    Just bought a gen 2 version (July 13 2024) of this rifle, and it cycles perfectly out of the box. The recoil also seems really gentle. It came set at gas setting 3, which seems to work really well. As for recoil, shooting 150 grain PMC, it felt like it was fighting me less than the average sawzall, which is great. I am also a small guy (170 lbs) and I had no shoulder bruises at all.

    I believe ruger has fixed this issue with the newest of SFARs. Its mostly the 16 inch model that has gas problems. Either send it back or change the gasblock. I'm waiting for my 20 inch SFAR to get delivered to Sweden😊

    I have watched tons of videos on this Ruger SFAR and everyone that has trouble with it like this guy I have noticed something. They all have bought the 16" one and every one of them went and changed this and that. I've also watched videos of the 20" barrel SFAR too. And no issues. I have the 20" one and it runs beautifully, great.

    Mine was doing the exact same thing as yours, out of 220 rnds about 50 did not eject, I swapped gas block with aero precision, and I polished the chamber with a spent case and flitz and hit it a little more with a mop and flitz. Went out and ran it and now it ejects flawless, also take the bolt apart and clean under extractor, found alot of brass shavings in there 🤦🏽‍♂️ also for recoil I went with Precision armament HYPERTAP and waaaay better than the one that comes on it .

    I had read about the same solution on a forum that addressed these problems. After a new gas regulator from Ruger and even a trip back to Ruger, it still failed to cycle properly. I found out about the Tubb flat wire spring and H2 buffer solution and have been fine ever since. At least 200-250 rounds later and not any problems.

    Most of the time its manufacturing quality control and reliable brands or models are visible once it is broken down. I think light sanding and polishing friction areas always make a dramatic improvement if it's not an engineering flaw. If done right a little oil goes a long way. Looking forward to updates, best of luck!

    I've talked multiple people out of this rifle. too many issues with the first generation to justify the price vs reliability. in my humble opinion, Ruger rushed the SFAR into production without sufficient R&D. i got lucky and picked up Ruger's SR762 just before they were discontinued. that rifle has been 100% reliable with anything I've shot.

    I had adjusted my gas block to what I thought was 3 but it wouldn't eject the casing. Turns out Ruger doesn't number their gas block 0-1-2-3, it's numbered 1-2-3-0. So what I thought was 3 was actually zero. Now that I figured that out, it shoots good. Picked it up for $949 on sale and I'm impressed with the weight.

    Any marks on the sides of the cases? Might be a tight chamber or rough chamber. I'm sure Ruger will get you taken care of regardless. Hope to have my SFAR out tomorrow. Still working through the gas setting issues that many folks have. Will be swapping out the gas block at some point if I can't run setting 1 suppressed and setting 2 unsuppressed.

  • @11shockman
    @11shockman7 ай бұрын

    The stuck case issue is most likely an overgassed situation where the bcg is starting to cycle while there is still sufficient back pressure in the barrel to balloon the case in the chamber. I experienced this with some 175 gr otm 308 ammo...destroyed the case rim on the stuck rounds and bad case head swipe on the rounds that cycled. My solution was to swap the gas block to Aero with more settings, and buffer tuned with h and h2 buffers. I’ve got the rifle running all types of ammo that I currently have on either h or h2 buffers, I prefer the h2 for less recoil, better ejection pattern, and it seems to slow the bcg enough to prevent stuck cases. If you go the factory route, Ruger will likely have you send the rifle back( not a bad way to go... they’re probably getting real good at fixing these rifles). If you go with the updated gas regulator ( if Ruger will send you one) you can swap that out without the need of a gunsmith, gas regulator removal is standard cleaning procedure and Ruger has a video on how to do it. Anyways good luck, once you get it running right you’ll love it.

    I have the 20" version of SFAR. First time at the range, I tried 3 different brands of ammo, and I was surpriced how big difference it was between them. With one of the brands the rifle act overgassed, throwing brass 2 o'clock. Another (the best) ejected brass 4 o'clock. With the third brand it wouldn't cycle on setting 2 at first. I had to go to 3 for 10-15 rounds. Went back to setting 2, and it would cycle reliably, but not lock back on the last round Other than that I was on gas setting 2 the whole time, and I used the same magazine in the entire "test". My thoughts on it is that it might need 200 rounds through it to make a proper judgment, but it seems it's finnicky on ammo, the way this gas block is designed with the port holes. Depending on the actual drilled size of that holes, you could get a lemon or a rifle that runs well out of the box. It doesn't take much deviation in hole size for things to be crap. I will maybe exchange the gas block for a superlative arms or aero precision adjustable. Also the standar gasblock is in contact with the handguard on my sample, so it would be wrong to call the barrel free floating...the flex in the original handguard is also too big for my taste. I want a more rigid setup. ...but good that AR-15 handguards will fit on this thing. Lots of options to improve things🙂

    It would seem that the chamber is undersized. The bcg didn't even attempt to cycle that means you either have zero gas, they forgot to put in gas rings or far more likely that brass is crazy stuck in the chamber. Its not a gas system problem its an out of tolerance problem. Send it back.

    When you check to see if the gas block is tight, use a torque wrench to check the two screws on the bottom of the gas block. You should be able to access them without removing the handguard. The torque value is hard to find but I've seen anywhere from 25 to 35 in/lbs. Ruger has also been replacing the valve in the gas block with a redesigned one in some cases. Also, if you're only using the one magazine, try a different one. Good luck.

    As much as I enjoyed your video about your upgrades, it would've been nice to see if it ran properly before upgrades. I'm not saying you did anything wrong but checking function before swapping/adding parts is a good idea. Watching your first 3 shots I have to wonder if adding the pdq might have added extra friction or something. I have heard about possible gas block issues but watching the bolt not move at all in slow motion makes me guess its either gas block or something the bolt is getting caught on. As for the cases getting stuck, I've seen brand new factory barrels that are just a hair out of spec in the throat or chamber that cause the case to stick like that.

I plan to change mine just haven't decided with what.. the raptor was a must.. I did the same.. all others were specifically to reduce weight... Had the 3x prism but just went with a 1-6 to take advantage of the round...
