    Got a very helpful and simple tip that dramatically improves the experience of the LCP2 at the range as an owner of one. Purchase and use the extended mags that Ruger offers for it. Makes a world of difference. Gives you a full four finger purchase on the firearm. I purchased two at first to try them out and ended up purchasing several as they are all I use anymore when shooting at the range or carrying. Only time I use the stock mags is when my clothing choice has a higher propensity to print.

    I'd take that Diamondback DB9 G4 any day all day over that Ruger. Just not a fan of the 380 ACP. I know it works for James Bond, but it's not for me. I carry a Kahr PM9 with a Crimson Trace Laser. I love it! A lot more expensive than these two though. Shooting those pocket carry guns reminds me of the time I was at my gun club and there was a guy sighting in his lightweight 300 Win Mag Mountain Rifle getting ready for an Elk hunt. He told me, "This thing is only good for 2 things, carrying, and killing." "It is no fun to shoot!"

    Have owned both, I sold the LCP to my dad and bought the DB9 G3 to replace it. The LCP kicks in the palm of your hand like a .38 special, is just a little too small for my hands, and the magazine release is very easily engaged while shooting which causes the next round in the mag to not chamber (creating a tap-rack situation, which is harder with a tiny gun). Oh and .380 ammo is twice as expensive. The DB9 shoots 9mm of course, which I have and will always have plenty of. It felt kind of awkward and long from backstrap to under the trigger guard, but only at first; since a good bit of shooting and a lot of dry firing it feels good in my hand now. The recoil is definitely snappy, but less so for me than the LCP; it has more of a recoil impulse over my hand along the slide instead of straight into the palm of my hand. I am irked that I can't put night sights on the G3 model, but it's not completely necessary but a preference. I would never shoot +P ammo out of either, it's nonsense for guns so small, so that isn't a factor for me. Overall the biggest thing was the LCP 2 mag release engaging during fire, causing malfunctions. I trained around this and fired many rounds through it without it occurring, but I could not risk my life and carry this pistol because my training could wane under stress and the pistol could malfunction. Not worth it!!! Ruger needs to make heavier mag release springs available.

  • @BrassBashers

    @BrassBashers

    5 жыл бұрын

    Also I never use any of the pointed extended mag plates on my pistol because they always print, either when I appendix or pocket carry; but I HAD to with the LCP to get a good 2 fingered grip. With the DB9 I use the regular plate; it's not flush or extended to a point like the new G4 mags, it's got a little lip that is flat on the bottom so I can get 2 fingers on it. The DB9 is slightly longer and slightly heavier in pocket carry, but not enough of a different to matter for me. I bought these guns for summer pocket carry, and will purchase a G4 DB9 because they are upgraded and only $230 currently 😁

    The real big difference is that the LCP doesn’t use stainless and the finish is trash so when you carry it often it will rust on you badly, the DB9GEN4 is stainless and the finish is very durable. Also the the LCP has like pre 1950s sights and a action that is exposed on the back so that all of your dirt on your fingers drips into it lol. All around I think the DB9GEN4 is the better gun in all aspects after carrying both for years. Ruger needs to release a version that is stainless and striker fired with actual sights for it to compare. The only thing I feel sucks on the DB9gen4 is the recoil spring is good for about 500 rounds of mild 9mm before it’s too loose.

    Put a Crimson Trace Green laser on that LCP2, and it's deadly from 10 yards in. I have the LCP2, the DB9 Gen 4, the Glock 42 and a Sig P-356 (with a green laser) and I rotate them all depending on the size of the pants pockets I'm wearing that day since I exclusively pocket carry. If I had to choose only one of them to carry, it would be the Glock 42, fits my hand perfectly, I shoot it the most accurate and the recoil is the mildest of them all. Afterall it's not so much what you hit them with, as where you hit them! I exclusively carry Inceptor ARX ammo in all of them, keeps the weight down, yet gives as devastating a wound as any of the hollow point ammo.

    The LCP 2 I had would malfunction if I held my hand wrong. Mag release spring was too weak. Had to adjust my grip and teach myself how to hold my thumb away from the mag release button so as not to engage it. DEAD IN THE WATER for a carry gun. Plus I got sick of paying 2x the cost of 9mm for one .380 pistol when I have 9mm laying around everywhere. Enter the DB9 Gen3. Just as light. The LCP2 was actually too thin for me. The DB9 has what feels like a weird grip when you first pick it up, but your hand gets used to it. NEITHER of these guns are for beginners, or your gfs/wives who are new shooters. They kick like .38 snub noses. Where they exceed over snub nose revolvers is in practical accuracy, with both pistols easily scoring full mag hits at 10 yard targets in quick secession. The LCP2 is capable of chest sized groups at 50 yards with slow fire, though it is very difficult with the milled sights; mine happened to be straight shooting otb. The DB9 Gen3 was capable of the same 50 yard shots, and I could even squeeze 5/7 on the 100 yard gong target. Outstanding for a gun that weighs 11 oz unloading and can fit it any man's pants pocket (women's pocket size may vary). So for me the LCP2 was not dependable for carry as the unintentional mag release will cause a dead gun... I carried the DB9 in multiple stores today and never felt undergunned (7+6) or uncomfortable.

    I get that your a tough guy but the DB9GEN4 kicks like a fresh Raped horse on nickle beer night. The slide feels like it’s going to shoot into your eye if you attempt +P or shoot European brand 9mm.

    Why are we comparing a 9mm and a 380 ?

  • @kenneth3753

    Unfortunately, I have the db9 and have had a major problem. I really want to like the gun but reliablity is king. After the second time to Diamondback, it seems ok but I can't trust it. I have found my perfect balance in the Hellcat. I, recently, purchased the lcp2 to replace my Taurus TCP that has a false reset. I actually love the trigger on the Taurus but could be disastrous in a defence situation. After having the lcp2 at the range, I really like it.

    Both of these guns are intended for only one purpose to save your life in a shitty situation where have no choice but use a gun to defend your life … range guns they are not ! So snappy is not an issue

    Diamondback DB9 gen 4 what a disaster from all the you tube reviews I thought it was be a good pocket gun for ccw carry, i was dead wrong It checks all the boxes for being ok except the most valuable ones that you would want to count your life on., extra hard magazine release button you will never make the reload in time with the same side gun hand, push the hard to release recessed magazine button and magazine strip it, with your opposite hand, my finger tips are red and numb trying to get a simple magazine release to strip the magazine. Charging the gun to chamber a round the, recoil spring is so stiff, i had to charge it from the front serration to get enough leverage to charge the gun putting my hand to close to the front and the barrel for my liking. I cut the corner of my knuckle blead for hours, first time I charged it. the gun came shipped dry to the bone no lube what so ever. I find this troubling Glocks come already. greased. The factory 6 round magazine only holds 5 rounds, the mag will hold 6 but is too tight and the top round nose dives before going into the chamber.. I got the burnt bronze model a nice looking gun. I out about 340 dollars for this experiment, I would rather have a hi point than this garbage, this gun will get you killed, I wouldn't never consider there AR platform or any other offering from this company. if there peddling this crap. I waited till the 4th gen to try this debacle, i guess the other 3 gens didn't work either, the concept of this gun is a great idea, just the wrong company keeps failing at fixing all the same inherent problems. I know what I'm talking about have been around handguns all my life and was a LEO/ range officer for 10 years previously before. I would go with a Ruger every time LCP 2 or the LCP max, or Kahr CM9 Ruger max 9 even the old ruger P89 over this.

    Thanks for your taking time out to explain. I've always wanted the ruger lcp II 380acp but I initially purchased the ruger lcp II 22-lr at the local academy since 22-lr was affordable and I really enjoyed it. I used it as a training platform for the ruger lcp II 380acp. The db9 was literally out of stock everywhere for a while, and I emailed diamondback just to find out about the db9 production status, surprisingly, I never got any response back. Even S&W or Ruger customer service would have emailed me back for any inquiries whatsoever even if I'm not their customer. Thank God I haven't purchased the ruger lcp II 380acp yet because I was on the verge of buying it, then Ruger introduced the Ruger LCP MAX. I'm just waiting for the price to come down and get one. Thanks for your detailed contribution.
