    I bought Ruger No 1’s in .44 Magnum and 6.5x55, both with 20” barrels and iron sights. Such a blast to just plink with out to 200 yards.

    Had an early one in 30-06. A great firearm. Gave it to my son when I left Alaska. Years later he in turn gave it to his son. It still bring home the venison every fall. We all three practice one shot kills.

    Great looking rifle in one the absolute best antelope cartridges. My cousin has one in 280 Rem that really likes 140 Accubonds in front of IMR 4831. The bullets leave the barrel at 3000fps and group at about 1/2” at 100 yards. He lives in Sheridan, WY and it’s an absolute antelope and mulie killing machine.

    #1 cold bore gun.. will shoot hole for hole if action is left open and bore is completely cool. after that they string and wander. cold bore accuracy is what a #1 is all about.. usually

  • @Docsjeff

    @Docsjeff

    ABSOLUTELY......but at the same time I learned from BR masters your first cold bore will be a hair right,2nd shot a hair left,&3rd shot stacked on top of your first shot.No reason a rifle should be shooting a shotgun “Pattern” instead of a cluster group w/in .300 of each other. Not trying to be a Dick,but I’ve seen what rifles can do.......& this one ain’t doing it with this load. When you have to measure your groups w/dial calipers,then you’ve got a shooter. This AINT one of them!

    I have 3 No.1's, all 1-V's. 220 Swift, 6mm Rem & 7mm Rem Mag. I have a love-hate relationship with them. (just like women) they are all beautiful but each one is completely different. they are finicky and require a lot of work to make them shoot - worthy of keeping. all have floated forehands, really high quality optics, Jard - 2.5 - 3-0 lb triggers, harmonic accurizing screws. And, I have worked up way too many loads to find just the right one. with all that said, I will buy at least a couple more, just to do it all over again. Why you ask? like I said, it is the love-hate thing!

    Had a 1B and a 1V both 25-06 (still kicking my own butt for selling them). I found that if you rest the forearm near its back end, nearest to the reciver, the guns shot groups improved. This is because the forearm and the guns hanger weren't flexing as much under recoil.

    I have one of these in .223. The keys to accuracy are: glass bed the fore end hangar to free float the barrel, and use a Lee Collet die to resize the casings. After that, you can get amazing accuracy out of them.

    ammo makes a big difference. I have a rem mountain rifle in 25-06 that sprays hornadys superformance all over the paper. changed to Federals with Speer bullets and you would not think it was the same rifle. My advice, is to get into reloading and develop a load that you rifle likes and stick with it. My Rem loved Hornady light magmums but then they stopped making them and that is when i discovered not all ammo is the same.

    Just received a mint #1 in 243 cal as a present. It says 200th year anniversary on the barrel, so I assume it is around a 1976. As many have reported, the eye relief on the 1/4rib is a puzzle to figure out to avoid the head creep, so I ordered a set of Ruger extended rings and then will figure out the scope. I had hoped to mount a super clean Redfield Widefield 3x9x40 low-pro on it. I need the scope to sit behind the safety to get a full scope picture. I hope it shoots better than the rifle in this video. I don't reload so I'll start with quality ammo $$$.

    I have one I bought in 1982. I've put 673 rounds through it, and have killed a number of varmints, and three deer with it. It's fav load is the Speer 87 SPFB over H-4350 for 3389 fps. It will group this load into 1/2 inch. Most other loads are around 1". It also shoots Noslers and Hornadys well.

    Nice rifle. I have a Vanguard S2 in 25-06. Great cartridge. How is your rifle grouping at 100 yards? I need to vary my OAL but with those 115grn Ballistic pics you showed I get .80-1.0 inches at 100 yards with 51.0, 51.5 and 52.0 of both Reloader 22 and H4831sc. Try Barnes TTSX bullets too. They made my rifle a half inch rifle.

    Wuthrich10 cool. That’s about what my Weatherby has done. I haven’t done a lot factory but I did run some Hornady American whitetail through it and it shot right at an inch. It certainly doesn’t shoot bad but it’s been one of the more picky rifles I have loaded for. The Barnes are pricy but really shoot well. Keep us updated and good luck.

I have only been able to shoot at a short distance but it seems to be relatively accurate with Federal Premium Nosler partitions. Your rifle looks very nice and I'm certain you will love it! The Remington 25-06 is a fast, flat shooting round that is excellent for hunting up to deer sized game.

    My #1-V in 223 shoots sub 0.5MOA 100 yards. So does my #1 RSI (full stock) in 243. The Shooter’s set up is poor. If he used a rear bag instead of hand-holding it, he’d have a much better group. I put Jard triggers in both mine. The factor trigger sucks.

    Nosler 85 grain Ballistic Tip. 54 grains of 4350. Seat them out to touch the lands. Start shooting .5 - 1.0 MOA all day long. Oh - and slow down. You’re shooting too fast.

    Quit wasting your time and money buying Hornady ammo....I have never seen so much hype with such disappointing accuracy....That also goes with their reloading components...Like others have said reload for your best accuracy..Go with Sierra, Berger and the likes for the bullets and Lapua, Norma for the brass...
