (was fitted with a singer motor, in 1918... ) All get used... several have these types of feet... I was a bit surprised. Thank you for sharing this info with us. P.S. love the rulers!!!

Thank you rulers arrived today

I used my regular scalloped ruler and it worked great! I also used my small flower ruler. I don't have a problem with FMQ with my regular rulers. Don't need special ones like some think

Hi Sherry, I was given mine by a friend who wasn't using hers anymore. I think it's a Pfaff table. Probably online would be your best bet!

Hazel, what is the brand of your machine? The hopping foot (which really doesn't 'hop", aka 'ruler' foot you need would look something like this. Hazel, for ruler work you will want a ruler foot for your brand of machine. A darning foot is not a tall enough profile for a ruler.

I have no problem quilting free motion even king size. I do not have experience quilting with rulers.

My sewing machine is inclosed on three sides and I place a portable table on my left. I free motion, not fancy but I can do a few different stitches pretty well, I also can use built in walking foot if I want. I love to quilt and meandering is no problem at all. If in hurry that is what I do, but I can do others, and with each one I get some what better. I love doing it, and love finished quilts.

My first free motion quilting project was queen size. I learned from Craftsy. Leah Day, Angela Walters and others. It was challenging on may little Janome with a 7" throat space, but I now have 11".
