Rug Doctor is really on to something with this machine. The suction ability is far far better than the other home machines on the market - Hoover, Bissell etc. But they still need to make some changes to it. A) As Billy stated below, you can't use the scrub feature without it applying water/cleaning solution. As a result, either the carpet will get soaked even with all that suction, or you have to scrub it yourself with a long handle brush. At least that's how I've been cleaning mine. They could add a switch to the machine with 2 positions-1 for Scrub&Suction - the brushes would scrub and 2- Suction only (brushes off). B) They need a separate location for the cleaning solution. The way it works now, you mix the solution with your clean hot water. That's fine unless you want to rinse the carpet after cleaning it. Even though the suction is great, I don't want to leave my carpet damp with a soapy water residue. It'll just attract more dirt. To rinse now after cleaning, you have to stop, rinse all the cleaning solution residue out of the tank, add just hot water, then you can rinse the carpet. The clean tank could be changed to have a smaller separate compartment for solution and they could add another switch also with 2 positions, 1- 'Clean' - solution and water is dispersed when pressing a trigger and 2- 'Rinse' - clean water only is dispersed. The trigger lets you release liquid when you choose to. While I do believe it's the best of all the home carpet cleaners, it could still be improved on. I hope they'll keep working to make it better. (I do like it much better than their bulky rental units.)

3 out of 5 stars. just bought one today for $260 with the platinum pure for pets soap $20. absolutely does no good for cat pee. go over the areas a bunch and it smells even worse. really wish i had my own professional carpet steam cleaning equipment or no carpet at all. the reason i say 3 stars is due to functionality. brush roller only works when applying soap/water. that alone left me feeling highly disappointed. when you need more scrubbing less spraying, you cant. the extra sprayer in the back is actually dumb to me. why not just a flow control for the front sprayer? glad i can shut it off. suction is pretty good, tries to lift the carpet. does leave the carpet dryer than i expected. handle is pretty well designed, wish it had a few more adjustment angles but not super necessary. spray button actually a little difficult to hold down enough to activate sprayer/brush roller. good length cord and quality better than my Royal professional vacuum. tanks are easy enough to deal with but a lil bigger would have been nice. seems quieter than the rental machines but something else i realized after the purchase, no on board fluid heating. guess thats just one more part to fail in the long run. overall its probably the best machine ill find at any walmart but i think the videos make it seem better than it really is. leaves me contemplating selling or returning it and ponying up the cash for the bissel big green machine. but thats $200 more.

The machine isnt releasing the water is it the machine or am i doing something wrong??

The water only comes out when pushing the Soap and Scrub button on top of the handle. Also make sure both the water tanks are securely connected to the machine. If you still aren't getting any water release, there's probably something wrong with the machine.

it took me awhile to get mine going make sure you fill water to the line and make sure that straw inside the tank is not straight i curved mine alittle and i was rockin and rolling

I didn't get any coupons with this product. when I called corporate they don't know what I was talking about. chances are I am not going to get those coupons.

It works great and I got mine for 249.00

Some folks put the solution in spray bottle and let sit 10 minutes then no solution in the tank. I gave this machine my rugs are a mess but wotkng on them as rugs are going over them

You have to use a spray bottle refilling that tank up every 2 runs is a time consuming haha

Too bad they did not fired up the rental machine for comparison.

I’ve been renting the rental machine for many years now, and finally bought this upright rug doctor, and honestly they work both very great. Only difference would be the clean and dirty water tank capacity.. both clean the carpets absolutely perfect. Love my rug doctor

This machine really, REALLY works - its performance exceeds all the hype. It can suck the carpet right off your floor. The only problem is the hand tool - it is worthless. Buy this for your carpets and buy with confidence. You will love it. It cleans better than anything I have ever had and cleans better than rented Rug Doctor units. Don't try to clean upholster - the hand tool is inconvenient and has no suction.

Don't get me wrong I love rug doctor but look at the giant pool of water and spit out on the floor

Bought one a few years ago. And only used it like 5 time and it doesn't work anymore 😡👎

ALSO- the reason that carpet is not totally soaked isn't the vacuum. The vacuum on that things garbage. Its the fact that the machine hardly has any pressure to spray out the solution. Notice that the dirty tanks only takes about a gallon.. My portable takes fifteen gallons clean, and fifteen dirty. And the chemicals they try and push on you are absolutely insane. If you get stuck with one of these, for the love of god go check out Chemspec's chemicals or another reputable company and get better, far less diluted chemicals for ten percent the cost..

That's just surface dirt. It is will come out easily. Test it with ground-in dirt.
