Bro, VVD has been great for two seasons and was flourished at the peak age for a defender. Ruben is very young and far from reaching his potential as a defender. At his age, VVD was playing for Celtic and leaking goals in European competitions. Ruben is straight into the pressure of winning a quadruple. If he keeps improving to his peak age, he will be like Nesta or Baresi! You have already seen the best of VVD, it's a level below Terry, Rio, and Kompany!

as liverpool fan, of course I pick my boy virgil, the leader at the defensive line that influence the team's mentality and passion but remember that dias is very good and quality defender at his age, plus he perform like solid mountain in PREMIER LEAGUE, yes the PREMIER LEAGUE. absolutely crazy, i wish him to continue to perform like this or even better in the upcoming season

Van dijk plays and defends so easily cuz he’s smart and he’s a technical player. Vise versa, terry, vidic tackled as if break opponents’ anckle. Most of all, with him, Mustafi can be a good defender. But Ruben Diaz is unstable in national team, by the way, vvd blocked mbappe etc. and lead Dutch to the UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE FINAL. VVD IS CRAZY

What Separates Dias & VVD is their Playstyle & Both are effective at it. VVD needs another Centre-back who would Tackle for him when he couldn't & then with Physicality he gets the Ball , VVD doesn't go for the Player but waits for an Opportunity to get Ball & in the Meantime defence gets back & Liverpool gets the Possession Back , Marip is an Ideal Centre-back for him . Dias on the other Hand is different , His Positioning is Based on how others are on the Pitch & he Makes a Picture of Opponents Attacks in his Mind & you can often see him Advising teammates to be here & there . Dias likes to Tackle as well & his Tackles are Precised too. For a speedy Player , getting Past against both of them is hard because Dias's Movement is too strong , he makes runs on Balls weight while VVD's an Elephant . His Physicality is a big Plus for him & his Positioning is very good too. Dias imo is more of a Tactical CB & we'll see him on Top Like Ramos untill Pep is there . VVD on the hand will have a hard time keeping himself on the same level because those Injuries are very very Hazardous . Wish them good luck 🥂

Tough one, as a City fan I have a biased preference to Dias. He is more aggressive in defence which I like, while Virgil is calm which is a super quality in stress situation. Dias gives encouragement to the team during play which makes me think he brings the best around others, while Virgil is a solo contributor. I think defence is not only about you but also others around you. So Dias is more complete as an individual and a team player. I wish both play side by side one day 😀
VVD is rock and roll. Ruben is jazz. VVD is more to physical strength. Ruben is more to intellectual. VVD does defending as a professional job that he must do. Ruben does defending as an art. Ruben is way more classy (in and out of the pitch) - and his defend is the cleanest defend in my opinion. Never do it in dirty way, always classy and clean!

Dias is more of a pure tackler and as a defender myself I can say this is the first advantage he has over vvd and the second one is that he is more agile yet very strong. Also he is extremely young. His first season was as good as any of vvd seasons in liverpool and if that doesn’t prove that he’s a a good as vvd or better now then he will definitely reach a higher level than vvd later. He definitely has a higher ceiling than vvd

Still early days for Diaz at 23/24 but even now there is not a lot to split them, maybe VVD is a little calmer but Rubin is a better passer of the ball. Both Brilliant defenders in there own right

Dias is a good defender but still not on the same level as vandijk. Any defender playing alongside vandijk will be able to show their best football because of vandijk's overall quality can translate a massive amounts of positive influence, not just the regular back four but also throughout the team. He is oozing out the best in any team. Vandijk seems to make football look Easy and Simple due to his world class Art of Defending. He had done it and proved it against the best in the world in all competitions ie: Premier League, UEFA Champion League and also international football with Dutch national team. It's hard to see Dias reaching the same level as vandijk if he plays the way he did during Euro 2020 group stage with so many individuals mistakes. For example the game against Germany when he made so many poor judgement during the entire 90min and clumsy fouls too whenever he was defending and marking a player in One on One situation. Playing together with an experience Pepe in the Portuguese team, both of them look vulnerable every time opponents running behind their defense. It happened in all of their group games(vs Hungary, France, Germany). That sums it up for this comparison.

In simple word VVD is physically very strong and technically also, he is a big fella with 7feet tall and all the qualities have that a Centre back deffender need, But i think Diaz is technically much stronger than VVD, those interceptions and sliding tackle you can easily see that how good is he.

Let's not start the comparition, if we compare both in terms of their best season, Van dijk had a much better season. If we look at their abilities, Van dijk is a better Header, much faster and stronger. Ruben dias is a solid CB but to compare him to Van Dijk for just one season is just laughable.
