I've come back to watch this guy's talent on his birthday. He was incredible and so fearless. In every one of those clips, he is the only guy that actually runs in and defends his ground - never hops backwards and hesitates to tackle (like Jones in every clip), he just does it and that's what made him so good. We haven't had a single defender like that since he's left. Defensively and physicality wise, he's the best defender that United have had. Then you had Rio beside him, who was the guy that had the amazing leadership skills. Unbelievable defensive duo!

I was too young to appreciate Vidic Now as a grown man I miss him every week especially when I see who is our current captain at CB :'( Bailey has the passion and bravery or Vidic but he gets injured too much... Vidic was our last real Captain Rooney did well as well but he wasn't captain long enough.

This is one of the best central defenders i have ever seeing ,great tackle ,timing ,goals ,team work and also a team leader especially at the defense

Vidic was the hard man, tackles, headers, more like get in there. VVD is more of a bit technical, don't tackle until absolutely necessary. For that, I would say, compare with ferdinand. For vidic, their playing styles differ

2:34 this moment here showed Vidic's true class. He timed himself perfectly before tackling because he knew if he went in early, the attacker could have easily passed to his teammate. Instead Vidic stalled for a moment to cut off the passing lane. The moment he was sure the attacker was committed to go on goal, Vidic immediately lunged in for the tackle. And all this awareness happens in a few seconds. The guy was an absolute monster. But he was also a genius.

Definitely one of United's goat for defence. No nonsense defender that rarely had a bad game or mistake. Even chipped in with a few goals every season. So helpful to have a defender that scores a few from set pieces. Really miss Vida n Rio's partnership, a really good mix of attributes.. but the one person that probably misses that partnership more is De Gea 😋

he is really under rated,when i saw him go up against messi and other legends he really stayed dominant and his achievements such as premier league trophies shouldnt define him as an individual player.Great in physicality,great in being physical while keeping it clean without injuring anyone or playing dirty,great in interceptions and headers,should be in the top 5 defenders if not top 10 defenders of all time in my opinion

Compare the 2009 stats of Vidic and 2019 stats of Van dijk..VVD isnt even close to him in his defensive ability.B4 you say he had Rio, Vidic has doubled Van dijk stats like interceptions, clearances, less goals conceeded etc.. Van dijk is good at backing away from attackers lol

The Invader a famous defender named maldini once said if i have to make a slide tackle i already made a mistake. Thats why u dont look at stats, if u think stats matter. Mustafi has the best stats in the premier league with blocks tackles and clearances purely because he plays at arsenal. Btw also look at the amount of important goals van dijk scores for liverpool and the threat he always causes at set pieces. Dont even let me start about the passing part. Van dijk is so much more complete and composed

Vidic set the standard for the club there hasn’t been another defender recruited like him since he left We were lucky to have him at Man Utd and the premier league

Iam a United supporter and definitely love vidic although van Dyke from his first season to 2019 was an absolute beast. He probably would not sacrifice his body like vidic did but the man has so much calmness in his play especially when passing. He looks like Rafael Marquez Barcelona days 2003-2006 with those long ass precise passes that Marquez had. Also I remember the couple of times Virgil stopped 2 counters 1 v2 when he was the last man so strategically. I literally only watched Liverpool to see him play. Both are great but Virgil was a beast. Now not so much ever since everyone English gk injured him

His slide tackles were something different, he is the best defender to ever touch a ball

@@muhammadhassaan2840 nah, him individually couldnt perform on the same level, mostly due to the loss of mobility. Hence these loads of tackles in this vid.. thats his last two years, he had to make many tackles because he couldnt get there on feet quick enough
