Me too! I came back to this song after 5 or 6 years after finding all my stuff I saved from being admitted to a hospital when I was around 12 or 13. It’s crazy how I never had plans to live past 18 but I literally put my deposit down for my dream college yesterday. The nostalgia I had rn is insane

when i was in the mental hospital for attempted suicide i was singing this exact song on the floor of my room and one of the nurses, without me knowing, sat a chair in front of my door and watched and listened to me sing. after i finished, she smile and said that she was in a choir for years, and that my voice was lovely. we then talked about music until lunch came. i think about that nurse a lot.. i wonder how she is right now

When I was in the mental hospital they printed out the lyrics to car radio and we read them together in group. I also remember climbing/hanging on the fences at sunset after they let us go outside and we all sang tøp songs together. If I ever meet them I want to tell them how much they meant to us hurting kids. They’ll never know how many lives they’ve saved.

@@skyisfallingdown7196 oh, my experience was awful and traumatizing. that nurse and some of the other kids were the only good part about it. it didnt help at all, and i never want to go back. sorry if this is negative, you asked for my experience. if you find the right place, your experience probably wont be horrible

I moved on from TOP quite a while ago, but their early music still rings fresh in my mind sometimes; no song more so than Ruby. Regional at Best is a masterpiece. I dunno if this will even be seen, but my name is Ruby.. and twenty one pilots saved me from something I wouldn’t be able to take back. My life was so painful, so lonely.. I used to hear stressed out on the radio on those hot summer nights, and I finally looked them up. I was overwhelmed when I discovered all their older songs, hearing Tyler break out into screams and soft hymns, I seriously felt so,, comforted. I knew all their songs like the back of my hand, and when I first discovered Ruby, I really lost it.. hearing Tyler sing so strongly while saying my name, it really, really helped me. I had never been spoken to the way Tyler sings to us. My vision has been worsening throughout the years, and my biggest concern is never being able to see my own art anymore- or my pets. But Tyler and Josh have made me so comforted within myself, sung me to sleep when I had insomnia.. and knowing so many people who can find comfort within Tyler’s lyrics, it’s so nice knowing I’m not alone. And i promise, to whoever is still reading, it will get better. I promise, please know that you are worth so much. Stay safe everyone |-/

I've only ever felt "severely sad" which I'm sure isn't even half of what you guys go through but goddamn, I love this band and all the music they've made. i listened this song in 2016 or 2017 (when i was in high school, depressed and the only thing mattered for me was tøp) for the first time in my life. i haven’t been here for a very long time and i can still feel the calmness and pure joy this song gave me when i was 17. unfortunately my anxiety and depressipn is worse now, but i’m surviving anyways

I can actually find a similar feeling when I read the essays and aphorism of Simone Weil, a French philosopher from the 1930s. She's a hard pill to swallow and not for the faint of heart, but no less a beautiful soul.

reminds me of my 12-13 year old self. although she had her struggles, she was charismatic, interesting, passionate, loving, but carried lots of pain. this song could fix it all, though. i can vividly remember laying down in the sunlight listening to this. now i just lay in my dark room and have the personality of drywall lol

I’m two and a half years late, but I have a theory about this song. According to Tyler, Ruby was a girl who went to his and Josh’s church and had Down syndrome. I think around the middle of the song, where the instrumental plays right before Tyler says, “tell our dad I’m sorry” that Ruby died, either due to Down syndrome or something else. I think in the song’s “timeline” this is where she dies because, 1: Organs are playing in the background, something that people do play during funerals, and 2: the lyrics afterwards say, “tell our dad I’m sorry,” most likely referring to how they both go to church and refer to God as their Father, and that Tyler wants Ruby, in heaven, to tell God he’s sorry. I have no confirmation on if Ruby actually died or not, and I’m not caught up on the TØP lore at all, (which is probably something I should have researched more before commenting huh) but this is just my theory.

Have you met anyone with down syndrome? I think he's calling her an angel because people with down syndrome tend to be very pure, with an innocent and beautiful friendliness and a very positive and fun outlook on life. I know this is stereotyping, but this is my experience of the people I've known. I think he calls her an angel because of this and that she was 'sent from the clouds' to teach us all that there is a much better way to lead our lives. And when he says "we're all diseased" I believe he's referring to the general population who, for the most part, do not have such an amazing positive attitude towards others, the world and life itself. That's my take on it anyway.

That’s an interesting theory. But Down Syndrome is not fatal. :) Your theory could be true still yet if she were have died of something else. But I personally think that by asking “Ruby” to “tell our dad I’m sorry” he’s asking her to let God know he’s sorry for he has sinned, and cannot say it himself so he asks “Ruby” since she is still “pure” in the eyes of Christianity.

This Ruby lyric video probably has the most views because of the backdrop they chose. And I think that's reason enough tbh. This is such a perfect and relevant image. Not only is the song about an angel in the sky ("won't you tell us of the clouds") but it's literally Ruby.

this song stuck with me for whatever reason when i first heard it at 12. when i was 14 my friend gave me a stuffed animal dog for christmas, telling me it was my new emotional support animal bc i constantly talked about how badly i wanted one. i named him ruby. now im 20, i sleep with ruby in my arms every single night. hes a bit worse for wear but is so full of love. i literally dont leave the house for overnight trips without him. he really did stick with me over all these years; being my emotional support when i really needed it, moving from house to house even when i was just about homeless, and now getting me through college which has been anything but easy. life has its ups and downs and sometimes it really doesnt feel worth living, but the ups are just too good for the downs to take over. keep going. make new friends if your old ones leave. find peace with yourself when you cant find it with anyone else. let yourself scream and cry when you need to and then be kind to yourself and tell everyone you know that you love them. i love you

I listenend to this when i was 13 and then for years on end but somehow i completely lost track of it. Im 19 now and i never wouldve needed this more than now. Its like finding some old photo that just reminds you of so much. I was literally in shock because i can not understand how ive completely forgotten that this exists. I had a friend that committed suicide, I was in the same building an by the time I made it midway through the stairs she plummeted to the ground. She was bleeding out and one of the things she said to me before this occurrence was “even though we’re all sick I may make it to the beautiful lands” And it always reminds me of “we’re all diseased” and “lead me to the promised lands” And although it’s saddening I love her and remember her by this song.

Oh god I’m so sorry

i found a stray dog once and named it after this song. her eyes were gorgeous and it reminded me of this beautiful song. she was malnourished and trembling and i could tell she had been through a lot. i fed her and took her to the shelter hoping to find the owner. they found a microchip in her back and was able to locate the owner. he was extremely grateful to have her back. he said she had been missing for weeks and belonged a few cities north. i was so glad i helped them :)

years ago I would hear this song crying but now is so crazy how times have changed and I'm able to just appreciate, enjoy the song and see how far I've come knowing that things do get better.
