Why does tennis need to control the crowd in such a way. Do they want people to keep coming in large numbers. What sport does that it's ridiculous. every other sport has to deal with loud booing crowds and there is no one telling them to shut up, so why is it they can't handle it. If it bugs these weak players so much then go back to playing at a club where you have a handful of people watching then you can play with your quiet non-crowd.

Djokovic never got this much hate of a reaction. Serena was playing well despite the constant booing, and her focused only got distracted because of Justine cheating. No doubt she would have won the match if it wasnt because of that. Martina was a great talent, but she aint Steffi Graf. Graf is one of the greatest ever in the history of the game, Hingis was never on her level. Also there is no need to bring up Djokovic over an unrelated issue. Are all french people arrogant? Ofcourse not! Are some people from other countries arrogant? Ofcourse yes! On tendency the french are just more arrogant in numbers and by percentage than others. And that is because of culture and history. They are the country where the idea of european nationalism - which ended the era of monarchy and started the era of democracy in europe before the germans took it too far - was born, so it's not that surprising. They are very aware of this too. I have been there for years and have been in conversations with many different people about this stuff a lot. They told me what I just told you. I have to disaggree strongly. It was NOT the audience that was rude, it was Martina Hingis. And she brought on herself, that the audience was against her. You see - i loved to watch Martina Hingis play, but she had the wrong attitude. She often mocked other players - for example Amelie Mauresmo (a beloved lesbian french player), when Martina said that "she looked and played like a man." RUDE! And before this game she stated, that this game would show, that "the time of Steffi Graf is over:" RUDE AGAIN - and Steffi Graf was beloved by the french, too. So - Martina turned the audience against her - by choice. And when she constantly complained on THIS match about refery dicisions and even crossed the net to go to the oppenents tennis side - a thing, which is strinctly forbidden and which i have NEVER seen again, then and only then she was mocked by the audience. Well, and I think she kind of deserved it. And maybe - there is a story for the other players a well... And what IS really rude - are the racist comment here. SHAME ON YOU!

Sorry but for me nothing can justify the rudeness of the crowd, Martina Hingis always has the Courage to say what she is thinking and for me this was always the truth and not rude. The umpire was really bad and there are many decisions against Hingis. To cross the net was a mistake from her, but Hingis only wants to fight for her right with her sence of justice. The crowd boos a 18th year old charming girl down and make her cry. This behaviour from the crowd was so disgraceful. It was a wild, bad mob who only wants to make Martina Hingis mental down. This is unforgivable!!!

While I admit, that the crown were over reacting to Hingis', I have to put a few things into perspective. Firstly Hingis was a cocky and arrogant and very unsportmenslike in those days. Secondly, I think she underestimated the standinf Graf had at roland Garros and was, at that point, just and immature teenager and overwhelmed about the entire situation. Hingis was a great player and in later years a great person, but what happend to here on that day, she brought upon herself for the most part. Still, and a absolutley acknowledge that fact, the crowd should have been more empathetic towards here, recognizing that she was just a young girl that didn't know any better. As far as I recall Graf even mentions that in her acceptance speech later on!

Bull Lea During the American Revolutionary War (American War of Independence; 1775-1783), France recognized and allied herselfwith the United States in 1778, declared war on Great Britain, and sent men, money and items to help the new republic. French intervention made a decisive contribution to the United States victory in the war. Motivated by revenge for its losses in the Seven Years' War, France began secretly sending supplies in 1775. Spain and the Netherlands joined France, making it a global war in which the British had no major allies. France got its revenge, but materially it gained little and was left with 1,000 million livre in debts. The French goal was to weaken Britain, both to keep it from getting too powerful and to exact revenge for the defeat in theSeven Years' War. After the American capture of the British invasion army at Saratoga in 1777, and after the French navy had been built up, France was ready. In 1778 France recognized the United States of America as a sovereign nation, signed a military alliance, went to war with Britain, built coalitions with the Netherlands and Spain that kept Britain without a significant ally of its own, provided the Americans with grants, arms and loans, sent a combat army to serve under George Washington, and sent a navy that prevented the second British army from escaping from Yorktown in 1781. In all, the French spent about 1.3 billion livres (in modern currency, approximately thirteen billion U.S. dollars) to support the Americans directly, not including the money it spent fighting Britain on land and sea outside the U.S.[2]French aid proved vital in the victory of the Americans seeking independence from Britain. The U.S. gained much territory at the 1783 Treaty of Paris, but France made only limited gains, returning some of its wartime conquests. It did get its revenge and made a new ally and trading partner. However the high debt France accumulated was a major cause of the French Revolution in 1789. Now you go and read a fuckin Book Asshole!

the truth is Hingis made homophobic statement after french player Amélie Mauresmo came out few months before this match. Hingis made also stupid statements about Steffi Graff. This explain the rudness of the crowd. I'm not embarassed, Hingis deserves this rudness.
