Djokovic mastered the crowd ranting and was winning matches. It's tough to focus in such scenarios
@secrets.2952 жыл бұрын
Djokovic never got this much hate of a reaction. Serena was playing well despite the constant booing, and her focused only got distracted because of Justine cheating. No doubt she would have won the match if it wasnt because of that. Martina was a great talent, but she aint Steffi Graf. Graf is one of the greatest ever in the history of the game, Hingis was never on her level. Also there is no need to bring up Djokovic over an unrelated issue. Sorry to say, but this is why people despise Djoko's fans. They are too loud and all over the place it becomes annoying. I have nothing against Djokovic, just his fans.

Reality: Nothing - good - in common between Graf and Henin. Henin was cherished by almost every partisan crowd because of her one-handed backhand, not because she's French-speaking. I still think Williams did smth really bad to Henin in Miami in 2008 which caused her to retire. The absence of a one-handed backhand in a women's game is indisputable, and it is a result of Henin's first retirement as #1. Bullying or threats, maybe that was the real cause... We will never know the truth, for sure.

Half-true. The crowd was rooting for both players up until the second underarm serve in the 3rd set. And she was annoying, but that was only because Steffi was knowingly defending a bad line call. @E Schuler It's a fact. It's a more latin type passion, but specifically French-latin passion. Not all passions are the same, just as not all politeness are the same. We are not all the same, but the important thing is to respect this and practise "when in Rome, do what the Romans do" when being in different countries. The key is to acknowledge and understand other cultures behaviours and even histories and why they're that way. But overall regarding the French (again a latin culture), they know the off-court issues, gossip and conflicts, that when a bad deed/remark/behaviour is proven to be done by a certain player, then the French don't hold back to "punish" that player when they're on the spot and supporting the other player - especially if the opponent is the one that was earlier disrespected by the player (Hingis speaking badly about Graf months before RG 99). Call it rooting for the underdog. However, they use a situation to unleash it just as they did in the Graf-Hingis final when Hingis started questioning line calls and finally, the underhanded serves. It also didn't help Hingis in that it was Graf's big comeback from her difficult career-theatening injury.
@eschuler65033 жыл бұрын
@@alexsdb9712 I was thinking more Northern French/Dutch 'rude' passion but whatever. French culture is mixed now much like any nation of immigrants. The Franks (a Dutch tribe) settled in Paris and Northern France out of their home base in what is now Wallonia in Belgium; the French language evolved out of Latin in what is now Wallonia in Belgium and fell away from its Latin base even more so after the fall of the Roman empire. The Bretons of Brittany were and still are there and all over France - mostly Northwest - before France even became France. France used to be Gaul during the Roman Empire and gets its name from the Franks - again, a Dutch tribe. Back to tennis, Hingis took many cheap shots at Graf while she was out with an injured knee. The French crowd I'm sure were aware of this, and Hingis was already on their s**t list after some unsavory comments about French tennis player Amélie Mauresmo. It was all quite the perfect storm.
