The true genius of this gun is that all the parts people like to change out on their AR-15's, are compatible and interchangable on this gun -- which no other AR-10 manufacturers can say about their rifle.

I wish you luck and hope yours treats you well. I've seen and read about a lot of problems, all mostly stemming from the gas system. Brad Branch had one that that's gas block was loose from the factory. If yours gives you issues with the factory gas regulator, seems like a good fix is an adjustable gas block from SA or SLR. Something click adjust to make it easy.

I just put an adjustable buffer weight in and will be putting an aero adjustable gas block on. Also after 100 rds I took it apart to clean and found a raised burr on the bolt tail which made it hard to remove the bolt from the carrier I think it was from the fireing pin hitting it too hard and other burs on the locking lugs of the bolt and the chamber lugs good luck with yours

There are very few malfunctions that need to lock the bolt back. In a fighting situation you wouldn't even have time to deal with something like this and would need to go to secondary weapon. Also, to lock bolt back is easy and you don't need any of the extras, simply pull the handle with your left hand (as you wanted) and stick your finger in the mag well to push the lock up and you are good to go.

With that logic, why have a bolt lock at all? Just an unessesary part that adds an additional failure point? I guess it comes down to personal preference. And I definitely prefer to have a right side bolt hold open. And I could be wrong, as I often am, but didn't Sig get a few contacts at least with the full size Spear? Both the Spear and Spear LT have this type of bolt lock/release. They just weren't the first.

I have heard that the factory gas block does not shut off enough gas when using a suppressor. The extra holes in the upper in Ruger's design can make it quite gassy. I prefer the 20" over the 16" and have heard that it suffers less from reliability issues. I don't think a pin that rotates is much to be concerned about.

From what I understand they’ve fixed the gas lock issue. I don’t know if they’re offering replacements for all of them or just for the ones having issues. I have one that I bought a few months after it was released, and so far with 600 rounds through it, no issues. I’d like to get to the range more often to work with it more, just not enough time in the day.

Correct. The changes I made affect the user experience, not the function of the rifle. The parts I installed I use on all my ARs. So I know what I like. The only thing I haven't done, that I do to my others, is an ambi magazine release. Which I will probably do when I have a few extra dollars.

  • @ICanDoItMyself

There are some parts compatibility with AR308 (LR308), some with AR15 and some proprietary. But with the larger AR10 or LR308s, there is no standard like the AR15. The heavier Aero may be better at absorbing some of the recoil. I just shot the SFAR for the first time and it left my shoulder bruised.

@@ICanDoItMyself I saw a video on KZread of a guy who used an AR10 with the FightLite kit. (I feel like an idiot not having the title of the video or the gun tubers name.) I think it's called the FightLite SCR. The solid stock has a built in spring loaded cylinder instead of a buffer tube and weights. I don't know what brand of AR10 he was using but it fired and cycled with no problem at all. He just wanted to see if it would even fire or chamber a follow up round. It ran like a top. You'd think it'd require a stiffer spring. I actually love the look of the kit. An AR with a solid stock looks like a modern M14. To me anyway. You get the M14 look with the modern advantages of an AR. I'd love an SFAR with that FightLite kit even if I lived Texas. It's different.

You need to do S-P-O-R-T; you do not need to lock the bolt back when you have a malfunction. S is 'slap your magazine' from the bottom; P is 'pull the charging handle to the rear'; O is 'observe the extracted round'; R is 'release the charging handle'; and T is 'tap the forward assist.' It needs to be quick and second nature. How? Train, Train, and Train. Go slow to build smoothness then fast will come. Imagine there are bullets flying by you. Finally, instead of extra furniture and levers on this weapon, consider a better gas regulator. The SFAR is a glorified single shot without the upgrade after about 150 rounds, but for over a $1000 dollars, it should come with it fully installed and ready to go.
