The New Diamondback DB9 Gen 4 Full Review

Спорт

The new DiamondbCK DB9 Gen 4 is here! This is a T&E Gun straight from Diamondback, it will be out on the market in March. The is a Plus P rated little 9mm pocket gun from Diamondback, with a 6+1 capacity. There seems to be a lot of quality built into this inexpensive little gun, including metal 3 dot (visible & easily used) sights! (P.S., Hammer wants to keep calling it the Aston Martin DB9, LOL. He liked the gun too!)
We plan to include this in a few comparison videos as well.
Watch for our upcoming review of the (already out on the market) updated Diamondback AM2 9mm pistol as well (another T&E gun.)

I can't believe how cheap these are. Freind of mine has a gen 3 that's never malfunctioned in any way and has been fed a steady diet of all things cheap. It even fires Blaser aluminum cases with no problem. It's rarely even somewhat clean and it shoots very well at 15 yds. You can easily hit a pop can with it at that range. I'll be getting a gen 4 for myself this year. I've got a large amount of carry guns, but this one fits right in between my Sig P365 and my Ruger LCPII.

Always one of you guys that think when a person has a complaint on a handgun its because it dont say glock.. might be a shocker to you. But NOBODY wants to buy a gun and it have issues. Nobody.every gun ive ever bought. I wanted to work. Hoped it worked. Tried to make them work if they didnt.. Could it be thst such a cheap gun might have quality issues sometimes??? Or does everybody complaining doing so because they bought a db9 and wanted a glock,??? Fun fact.. this is a glock copy and they still screwed it up.

I bought a DB nine GEN four and it started dropping mags after 150 rounds or so. I shoot multiple small handguns such as the Taurus TCP and Sig 365. Both sites were loose out of the box. The firearm could very easily be pushed slightly out of battery and would not return fully into battery so they sent me a new recoil spring and guide rod. I waited over three months for the guide rod and spring. I called diamondback and they sent me a new trigger assembly as well. No directions came with the trigger assembly. I installed the trigger assembly in the firearm. After test firing the trigger pin started walking out. After talking to diamondback they said that they forgot to send me a new trigger pin. What came with the trigger pack was just a “guide pin”, so I took my trigger pin out of the old trigger assembly. I had a couple other frame pins walking as well so I decided to send the gun in to diamondback for repair. After a couple months I received the firearm and ran a couple hundred trouble free rounds through the gun. But now I am having the same thing happen. The nose of the round jams on top of the chamber and then the mag drops. I never even ran plus +p’s through it. I really wanted to like this firearm it shoots really well for such a small handgun. I wonder if the frame flexes when firing causing the Mag to drop. Make sure that if you slightly (manually) push the slide out of battery that it returns all the way to the forward position. I really recommend that you put a few hundred rounds through this firearm and make sure it is reliable. Mine is not.

It looks nice on the outside....but function wise and internals im talking about the trigger parts nothing has changed. Ive had 2 of these in the past where the triggers literally broke off within 100 rounds on each pistol. On gen 1 and the gen 2/3. The two little "trigger ears" connected to the trigger once taken apart are not made to withstand the "shock" I am guessing. Maybe not on all DB9s....but Ive read alot of reports where others have also had the same problem.

I had a Kahr PM40 for several years. It was (and is-I sold it to a friend) a very accurate, exceptionally reliable, great carry gun. However, it and the PM9 (And cheaper but nearly identical CM9) are worlds apart in weight. The Kahrs are also larger. If you put each in a front pocket of shorts, you'll quickly need a belt or tight-fitting shorts with the Kahr and it will bounce all over while it's there. The Diamondback will nestle in much better and only move just a little when walking. In a OWB or IWB holster there is far less issue, but the weight still shows up to haunt you by the end of the day due to the heavier gun wanting to move around more if not secured very tightly.

It's a neat little gun, but I can't hit the broadside of a barn with it..🙄 I shoot all my new pistols at 20ish feet from the get-go generally with no problems. It has to be my grip, I shoot it two feet low?🤔 more range time.. The mag release is definitely not easy to push. The craftsmanship on mine looks good, my sight didn't move (from another KZreadr). I have less than 100 rds through it, and it bruised the meaty part of my hand in between my thumb and index finger. I do have big hands. The recoil is very sharp with standard 115gr Federal FMJ ammunition. I have not shot +P's yet😛. From what I have shot it, it's been reliable. No FTF or FTE and has locked open every time. I also only shot it without the pinky extension, I'm thinking that's the reason I can't hit my 8" steel it definitely jumps in my hand and that could be the reason for the bruising also...

Rich - my father-in-law has the previous generation and I got him a Pachmayr grip sleeve for it, which helped tremendously with felt recoil. If you're having trouble with point of aim/point of impact it could be the sights or maybe just grip and trigger control. I had a LCP2 and didn't hit very well with it and my problem was just too big of hands for the size gun. I ended up getting rid of it and have a Glock 42 that is a much better fit for me and much better accuracy. It's also not very hard to conceal, but it is 380 acp.

Well as he showed at the end the Mossberg would be a good bit larger than the DB9, as the Mossberg is dimensionally the same as a G43.

@Rick V that's a really silly reason to not buy a gun...because 1) those plastic mags are about as strong as metal and 2) the Mossberg accepts Glock 43 mags...so if you don't like the plastic buy the Glock mags

How does that compare to the P365? My friends and family are Glock boys. Like me I love Glock but the P365 took my heart.

jason hyde this is a 9mm the size of a 380. This is not like sig or Glock 2 different ball parks. This is Taurus quality gun they had many issues the first 2 generations they got the 3rd and 4th gen done right.

Think twice before you buy it. Mine arrived from Bud's 2 weeks ago. I have put some 300 rounds thru it. At first dropping the mag was not a problem; now it is. And when it comes to ammo I've had problems with GECO, Winchester, Federal HST and Fiocchi. Truthfully I don't know what she likes to be fed. Bad reviews are coming out now so be patient and don't waste your money like I did out of an impulse. Yes, it looks great. . . . . . . . . .reminds me of a girlfriend I had in college (half a century ago).

@Boatright474 Not a range gun trigger matters little. Sccy has a stainless slide too which is important in Texas because IWB means corrosion. 2 10 round mags in the box and 15 round promag 30 bucks with tax and shipping stcks about 2 inches so i have a home self defense capability of a glock and a conceal carry at the same time. Add everything up and the Sccy is cheaper and you get more. I was planning on buying the DB 9 but fortunately for me it was out of stock and the Sccy was in stock and on sale at Academy for 200 dollars. Sccy found a tweet of mine about buying one and sent me a link to claim a free mag and pistol cleaning mat which came in the mail a couple of weeks ago. I thought about buying parts that are likely to break to keep as spares but will probably just buy a second one so i will have 5 10 round mags and 1 15 round mag. Total cost for 2 pistols and 6 mags about 500 much less than a glock.

I can see me choosing this over the sccy. This is a niche gun, and it scratches my itch. Smallest 9mm around, with seemingly good quality.

??...... this is already the smallest 9...., where you expect it to be a .380. What? , a 40 cal gun weighing 13 oz? Like to see folks do double taps or follow-up shots with that.

You know what pisses me off about this new DB9 gen 4 a little bit, okay maybe a little bit more than a little bit. A lot of us including myself recently went out and bought the Gen 3 and then all the sudden it's like oh okay we got your money and now we decided to make the pistol the way it should have been in the first place, WTF. Diamondback should offer registered owners of the previous-generation some kind of a rebate deal. I feel like I'm a victim of the old shuck and Jive.

All good manufacturers update their line, Glock is on Gen 5 as I type this.. It is done with cars, guns, computers and everything else, I look at this process as the manufacturers learning what was and was not optimal and improving their product.

The Problem(s) with Diamondback DB9, the Taurus G2, the new Mossberg MC1, etc. is: - Low quality - often inaccurate - in many cases not so good reliability *You don't get something for nothing.* After you buy the above DB9 sooner or later you will realize this. Just saying.

A sharp, small knife blade (carefully manipulated) trims the 'fence' a bit (at an angle) from center/front to rear, making for easier slide lock manipulation. Same for the tiny mag release button!

This is a pocket gun. Probably best used as a back-up gun, not as your primary carry.
