yeah- i can totally believe with a familiar gun over a familiar range with calm wind and younger eyes, he'd have that slight advantage to be able to pull it off given how well he did . there may also be an element of someone having said it was 710 yards back on the farm, but it was actually 690, I don't know if he actually measured it accurately that kinda thing, but shooting that kinda range as well as he did with a .22 is seriously impressive stuff.

I think there was a couple guys who did a similar thing a couple years ago with Nutnfancy with his “Soldier Boy” drills. Definitely respect the guy for standing by his word and not make up excuses (or at least a lot). The bro turned a 10/22 into an artillery piece and came close.

Consider making that shot at a Coke can And no he didn't say Pepsi! From a kitchen chair off the railing of your West Texas front porch or a bench rest. A piece of grass dropped from shoulder height, would hit the ground at your toes. Dead still the air at 30% humidity and doing this day after day after day with your brothers. Through bricks and bricks of Winchester X 22 LR... Summers are long dry and hot where the great planes meet the southwest desert. With not much to do but shoot at a Coke can sitting on top of a tractor...

I was surprised how close he did get. I've only ever pushed my 22s out to 100m, and I can't constantly hit a soda can at 100. Just getting the impact into the video's frame is impressive.

I've been binging Garand thumb for about a month or two now. I love your videos, especially because of the level of authenticity that you put into them. Watching a guy get instantly deleted by a tank is probably always gonna be my favorite thing on your channel, but this type of video is by far superior in my opinion. How do you know? That "Just past the berm" was probably a good 40 or 50 meters behind it. When you get to such extreme ranged a little change in elevation will result in massive change of impact distance. There is really no way to tell how good his grouping was, without assessing them on a plain surface, perpendicular to the trajectory.

Then again it could have been at 500 yards if someone moved the tractor at some point by the time he had a laser range finder when he was older. I guarantee you if they had used a higher cap mag, so he could make more attempts before the gun went "click" he would have made it with the irons - that "click" was just disheartening! I think you are right, he probably could have and likely did make that shot when he was younger.

I have always respected you but I have a new found greater respect for you and your crew! I think you all are a great example of humility even and maybe especially when you're right and that says a lot! I'd like to see him come back out and shot at a man sized target at 1500+ with like a .338 lapua (or something) like give him a better more consistent tool and lets see how far he can ring that bell with whatever you guys think is the best tool for the job! I loved how you guys changed it up and put yourselves out there and that's how you grow and get new jokes and expand your tribe and I think thats great! I wish I had you guys as my friends (i know i sound a little sad) but I just think it would be a lot of fun and I could share and teach you guys a lot about a lot and visa versa! most deffinatly. having a good solid hold over point to remember from your home porch rather then just clear blue sky. and down in a valley with plenty of wind cover. sitting there with your brothers fucking around shooting out there all day, deffinatly could have hit it a couple of times with enough time.

Probably one of the best videos I’ve seen. He didn’t make the shot but y’all made the best of it. I’m sure 22 man will remember that day forever. Thank for sharing it with us.

Yep. When I was in the Army, sometimes, when we'd be on the range, we'd ask each other: Would you stand at 500 meters and let Private Snuffy take one shot at you for $1,000? Sometimes, it would be a hard yes because that particular Joe simply couldn't shoot. But with others, you'd be like, 'Nope.' If I had to stand at 500 meters with this guy and a .22, that'd be a hard no. That can was 700 yards. I'm thinking he's going to hit a man sized target at 500 or less.

He’s being walked in by spotters though.

He showed up and he was pretty quickly hitting in the vicinity of the can. I think when he was younger and in more familiar territory it’s possible he’s made the shot before. He even said he hasn’t been shooting like that in years so for him to have the muscle memory and the holds to get close is wild. Seems like a good dude and he actually turned up which is also wild. Plus when he got the long distance rifle he hit the can in just a few shots.

At that range its all luck, there's so many changing variables with such a small caliber like .22 when you go out to ranges like that, no amount of skill is gonna allow for consistent target hits. Although yes I do think its possible that, at one point as a kid, he made the shot mostly by pure dumb luck.

As kids, a friend and I used to throw rocks at fence posts to decide who got to pick the video game for the day. At our best, we were competing to see who could hit the top of the post the most times in a row without missing-at ~102ft. As an adult, I wouldn't believe a story like that except I experienced it first hand.

This is just romanticizing nostalgia to evoke feelings. It doesn't have anything to do with real life and also violates Ockham's Razor. It is much, much more plausible and probable to assume one thing, namely that they weren't able to measure correctly. Especially since according to the video, him making those shots under whatever circumstances would come close to breaking the laws of physics which didn't change between then and now.

This video and the Mr Dicken video really stand out. Love all the funny stuff but knowing you can dial it back for serious topics really make me love this channes even more.

I believe with everything I have that he made the shots back home. He was pushing 700 with irons in unfamiliar territory, and more wind than he probably had before. Even with age and degradation, his eyesight is phenomenal. Having lots of time as kid, familiar aim points, thousands of shots, he probably had the formula down perfect. Even if the distance wasn’t 710, if was definitely past 600. But the dead giveaway is the fact that he showed up. Respect man.

100% bullshit artist. The simple fact is, even with the best match grade ammo, 22lr isn't that accurate at distance. You can bolt the rifle down to the table and still have 4 FOOT groups at 700 yards. The round is too light and too slow to make it happen. The fact is, the dude conned them for a free vacation. If GT had told him "I'll pay for the trip IF you make the shot", you would have seen him back out quick. I hate a liar just like I hate a thief, and this douchebag is both. He used lies to steal a vacation.

Shocker is Army RnD tested 22 back in the 90s ( something to do with a marker round for 308s like 2 barrel guns i think ) you can hit 700yds with it, the kicker is only hits like a fly. Files are out there just got to look for them, im ex RMC from over the pond an don't think I'd make the shoot with a 22 tho 308 lets take it to 1500 and play. 😂😂😂😂😂

i used to consistently throw half court shots standing with my back to the hoop as a kid, me and 5 friends could all do it, we knew the ball, the court, the hoop, we just practiced until we knew the "feeling" of hitting the shot, then we would just repeat that to do it consistently, i got it at least half the time but some of the other guys were even better. @@TobiTheHumanhumans are capable of incredible things. we still dont fully understand the brain

Back in his kid day's ammo was cheap and it's possible he may have to been able to do it. When I was a kid I had a model 60 marlin I learned to shoot long distance with it, I knew where to hold to get it there. But ammo was cheap and I went through thousands of rounds and wore that ol gun out.

You know years back my brother and i used to shoot mud balls out of the air, as twins we would make em and throw them for eachother, we hit them very consistently. All with .22's got the idea from my grandfather. Dunno if im as capable with a .22 now. But i do shoot well with my 6.5, .308, and .243 to this day.

He shot over and over at home. He had a big target to work off of at home. Maybe If he hit the tractor at home it would splatter and hit the can. He had a consistent spot at home where to line up. He had a very steady shooting position . Did he hit it at home? I think so. How many times, I don't know.

Yep, I can only imagine if he sat there for hours a day competing with his brother they’d be getting it on those perfect windless days. Some days they probably didn’t hit it at all. Also setting up the can he’d know where it was and could use the bigger tractor as a reference. You don’t really have to see it, just know where it is and where the bullets are landing.

He did exactly what Micah said he would do, first shot he just aimed at the sky and sent it. Also, to be faaaaair, when I saw him sending up dust near the IP I KNEW he would crank a soda can at 710 with a PROPER platform. No disrespect at all to GT and team, but they were having problems with optics at 400-500. .22 MAN skidooshes rounds within a meter or so on a cold bore shot with irons… FUGGIN LEGEND!! I really think with stable wind (or at least not lateral values) conditions .22 MAN would have tapped that ass!

After his first few shots, I honestly believe he did make these shots years ago. The fact he was able to land those first few shots that close to the target being in a different environment, wind and vision problems, tells me that he was quite a sharp shooter back in the days and his environment.

I decided pop through a ballistic m calculator and saw it was technically within the maximum range for the load and gun combination. Yeah with the elevation I figured it would essentially be like shooting artillery style and gradually walking it in especially if as described he was shooting with other people who could see the impact and give him corrections, but it would still be a case of accuracy by volume rather than being able to make a called shot of such on demand.

Given the conditions he still got ridiculously close a couple of times. Even if he cant hit a .22 shot at 710 yards, he's clearly still a good marksman. Props to how you, him, and the crew interacted with each other. I'm sure he'll never forget this moment of being featured in a video with one of his favorite youtubers.

I once shot a penny from a hot air balloon with 20mph gusts from 800 yards. Plus i walked up a snowy mountain both directions to get to my balloon.

The fact he even was even the general vicinity is actually pretty impressive. Godspeed .22 man.

As a kid I grew up just off of the Northern Cheyenne rez, you would be amazed at what the young native American kids can do with their 22's !!

I had a good time watching from home, I’d love to watch in person some day. I do miss my home state of SD. Love me some AZ shooting conditions. But have yet to find any good ranges in northern KS. Keep the great content coming. 👍🏽 pew pew

Yeah, you took him to unfamiliar territory on a 20 year old story. As close as he was getting, I believe him. If he were to do that, same thing consistently for 3 or 4 weeks, I think he could do it.

When I was a kid back in the early 60s I would go spend a month in the summer on my Uncle's farm in Iowa. He had a one acre pond for holding irrigation water that was about a half mile from the house. Muskrats were a constant problem. In the evening after dinner we would go up on a balcony on the second floor and shoot an ancient single shot 22LR in the general direction of a muskrat on the pond. "Aiming" was accomplished by guessing at the barrel angle for drop compensation. Then, guessing at wind deflection, we used the vertical edges of the rear sight to figure out how far to hold left or right. When you are holding with even a whisper of a breez at that distance the "hold" for windage allowed you to see the target. Now, I admit that shooting at a moving muskrat a half mile away with a 22 that looked like it had been used as a tent peg was a fool's errand. But, it was a hoot with me and Tim doing the shooting and Uncle Russ spotting the shots over his every-evening-"two" beers and...every once in a great while... we hit ...the pond. when we turned twelve, Uncle Russ gave us our first master class in economics. He woud let us shoot his 220 Swift so long as we bought our own ammo. We quickly learned that the laughter involved in burning up an entire brick of 22s and MAYBE hitting the pond was worth far more than possibly scaring the crap out of a muskrat with 20 rounds of 220.

I believe the guy. When I was a kid had a Marlin 22, shot 22 LR rounds all the time at 500-700 yards across the Choptank River in Harmony MD. There was a white metal sign on the far bank about the size of a 2 liter bottle. Sure I'd miss 6 out of 10, but its possible. Seems a bit windy to be trying that, haven't watched the entire video, but man I hope he hits it!

100% believe this guy can nail that shot . helluva shooter. Those conditions are absolutely tough for a .22 and he was dropping it all around the target. Mad respect

Like he said, they shot on that range every day, knew the environment and windage, and probably had it memorized exactly where to hold to make that shot semi-consistently in good conditions. I've played HORSE with .22s before and used a similar tactic, once you figure out where to hold and have a landmark to base it on it kind of becomes a cheat code as long as you have consistent ammo. Could he nail the can every shot? Doubtful, but more than once? I believe it all day.

I have a friend like that, he can see things at great distances including rabbits and squirrels. Especially squirrels in the trees from quite far where I'm struggling to see them at all (Near Sighted). We have a running joke: He's Far Sighted and I'm Near Sight and together we have perfect vision.🙂 His sense of smell is the same, especially when it comes to BBQ. We can be travelling down some podunk county rd and he'll start sniffing and perk up looking around. Sure enough,,, several miles down the road there's some rinky dinky BBQ shack or stand. 😁 I never noticed a thing.

I'm a firm believer that he once did it. I believe it. My best was center mass on a golf ball from 40-50 yards, running irons on the ol' .22.

The very fact that he was even consistently close with a shot like that is enough in my book. Shooting irons with a .22lr gun you've never used before on a range you've never been to before on a windy day in front of people you look up to on camera for all the world to see would absolutely be difficult! What a shooter! I really hope he comes back on the channel!

Dude. Growing up in the country constantly shooting every day with the same gun from a very early age makes a huge difference. I grew up in the city shooting a Daisy 880 pellet/BB gun and made amazing shots all the time with open sights. I knew EXACTLY how that gun shot no matter what and it only ever took one shot to hit what I was aiming at. Then moving to the country with a 10/22 and shooting it all the time and going through BRICKS of ammo every summer, I got to where I could easily open-sight anything at 100+ yards, I just had to do some Tennessee wind age and adjust. It would take a full second for the round to hit but it was consistent.
