King of Single Shots: Ruger No. 1 Rifle Review
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
“When you only have one shot, make it count.” That’s Ruger’s tagline for their venerable No. 1 family of single-shot, falling-block centerfire rifles. Though produced in a limited number of calibers each year, there’s a good reason these one-shot rifles have continued to claim real estate in the hearts of hunters for over 55 years. Here’s why you ought to consider adding a No. 1 to your collection if you haven’t already.

I own one in 45/70, 375 h&h, and 30-06. Love these rifles.
She always does a great job! The Ruger No. 1 is very interesting. Great job! Thank you.

Thanks so much for your kind words, Gary!
I've heard about Ruger #1's my whole life, but just never really looked into them. This video did a GREAT job explaining the gun.
Another Kristen video to brighten my day! I have a Henry Single Shot in .243 and I love the darn thing!
I own 2 No1s. First one my grandpa left to me after he passed. I was so impressed with the gun I purchased another in a different caliber years later. 25-06 and .270. From small varmints to big deer it’s my go-to hunting rifle. One shot is all you get
I picked up a 1994 in .45-70 today. It’s incredible.

I shot my friend's Browning High Wall 45-70 classic single shot. That's my favorite falling block rifle. A timeless beauty.

My .45/70 made in 1997, nice wood, bought new, shoots just fine with bullets from 300gr upwards including cast paper patched. Great woods rifle. Have taken plenty of deer and a few boar with it.🇬🇧
I've always admired the Ruger #1. I have three of them: 1-V in 25-06; 1-H in .458 Winchester Magnum, and 450 BushMaster (this one is stainless). I always enjoy your videos Kristen!

I have one in 338 win mag. Too much horsepower for whitetail but it worked great on the mule deer I shot in Montana last year
Well done, great video!
Great info as always. All ways enjoy your videos.

Thanks for not having ADS!
Great video
Ms kristin spoke about the weekend warriors spouting off about saying things like who wants a single shot well thats an easy question to answer me i want another single shot rifle i happen to find them quite handy
Great vid
I own 2- 9.3x74R, and 6.5x55 with a 450/400 3" NE heading my way. The 9.3 hated Norma ammunition, though once I played around with reloading I was able to find the "sweet spot" for both Barnes X and Nosler partitions.
As many I love my number 1. This lady is spot on. Thank you.
Great video Kristin, really enjoyed it. JT

I agree… it’s a great rifle.. I use a 270 but I only use one round and I have meat in the fridge..
Fantastic group! I'm intrigued by the falling block action now. Reminds me of shooting airguns when I was a kid.
I have had several over the years and LOVE them. My current rifle is a 25'06 and it is very accurate. I love hunting with it. Makes you take your time and choose a careful shot.

Why would you say it makes you take your time with a careful shot as opposed to other rifles?

What ammo does your 25 ot 06 like? Do you hand load? Powder, Gr.Bullet? I'll have to check ballistics. Are you good out to say 300 yards?
That is one sweet looking rifle
Love my #1 and Burris scopes.
My 2506 is deadly out to 700 yards and beyond one hole group's as well 5 shot groups
Own one in 25 06 it's so accurate
Thanks for the review of the rifle. Left eye dominant and my right eye degenerated so I am interested in the Ruger No. 1!
really like the furniture on that rifle 👌
I like the Ruger number one but I think the Winchester 1885 is a little better. My biggest gripe with the number one is scope mounting. It is hard to get the scope mounted back far enough for good eye relief without having to crawl the stock so much. It did help on a number one safari chambered for 450-400 nitro express, I mounted an intermediate eye relief/scout scope on it, in its standard rings and had perfect eye relief. Usually I have to get offset rings and select particular scopes to get proper eye relief without having to crawl the stock so much.
@russellkeeling4387

I've had this same problem and have purchased the offset rings but I have found that a different scope works well without the offset. The #1 I have now is a .35 Whelen so I don't have a real high power scope but a dangerous game scope 1.5 to 5 power and it sets back far enough to not need the offset rings. I never found the offset to be a problem though.
I have a grade 1 Browning 1885, High wall, in 30-06. 4X leupold scope. Beautiful rifle, great for bench rest shooting, and accurate. I have only used it out to 500 meters, on steel sheep silhouettes. It takes a 180 grain bullet, a few seconds, to the target. Very nice rifle to shoot.
I have two of them currently. A 25'06 and a 30'06. I have owned a 22-250 in the past. I love her commentary on the gun but will say I have hunted with them for years and never have learned or had to reload quickly. I take my time and make the shot count. That is the whole idea of a single shot.
Most #1's takes work in the floating the fore end. After you float it and work up a load they are a classic
Canadian assult rifle right there

Yep. Canada has a mess going on.
One of the best looking rifles ever made. Yet, I've never owned one.
Nice group
I’ve always found accuracy issues on modern rifles are fixed by tightening the loose nut at the back of the stock.
Seems like excellent craftsmanship and performance from Ruger, but idk if I could personally justify a rifle like that for as heavy as it is.
I would like to see special season for deer.
Wouldn’t be surprised if No 1 production is finished for good.
It is a very Christmassy gift. If I ever came across one.
I'm looking for one in .338 Lapua Mag.
Hmmm...bet that would be nice in a Swift!
Had one bought in early 1970s in 6 remington. Dropped many woodchucks in nwohio Probably the most beautiful rifle I ever owned. Not the best shooter,,tended to stitch with barrel heating…..
I am right handed but left eye dominate so I shoot left handed. Being right handed a left hand bolt gun doesn't work for me. Over the years I have become able to reload for a follow up shot as fast with the #1 as I can with any of my bolt guns.
Ruger I think makes their own barrels now. At one time No. 1's had barrels by Wilson. I've owned a few. In my experience with the older ones, one third are okay, one third are really accurate and one third are horrid. Like barely able to hold minute of pie plate at 100 yards. I kept a couple that were really good shooters. I do love the design. I have an old Burris Signature 2x8 32mm scope on one of mine. Never seen a 2x8 like that before.
Would love a Ruger #1 in 460 smith and Wesson and in 416 Remington magnum for large dangerous game and because it’s awesome round

I was going to buy a Ruger NO. 1 in 30-06. No luck . Ruger does not make it 30-06. Why??
@skycop3855
7 күн бұрын
I do have one in 30-06 bought many years ago. They do show up .
The first 6K rifles do not have a prefix on the serial number. Find one of those. Cost more than a M70 back in the day. There rifles have Douglas air gauged barrels on them. Alos high grade walnut with a pistol grip that is unlike the later rifles and has a vastly different checkering pattern on the grip as well.. If a Ruger attains collectable status, these early rifles are the ones to own.
*.204 @ 400 yards... I'll believe it when I see it*
I have to wonder if there is a way to make the latch on the lever stronger. My Ruger #3 does not have a latch on it and the lever never has opened the action when I've been carrying the rifle. Both #1's however do. I must be careful with the rifle when carrying it because the action easily opens and drops the round somewhere as I hike. Is there a stronger spring available on the lever latch to keep this from happening?
@jeanmorin3247
2 ай бұрын
I have to say that this has never happened to me despite the fact that I also found that that latch could be a bit more solid. What has happened once to me was that the tang safety was pulled up without me noticing, perhaps by a branch. That is more serious. I check it often. I like the fact that it does not make noise when pushed to shoot, but the reverse motion can be hazardously smooth.
Haven’t been made in two years…..
I have a 7Mag blued. Also have a SS .375 Ruger. Great accurate Rifles.
Mine looks like the one in the video.... only mine is in 375Ruger. Had one in 340 Weatherby. Sadly I traded her off :(
I wish Ruger would make an all weather in .308. They would get my $

Check out the scout rifle in .308. It’s my current hunting rifle, taken 4 Texas deer so far, longest shot was just under 200yds. Mine has the mid mounted scout scope so that I could retain the iron sights, but you can remove the rear sight and mount a conventional scope with no problem. It shoots sub 1” at 100yds.
May be below 0.3 MOA
Mine is a1-A in .275Rigby. It's not for sale
Ruger .good .
I would love one of these rifles -- if they were not so pricey.
I had that rifle. Harmonic vibration was terrible couldn’t get to hold under 6 inches in 100 yards.
Sadly this gun is soon gonna he banned up here in Canada. Just because it could be chambered in cartridge that is “to big for civilians”

Wonder how she’d do shooting iron sights? Why doesn’t Ruger install irons on all their model No 1s? What happens if the scope breaks in the field? You then have a useless gun.
Meh, the T/C contender & encore line will always be my favorite.

Very nice lady
No No1s have been made for a least a few years. Probably done for good . Ruger has little to no interest in making them anymore
My no.1 is chambered in a 243. I do love the looks of it. The issue with mine is the scope mounting system is off. Really off!! I had to put a scope with max turret adjustment. If I didn't love this rifle I would be extremely pissed. Nothing ruger should be proud of. Just warning you.
